Glad they changed the name back in reruns

I love this show and I have been watching it on Pluto TV, Antenna TV and Tubi TV. The main focus was always Ted and Nancy and so I guess it made sense to just move forward wiith just them and to bring something else to it by having the characters relocate. To me as long as it were the two of them, I could have cared less where they were. They were so cute together. Watching the episodes again I think of how sad it was that the show ended so abruptly but what was even sadder was Ted's illness and passing. He was a great actor.

Two of the biggest mistakes they made with this: 1. Changing the title and 2. getting rid of Henry and Muriel's two GORGEOUS daughters! No wonder this was it for the show.

Agreed. I prefer seasons 3 and 4. Just perfectly up tempo.

Yeah, technically it was a spinoff. Deborah Van Valkenburgh left toward the end of the fifth year and Lydia Cornell a few episodes later at the end of the season. They had Henry retire from Cosmic Cow and sell the apartment house and move to a new location with Muriel and Andrew, where he bought 49% share in a newspaper. They completed one season (1985-1986), and were about to film another season, but Ted Knight passed away in August 1986.

After the final season, they changed the title back to , Too Close For Comfort for reruns.

It's the same show with a new title, the way "The Connors" is just a retool of "Roseanne" or the way "Ellen" was retitled from "These Friends of Mine".

it made no sense to change the title that far into the show, and calling it by the lead actor name made no sense either...

@phillydisco still goofy..why would you buy a show and not the title? it be like if they suddenly called cheers the ted danson show... or the office the Ed helms show ! this was back when u had tv guide on paper.. the title was essential..

@@arlichar11 The sense I got was that since Too Close For Comfort was very successful in first-run syndication, a mutual decision was made between Ted Knight and Metromedia Producers Corp. to rename the show after Knight when the premise was revamped for the 1986 season. Yes, Knight had a previous 1978 series called "The Ted Knight Show", but that was short-lived. I think Knight wanted to finally have his eponymous show title on a *hit* show, and here was his chance. It's unfortunate that the cancer got him too soon.

@@VaultMasterDBT i think that was the main reason new premise and feel to the show, and id agree with you! yeah he was great , ive been binge watching it lately, cause i recall it as kid, but didnt see often , and now im realizing it was very good show actually...
