You mean the age of the guitar?how it sounds because it dried with age?im not being funny ive never heard it called that,if thats what you’re referring to…
No words...the loss of Tony Rice is just too much.
“I can try to.” Then proceeds to absolutely crush it! Genius
Tony has had a beautiful 2003 black on black Mustang Cobra vert for years. and while I grew up listening to his music and cherish it. Ill never forget the sound his cobra made as the supercharger would whine as he drove past our house just a few doors down from his house...my dad and I would just look at each other back then smile and say..."there goes Tony again." He will truly be missed...condolences to his wife Pam and the rest of the Rice family!

That’s awesome you knew him man.how cool.huge respect to him👊
You know, listening to the interview, what jumps out at me is that not only is he technically highly proficient, and passionate about his work, but also has a deep and insightful intellect about the instrument and about music as an art form. Absolutely brilliant musician and human being.
He was one of the greatest musicians I ever heard play. Not just guitarists, but ALL musicians.

R.I.P. Tony, sorely missed this side of the pond 🇬🇧🙏🇬🇧
He was one of those guitarists that had no wasted movement in his fret hand (or pick hand for that matter). That’s one of the subtle signs of someone who has mastered their craft. RIP

You are right. I had the pleasure of listening and watching both masters, Tony and Norman Blake together at a small venue in St Petersberg, Fl in the mid- '90s. Rice's right-hand movement was primarily at the wrist while Blakes was somewhat more fluid from the elbow. Watch the New River Train video of them playing together to see the two styles.

Tony was one of the finest to ever pick up a guitar. We miss him sorely
First time hearing him play. No wonder I've read such accolades. Brilliant.
Massively influential. You will be missed. RIP Great One
I had the honor of performing at a few events Tony was billed at. I was on a secondary stage somewhere, but I always went and listened to him at every opportunity. He was the very best PERIOD.. I actually talked to him a few times, and he was a class act all the way around.
A true master of musical arts. Rest in peace. Your music has seen me through some hard times. You've made me want to pick my guitar up, made me want to put it down, and made me want to break it. But you'll always be a friend.

These guitarists you've all mentioned were/ are quite simply brilliant at what THEY DO, to compare them...well...? Just my thoughts for what it's worth 😊😊😊
This was my first time ever hearing or seeing this man play...WHY?? There's something very wrong with the world when talent like this isn't a household name. At least not a household name to me. You can't hide imperfections playing acoustically, there's no Distortion or gain, just your fingers and the strings. This man sounds like he was born with an acoustic in his hands. Blown away. What a beautiful song.

Love this comment because it makes me realize the different realities we all live in. Tony's been a "household name" in houses around me for 3 decades and i thought I was late to the game. Still remember the first time I heard his break in Key Signator with DGQ (kzread.info/dash/bejne/omigw9CtqZiycdo.html) Great to hear someone just discovering him, and the treasure trove of material they have to immerse themselves in.

Unreal. No one has the right hand Tony has. It's the pinnacle of right-hand technique. The left hand is top-level too, but that right hand. Wow.
To have been young and alive when you were in your prime as a master musician… what a privilege that was. Loved your music, your approach, your demeanor, your seriousness towards the music but not yourself. Never forgotten Tony Rice!!!
Other worldly beautiful. RIP Mr. Rice.
Wow, look how smoothly he transitions between chords. Absolute master player.
technical perfection, without compromising the "soul " of the tune.. what an exceptional musician he was...

Such a clean play. Tony really was a legend. Rest In Peace good sir.
I saw him do this at Bass Hall in Fort Worth a number years ago. After a break with his group he came out by himself and did this. You could hear a pin drop. Mesmerizing.

Tony and Jerry meet again. Incredible musician who will be missed.
This guy is the Doc Brown of guitar . Simply amazing that someone’s brain can comprehend this much guitar knowledge and put it to use with rhythm and picking and the finger work up and down the neck
Billy Strings is coming up right behind Tony. I miss him greatly. His contribution to bluegrass was nothing short of genius. I always thought that a prodigy like Tony only occured once in a lifetime. I was pleasantly please when Billy came along.😊
RIP dear Sir. You will be sorely missed and this is exactly why. No one could play that as you did. See you on the other side.

I'm crying at our collective loss. Rest in peace Tony. Thank you for all the amazing memories.
This is so freaking good! TONE TONE & MORE TONE!
His foundation may have been bluegrass, but his physical technique, musical variations and tuneful voice are far beyond simple categorizing. Is it classical. Elements of jazz as he winds in and out of simple music as he wishes to his audiences enjoyment? It's just mastery.

Not gonna lie, i teared up while i was watching this video. I have been playing guitar for 13 years and i identify with bluegrass and country more than i do with any other genre. Tony Rice’s 1996 album “Tony Rice Sings Gordon Lightfoot” is the first bluegrass album i ever listened to and it changed my life and also helped to shape the musician that i am today. I recently bought Tony’s 2000 album “Unit of Measure” and it is beautiful.

He is the master of acoustic guitar , bluegrass and bluejazz lol ( listen to backwaters album) and will always be … you know what makes him so good and unique? The way he find space to do silences at the right time between all this fast notes … everything about his playing is just so good with his own particular sound . There’s other good players but i don’t care about some who are just fast , the perfect example of art and to be a master of his craft tony was the perfect example… not to forget about his awesome voice too and his respect for his musicians . Rip Tony Rice
