Tony Hadley reveals his massive Live Aid regret: "It was a huge mistake"
#TonyHadley chats to Gold's David Andrews about #SpandauBallet and his amazing career!
Tony Hadley had one of the most distinctive voices of the 1980s.
As lead singer of Spandau Ballet, Tony Hadley ruled the charts around the world with hits like 'True', 'Through the Barricades', and the brilliantly-titled (if you ask us) 'Gold'.
However, Tony revealed to Gold that he wasn't actually that impressed with perhaps their biggest ever hit 'True', and didn't think it would do that well.
Tony will be going out on tour this December with fellow synthpop legends Culture Club and Heaven 17.

Having a distinct voice is instant recognition.
I met Tony in the 80s . I am a joiner and went to look at a job in his house . He and his wife were nice and normal…
Can vouch that this bloke is proper down to earth and sound no ego whatsoever. Good to see him looking well

Me neither, but if I stick True on, I'm instantly transported back to 1983, specifically to an amusement arcade I used to hang out in which would have the radio on.
Very unique singing voice, qualified singer, a pure talent...... so very chuffed for the influence of relatives putting me in his direction 🎵🎶🎼
The band were in Maestro's in Glasgow a few days, or maybe the night that they reached number one with "True". Except Tony Hadley, who, we were told, was back in the hotel, "taking care of his voice". So he ain't lying on that count. Must have took a lot of willpower that. He missed a great "stay behind". The manager of the club was on holiday and his assistant was, shall we say, a bit more lax about things. The other band members were all sound, paid for their drinks, didn't act like prima donnas, no minders or nothing like that. Good luck to them.
"Through the barricades " is just breathtakingly beautiful...my favourite Tony is a superb vocalist... Spandau had some amazing hits ...
Where does he actually say “Live aid gig was a huge mistake “ ?.. Total click bait thumbnail !. Tony comes across really well though . 👍

No, it says his massive live aid regret - it doesn't technically say it was a mistake doing live aid. He said the mistake was not doing 'Gold', which he says as the last sentence. EDIT: I've now seen a different thumbnail, and it does have a different statement on it, which is misleading.

Was not a fan of Spandau Ballet back then, but, they kicked arse. However, anyone who wasn't Queen had no chance at Live Aid, they just wandered onto the stage and stole the show. Don't get me wrong most of the acts kicked arse but Queen just owned that day.😉

@@herseemBecause there wasn‘t democracy in the band. Tony had been solo for almost twenty years (because the Kemps started a film career and left the others unemployed). In Spandau it was always Gary who determined everything. That continued after the reunion in 2009.
