Live Aid - Rare Backstage Impressions (13th July, 1985)

Музыка

35 years ago today, the greatest concert of all time took place. This rare footage shows absolutely fascinating, never-seen-before insights into the backstage preparations and activities before, during and after the show. It features many of the world’s most renowned music artists rubbing shoulders and uniquely captures the excitement of the day.
Live Aid was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for the Ethiopian famine disaster. Broadcast across the world via one of the largest satellite link-ups of all time, the concerts were seen by around 40% of the global population.

I was two weeks away from my 18th birthday. I stayed home all day and got up early not to miss a second. Watched entire show. One of the best and most memorable days of my life. I'm now two weeks away from turning 53. Lol I just stumbled upon this sitting at a bus stop killing time. Anything from this day is always good to watch and can cheer up my worst day or moods. God bless...

"It's 12 noon in London, 7am in Philadelphia, and around the world it's time for Live Aid". Shortly after this, the guards played and then Status Quo lit the fuse. As an 11 year old kid, I cried watching a stadium of people jump to Rockin' All Over the World on the grandparent's rented TV. Music is a pretty good reason for living.

Very poignant. You can sense the mixed feelings from Quo & Geldof - excitement tinged with a sense of anti-climax. They'd been on stage for one of the greatest shows ever and yet it all was so brief for them. They just wanted to go back on stage and play.

I watched the Live Aid concert, from my house in a suburb of Philadelphia, where the American half of Live Aid was being held. The only bad part of that great day, was my grandmother (who had just come to live with me & my parents) insisting she wanted to make potato salad, and making me miss part of the concert, because I had to run from store to store looking specifically for "red potatoes", that she just had to have. I was so angry! Lol

It’s now 2022, and with the amount of crap going on in the world today, we could sure use another moment like this one. God bless all of these artists for helping such a great cause and bringing our global family together to smile and create such a remarkable moment in rock and roll history.

This is so lovely to see. Would be wonderful to get ALL the footage together from all the 16mm cameras and all the still and make one big blu ray of the whole day at wembley. with as much in sequence time wise as possible.

I'll never forget that day. I watched at home in Amsterdam. Just turned 18, parents were away for the weekend, so had the house and TV for myself to watch (and tape!) all of it. Magical memories.

Me too! Just turned 18 and watched at home in Duivendrecht, just a few meters away from Amsterdam. My parents were working Saturday in the barbershop, so I was alone too. Wish we could have seen it together, that would have been great fun!

I didn't know the great Nils Lofgren was there on the day. Nice of Elton to go and chat with him. Two genuine stars together.

The most iconic bit is Elton John talking with Nils Lofgren, who was probably wandering around unnoticed, but in reality probably one of the real unsung heroes of rock (and much more).
