Tony Fisher's Replica Rubik's Cube Prototype (with history intro)
Buy speed Rubik's Cubes here- tonyfisherpuzzles.net/PuzzleSh...
I guess this is more of a puzzle transformation than a true replica since it uses a Rubik's Cube as the core instead of a custom built spider like Erno's original. It's a little too brown and shiny because the wood dyes and varnishes I used weren't quite right to achieve the desired finish.

I think the rubiks brand should actually put the 3x3 prototype into production as a sort of tribute on Erno Rubik on his birthday or smth.
I'm sure you are aware, but you could make a killing if you sold these Tony. A very interesting piece.

BeenieBomb I have certainly thought about that. It wouldn't break any patents since it has expired. Using the name "Rubik's Cube" would be against their trade mark so I would have to sell it as "Magic Cube". The last issue would be copyright of the outer appearance. Technically I would be violating that but then so does every single 3x3x3 since Rubik's and I find that ridiculous even though I am strongly against genuine KO puzzles.

Tony Fisher That is true... Maybe if you made one that had colored tiles and a new core mechanism (maybe made out of wood)? I would certainly buy it if it wasn't too pricey; this looks amazing!

Call it "THE CAVEMAN CUBE!!!" I would love one! Any n x n x n wooden cube! Dude, picture it: it's sanded down, (or not,) just looks like it was made poorly in 7th grade wood shop! I know wood isn't the prefered material for cubers, (or manufacturers) but the inside mechanisms can be whatevere as long as the outside is wood and it turns I think it would be very pleasing aesthetically, (and you can BET every collector will buy one just to complete their collection if for no other reason!)
It's insane that erno still alive. A living legend 😤😤😤
Great video!
The cube is really smooth wow
cool project
Excelente
I agree
Planning to sell any more of them?
I'm curious what the dimensions of the old cube were?
Any chance on a tutorial?
Wow
Would love a replica of this. Shame they cleaned up the original, should’ve kept it as it was, or maybe got help from the man himself to restore it to how he originally had it.
Ummmm how do you solve it?
i want to see this with colors
Amongst them
Can it corner cut

No.
Bro I was just at the liberty science center
for some reason the rubiks brand turning sucks compared to that one

This proves the nonsense people say about Rubik's brand. My cube uses a Rubik's brand as the core so movement is identical. Plus my earlier Rubik's brand cubes were superb. Far better than the flimsy speedcubes of today.

Hi Tony, today I solved my first ever Rubik's Cube. I got into your videos and puzzles after watching you create your petaminx ball. I would really enjoy seeing some longer videos from you especially of you making some of your puzzles. I understand if you don't want to do that as it takes a long time but I really enjoy relaxing with a cup of tea and watching you craft these things, it's really enjoyable. Also, they trigger a slight ASMR tingling feeling for me since you have such a unique voice, ASMR is like the feeling that some people get when they hear certain sounds or when they get a massage or hear someone with an accent and it relaxes them, it's hard to explain without coming across as creepy. Anyway, I think a lot of other people would enjoy seeing you craft this stuff too, not as a tutorial but just showing what you do. Have a nice day and thanks for the videos!
Looks nice! It was really cool to see the real thing up close, at the grand opening.
Great work Tony
Great job Mr. Fisher
Awesome!
that is so cool man
Nice Job!
That's cool!
Hey Tony, I'd love to see the construction and/or some information on the original core as I'm attempting to build my own prototype replica but I am having trouble finding info on how the original core was constructed

Fantastic replic Tony! Is the whole is made of wood or just tailes are wooden and plastic mechanism on the basis of ordinary dice?
It's still too neat.
Cool
cool
I wonder what the core was like in the original proto? Maybe a wooden core?
Very nice. A wooden one with colours would be cool. Not stickers though. Not sure what, but not stickers haha.

There is one though it has semi transparent stickers on 6 sides. It's the 30th Anniversary Rubik's Cube. Google it.

Tony Fisher Yeah, that's a cool one, but i like the look of this one with the corners filed down. I suppose one could buy the 30th Anniversary Rubik's Cube and file them down.

cwuzii Yes I think they could have made it more like the original. They could even use the direction of the wood grain to make a kind of Shepard's Cube ( www.twistypuzzles.com/cgi-bin/puzzle.cgi?pkey=226 ) so it would still be solvable.
Did the 2×2 work? Also, has anyone made a replica of Nichols' Cube?
No entiendo nada de lo que dices pero me encantan tus puzzles😁
Hey Tony, are you selling these? If not, do you know of anyplace that does? I'd love to have this as a display piece!

No. I will go if it comes to the UK though.
I thought that I read somewhere once that the original was held together by magnets? Or was that just an earlier prototype or not true at all?
@TonyFisherPuzzles

I think that was the 2x2x2.
put stickers on it with the original color scheme i would love to have a solvable modern replica of the thing that started all cubing
