Heres the thing. If the Anime didn't have the scene with Fitz explaining her relationship with Rudeus (season 1 episode 23) and the very first scene with Fitz in episode 0, was Sylphie waking up, walking into Ariels bedroom and saying good morning to "Fitz" (as done in the Light Novel), then the very first encounter Anime-onlys would have with Fitz is Fitz being in the same room at the same time with Sylphie. They'd see Sylphie talking to Fitz. So they'd think "Why is Sylphys hair white. What is this Fitz's relation to her? Could he be her brother? They look similar, and sound similar. They could be related." and then the confusion would play out just like the Light Novel. The Anime would follow the LN and have scenes from Sylphies perspective, looking at Rudeus and "Fitz" interact with each other from afar. It would continuously reinforce the idea that these are two separate characters, even if they look and sound similar.

I actually think it was kind of smart that they let us in on sylphie early, because since we ALL know they're not covering sylphie's PoV side story directly. I think what they're going for is cluing us in early so we have context and they'll give us visual and audio cues that will let us in on what she's thinking as the scenes are happening. For example, when they first meet they let us see slightly through the sunglasses and from her eyes we can tell what she's feeling in that moment even though rudeus can't from his PoV

As a light novel reader and MT fan, I really appreciate these types of videos! They help me connect the differences between the anime and LN. ありがとう!

Any seemingly skipped context could always appear later down the line as a flashback, specially the ones that seem very important.

I definitely hope it will. There were bunch of skipped side characters POVs all over the season 1, but maybe this time they will do Sylphie's POV dedicated episode with recap of the events starting from Rudy's arrival. Since book had something similar in a sense, dedicated chapter for it.

This episode looked great, the university especially, a lot more magical then what I imagined. There was a lot of cut dialogue but nothing of great importance or unexpected. The magic resistant brick and barrier would've been a nice bit of worldbuilding, as well as showing Rudy's strength, but once again it's not a big deal. Overall it was a very good episode and I'm excited to see how they'll adapt the rest.

From episode 0 we know Sylphy = Fitz so I guess the anime just didn't bother to hide the identity thing. It's difficult to hide that with voice acting. We can just have a look at the cast list in the endings and hmmmmmmm this mysterious new character white hair elf guy for whatever reason has the same VA as the other elf girl that is missing in the anime I wonder what is going on hmmmmmmmmm Anyways I like the ending song that actually focuses on Rudy and Sylphy in this relationship. It's gonna be fun for Rudy to think he fell for a man when we actually know who this "man" actually is.

I love watching these vids as an anime only, helps me know any cut content that I've missed out on

Thank for this video. I really enjoy these break downs. I do agree that I was I could have seen the classroom scene played out more like how it did in the novel. Also I wish we could have seen the anxiousness from Rudy about to be taken away. It would have been a nice contrast to what happened in the first season.

It wasn’t until I started to read the LN that I realized quite how deep and detailed this series gets. Stuff like his research in the library and all these world building things that go in depth like the magic resistant bricks, Silent’s contributions to the school, etc made it clear to me just how much information had be left out of the anime. I really appreciate and enjoy the LN quite a lot and I look forward to going back to read the first 7 books that I only watch the anime for.

I have a feeling that Silphy might be closer than Rudeus thinks. More like a surprise waiting to happen later on in the season.

Is "Miss Silent" actually Nanahoshi? We saw a glimpse of her last episode, although I didn't see her mask. Would Rudy immediately recognize her as being from Japan (and being with Orsted) the second he heard her name? Seems they would both recognize each other immediately since they met once before.

Have you read the Roxy manga? I ask because there are a couple of interesting things you mention in this video that are addressed more in detail in that (mainly the issue of the stolen books and more information about Jenius)

Fitz's identity wasn't really a surprise in the light novel either, considering that "he" was on the cover, and you'd have to be as unobservant as Rudeus to not realize that's Sylphy.

The thing is, 95% of people were immediately like "yeah that's Sylphie isn't it" but then they spring the chapter Sylphiette 1 on you in volume 8 done by her perspective that has her saying good morning to Fitz, then Fitz says good morning back, then she describes Fitz as her friend and has a full on conversation with Fitz, then states that Fitz will stay in the room until the princess wakes up while Sylphie goes out running. Later in the chapter when talking to Ariel she talks about "a shop that Fitz told her about" so as the reader you're like "...wait what?" because this chapter really stands out as trying to make them seem like different people so you don't really know if they're trying to pull a fast one or not. I swear at one point I thought Fitz was like a split personality situation lol

The Visuals are in "anime artstyle" thus the subtle realistic physical features that had changed through age can't be really reflected. Also everybody else in the Academy already mentioned Fitz is a dude, they call her "Mister" Silent Fitz. So Rudeus already had a preconceived notion Fitz is a dude even before meeting her. Add the context of Slyphie actually is also playing herself as a dude. Which is successful enough to full Spies and nobles of the Asura Kingdom. And of Course the Shades, which conceals a large portion of her face.

Commenting just to help the video as was pretty good, and as others said, on anime is just harder to keep this secret, and from another cut content video, like the novel seems to go out of their way to try to have Sylphie and fitz be a different person (or persona if you know they are supposed to be sylph) and with Voice and not having her perspective adapted I think the reveal is fine and they should only address the reason why she doesnt reveal to Rudy (i assumed will be addressed and probably just has to be with her keeping the secret as promised to the princess) Also from the skipped content I am surprised you dont mention Sylphie already imagining getting married to Rudy

Thanks for this video. I loved this episode and thought the opening and closing were both beautiful. My only disappointment was the end. I was expecting Master Fits to say "it's a secret" but instead, Fitz says "I won't tell"...lol.

I don't think he's complaining, he's just doing cut content now. You can't only talk about the anime after you've read the novels. He can't speculate because he knows where the story is going and just saying "the episode was great" isn't exactly interesting content.

Like yes he is speculating that is why when he comes up with stuff like "they should have kept the mystery element". Then he should also ask how could they pull that off. Since basically the Mystery worls in the visual novels since we Don't have Fitz visuals in novel evrytime he is in it.and we can't hear Fitz talk. Also the LN already had a Fitz design that is very much like Slyphie so the anime can't really alter that look to make Fitz more not so like Sylphie.

The web novel never had fitz as a character so I bet they’re gonna merge some stuff between that and it’s still fine as long as Rudy doesn’t know who Sylfie is

The mystery will be hard to pull on a visual medium even like the manga. And double that with the anime since Sylphie and Fitz would obviously be voiced by the same person, people can confirm it via seeing the cast. It worked in the novel since the context can make things very uncertain and since the picture of Fitz isn't shove in the people's faces page after page. The readers won't really have a strong sense of visual look into Fitz which aides in the novel being able to keep the mystery. It is also not helping that the LN Fitz design still looks like Sylphie and the anime can't really change toi much of that design since LN fans would go mad if ever Bind changed up the design

Absolutely. And as someone who read books 8 and 9 right AFTER catching up to the anime up to a couple episodes ago, I found it no less enjoyable and entertaining despite already knowing Fitz was Sylphie. In fact I even found it humorous as the writing clearly wanted to make me believe I didn’t know by being cryptic. But it was so well written that it was simply entertaining.

Interesting. Considering the amount of information they had to make decision on with respect to the limits of a anime adaptation, I think they are doing pretty decent adaptation work. I love good infodump like anyone, but they are hard to include in ~25 min episodes.

wow. its sad. while i was watching the episode i enjoyed it as much as any episode. but now after listening to you talking about the missing parts, its truly sad how they decide to omit things with so much gravity and meaning. they did the same thing in the first season, (the only part i know of) im talking about the inner monologue eris had about the letter she left rudeus.

Highly recommend you read from the beginning. So much has been cut from the anime that reading from where the anime is currently at would leave you confused.

yeah its a secret but its impossible to make it a secret when you can SEE it. what are they gunna do put a bag over fitz's head? i do wish they coulda brainstormed on how to somewhat make an homage to mysterious fitz until you see rudy's wand or you see a slip of his wand on fitz in the library to pay respect to LN readers.

I think Sylphi perspective will comes in other episode

As an anime only, I understood that Mushoku Tensei anime is about following and observing Rudeus. This made this "slow" S2 start very likeable to me and content wise I like it just as much as S1. But I did start noticing that so many PoVs like Eris, Sara, Fitz are getting skipped. S1P2 was so strong due to also the Roxy episode so it definitely feels off that Eris and Sara povs were skipped. Lot of people are unreasonably mad at Eris and Sara actions which could have been prevented with their pov adaptation. Same with Fitz, Luke's dialogue of her crying is too vague. I really wish they could have shown more of Fitz angle

i agree with what you said but for me the worst part of the episode is during the duel cause anime only have no idea how big of a deal how much everyone think that rudy is Op, for nreaking the barrier and completly win against a person that no one could have a chance of wining.

I think I wanted a bit more focus on Rudeus' trauma here. That scene where he was surrounded by girls didn't do enough to convey how batshit scared that poor man is, even if he can take them all down.

I think maybe a really quick flashback to his PTSD could make it clearer to the viewer. It could also be too "on the nose" foe the scene , so I dont know.

idk. besides it being comparable to his prev life bullying. as mentioned by someone im another vid, the context is diff. the instigating context. 2. its dependant on the type of bullies. for those two, probably rudeaus ver. be more suited, being beast, respects physical strenght and baser emotions. can't use tje same technique to tame a horse with a tiger.

Hands down the best episode of S2, and yes, it's pretty much cuz we're now in vol 8, but man, I'm so happy to finally see Fitz interact with Rudeus animated

I'm actually glad that some content was skipped, this season is dragging. There will never be a way to show everything, so the best thing to do is to forward the main story as much as possible. There is good reason to skip some things, and the drive is to put that in context and get people to read the light novels and manga. Nobody reads, and I'm tired of people who don't want to read whining about skipped content. I appreciate the context, but I can't stand the whining. Support the reading of the stories, and tell everyone that if they want to know the whole story to get off their dead asses and read.

So does Rudeus ever grow as a character, how is he still struggling with these issues after, what is he now 17 physically but 35 internally? Emotionally he should be able to navigate these bullying sessions or does this continue?

he does after the academy arc , his trauma lis deep , and eris with her bad communication gave him another and huger trauma , rudeus growth comes after he gets together with silphy and tries to save his mother

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I think having Fitz unraveled as Sylphy is a wise decision on an anime adaptation. Her gestures and voice would be hard for the director to hide her identity.

This makes you appreciate season 1 considering how great they actually were at adapting certain parts (except cutting Eris and Zenith)

@ygtyrell8965 it's a REALLY detailed novel. Alot of it relies on internal narration. Rudy narrates to the audience ALOT in the book. I watched season 1 first then got into the novels. And I loved how much harder the story hit with rudeus narration. It took like 22 hours of reading time just to get to the end of episode 3. They skipped ALOT of context in those first 2-3 episodes.

Because Fitts is Princess Ariel's personal attendant, yes. Pretty sure both Fitts and Luke sleep in rooms next to Ariel's.

This episode was much better than the others, it looked as good as the episodes from the first season. Feels like the production are only taking this season seriously now. About the story, I really can't understand why Sylphie doesn't tell me who she is to Rudeus, I suspect that her reason is stupid and I'll not like. Like for example, she doesn't want her identity as Sylphie discovered because she wants to stay with the princess. And an expectation. I understand why Rudeus knows so little about the world, and his family, but now there's not excuse. She should sit and learn a bit about his family.

Bruh, Rudeus knows more about the world than most Students in that academy like lol. No normal human in that world can Journey from the middle of the Demon Continent back to the Human Continent. Though the anime did not focus on it much and put such scenes to the cutting room. Rudeus was always learning about each place they went and had to live there for like weeks before moving on since he had to be resourceful just to keep Eris safe back then since Even Ruijerd is out of touch about a lot of things because Ruijerd has been isolating himself for decades. Can't really call Rudy "knows very little about the world" when even most Adventurers haven't been able to explore the places Rudy had been too.😂

They are Royal guards for the Princess so they share the same quarters I think or at least they have permission to enter there as they please.

i know how it happened. i just cant fathom why.....pretty much the information elise had was (zenith is on the beggaritto continent) theres a line in rudys internal monolouges when hes just vewnting. something like (elise said zenith is on the begarrito continent and paul and roxy went to get her. shes probably a care free adventurer by now) then they took the line and gave it to elise. but had her state it as a fact instead of rudy trying to cheer himself up

I am mostly satisfied with the animation in this episode, its just the fight scene could have been choreographed better with rudy thinking along the way of fight like season 1. His inner monologues are less in this season.

Its not really a secret about sylphy lol. It's made blatantly clear in the novels almost as sokn ss "fitz" is introduced lol. Although i do hate theu cut the conclusion to the sarah situation. I get it has almost no connection to thr story later outside of a brief lster cameo. But still would kove have to see the conclusion shown.

I am very disappointed by animation in 1st cour. Some scenes lacked even in-between animation. I hope it improves in cour 2

I would like to know what the anime would have been like if they tried to hide Sylph's identity. I think I would have like the mystery but with the internet I don't think it would last long Side not I love how they explained why you cannot cast magic directly into a person. I still think there are some flaws but I love the attempt (the flaw being the magic of the other person)

You can visually see Fits this time and hear her talk in every bit she will be on screen. Plus you can just check casting list will definitely notice Sylphie has the same VA as Fitz. The novel kept the mystery successfully for so long because the novel don't have those.

These vids really highlight how hard LN adaptations are, the animation has been a lot better since the episode 3 drama

Again, I'm glad your not the director. I've read the novels and thought the cuts here were perfect. This is a show-don't-tell adaptation, which is the correct choice. I don't want or need a bunch of switching narrators messing up the pacing. Episode 0 was a mistake in my opinion because it was not from Rudy's perspective. I think you probably would have been happier as an anime-only who reads the novel after the anime is complete. Visually, this was by far the best episode this season and was up to Cour 2 standards at least. They even used the same BGM during Rudy's days as a tutor.

Wish they showed george, wonder why they only aninatrd jenius, i also though george was a king class wind mage whixh is why he has a hair piece

Not stating oh I know your dad and grandfather wouldn’t add that much time, and would have opened their story up for the future instead of brushing pass them suggesting that they will play smaller roles in the anime overall. 😢😢

I did not like that they just hand waved Elinalise‘s curse in a blink and you miss it, off hand remark.

They cut the part when Rudeus calls Luke "Skywalker", the scene is ruined.

Im anime only but do they explain why Sylphy didn't tell Rudy who she is ? it totally makes sense why Rudy didn't recognise her but her to not tell him .... just seems like drama for just the drama

Do keep in mind that the princess has bodyguards for a reason. Remember, she's effectively fleeing in the face of multiple assassination attempts. Sylphie doesn't want to involve him in the politics involved, and after seeing Elinaleese, figures he's moved on anyway, so introducing herself to him would cause more drama than keeping quiet.

Silent fitz is not so silent. Also can't Rudeou sense auras, how could he not know that is Sylphie after getting so close to her. At the very least, not being able to tell that she's a female, is so unbelievable. I know It's this running gag in anime, but still lol(it always involves the most feminine woman possible too, like come on, smell the peaches).

no he can not. Rudeus has not seen her in almost 10 years. She is wearing glasses and has a diffrent haircolour. Not to mention everyone refers to her as he (Fitz). I don't think it is unrealistic

Wait a second, there are auras in this world that can be sensed(battle auras, as well as general auras that signify someone's presence, as well as a basic danger sense). However there may not be super personalized auras I guess, the series hasn't indicated if that's a thing.

@@zoltorortegus6259 Sensing auras might be something only swordsmen can do. And while Rudy can use a sword to a degree he doesn't seem to have that skill.

That's how the business work, anime is just a promotion for light novel.

One of the best part's of Mushoku tensei were the immersive unique opening's every episode, I think the worst thing were missing this season is going to be those openings, that's where the biggest drop has been, getting a standardized opening is a catastrophe. I just went back and watched the openings of season 1 episode 6, season 2 episode 1 and season 2 episode 5. And yeah this is a legit catastrophe.

Bind has been putting off extra work for those episode. There is a very good reason why that is not a common practice in anime since it is highly not cost efficient. Animating those scenes is additional work they need to finish before a deadline. It is kinda a spoiled bratty thing to complain when they don't have "extra" to give us this time. Just saying if that is practical thing production wise, then every anime should have been giving us those to begin with.

​@@Snzn18 I think everyone is well aware it's cheaper and easier to add an OP, it was nice that they were going above and beyond, now they aren't and it isn't "spoiled bratish" to note that, that's like saying everyone that has ever reviewed a show poorly that has a noticeable drop in quality is a spoiled brat because the company needs to save money.

Did Pursena and Linia come off as much softer than they felt in the novels to anyone else? These girls are badasses but they felt much less so in the anime.

Squeezing these volumes into 20-ish episodes, they will be skipping so much content, painful to the think that’s the content that misses on the world building . At this point they should know it’s quality content go for the quality story telling
