Nice video, as usual from you. The mic is pretty good for the low price. The USB mode is really very low-pitched. Otherwise, like I said above, I think it's okay. Very well presented, thanks for this video. 👍👍

I was thinking of the SL40 while you were talking. I have a couple of those that I use. For the price I will go for the Fduce

The lack of latency free monitoring is a huge oversight

I did a whole video about capsule placement and sliding the windscreen off a bit. Improves any mic instantly. Great video. I like the look of this mic better than the FDUCE.

i agree with you on this one, Tonor Sent me one of these and i found it to sound nice on xlr as long as you're not too close to it.. On USB it sounds super dark which some people might like but mine seemed to have latency free monitoring. that is interesting. when i remove the windscreen mine is way different, it's just a metal grate and has no plastic on the end and the casule seems to be recessed more like a sm7b

Discovered latency free monitoring does work, but it’s got to be plugged into a port with enough power apparently. Weird that we each got slightly different builds

Pickled Peanutses. Really decent sounding mic for the $$. I don't recall laughing this much on any of your other videos, this is quality edutainment. The baiting through the entire video... amazing. USB sounded kinda assy at first, but then as you went through, it kind of grew on me. The Nuprin capsule!

It's the Fifine 688 windscreen and guts/ Fduce Sl40 capsule and the yoke mount cut in half/ it looks kinda look the Maono 200pdx and fifine 688 minus the shock mount lol. It's almost like Fifine Maono and Fduce had a kid called Tonor TD510 The brass ring might be original though. Regardless I still really like the look, especially as a 49er KZreadr I have mostly red and black in my picture, that touch of Gold might be 🤌

I decided to go with the Fifine k669D over the Tonor, not just the price but the build and look of the fifine ultimately won it over for me vs the gold ring and usb head phone port. Keep doing your thing Bark Oooo yeah.... plus I already got a Fduce

Looks are just about perfect for the 7b-alike crowd, XLR mode sounds good enough, lots of issues would be fixed if they'd set back the capsule to its proper place, don't like the USB mode, too bad about the headphone jack. Not good enough for serious content producing yet IMO but they sure are making great strides and a v2 might fix all its issues.

My mic is finally here but i did have to fix the yoke i literally had to turn it in a way that it actually stands stable on my rode + boom arm. Im glad i can finally retire my yeti though when i make gaming videos and stream

@@ObscureMics I love it especially after I changed the knob on the yoke and put the sm7b windscreen on it for the plosive but I do have to get the bigger windscreen as my plosive can be really bad

The tonor is better as far as build quality goes...I personally like the sound of it more as well in XLR mode....but not USB mode....which I rarely use usb mics, so I would go with the tonor. If USB is your jam, id go with the k688 as it sounds the same as XLR, whereas the Tonor in USB mode is much darker than in XLR mode.

I'm looking for mics for podcasting. I was thinking about TD-510($35), SL40($40) K669D ($40), PD100 ($50) and K688($65). I will use 2 mics so I think about some audio interface. What would you choose?

I'm a voice over artist, and I prefer to be using USB for my record cuz still planning to get XLR. I've been using Samson Q2U microphone which is doing a great job. I just need one more and I need something new. Are you sure that I will not regret it if I get Tonor?

Personally, if you have the q2u....i wouldnt get the tonor, as it is not an upgrade in my opinion

There are many better mics available. Do you need USB connectivity? If not, at the same price point the Neat Worker Bee II is far superior.

@@stockmagician7683 Great question. The choice between condenser and dynamic depends on your recording environment and your needs. For instance, I don't have a well treated space for my podcast, but I interview people with little to no experience speaking on microphones, so put them on the Worker Bee II because they tend to move around a bit and not speak directly into the mic. Since it's more sensitive and less directional they don't modulate in and out significantly. Meanwhile, since I practice speaking into a microphone, I use a dynamic mic like my Electro-Voice RE320, Shure Super 55 Deluxe, SM57, or even the $20 Behringer XM8500. If I had a controlled, treated space I'd probably use a condenser like the Neat King Bee II. I wasn't impressed with the Tonor, so I wouldn't recommend it. If you are concerned about background noise leaking in, then speaking into a dynamic mic within a fist's distance would probably serve you best. Bark mentioned the Fifine K669, and I would second that recommendation. The Donner P-08 is also a great choice that gives tremendous value at under 50 bucks. If I had to choose a single dynamic at or around 100 bucks I'd probably stick with my first mic, the Shure SM57 with a $20 foam filter and call it a day. I've tried tons of mics and that mic is hard to beat.

@milesian1 Ouch, I'm gonna be streaming eventually, and to have to speak to the mic within a fist's distance sounds like a bit of a pain tbh. Is there a good condenser mic between 50 and a 100 bucks that would give you quality radio like audio?

I see on Amazon TD510+ does it mean they corrected that headphone monitoring?

Hey bud, any budget DARK dynamics lower than 20db self noise? Right now. cdm1 is cool but too bright . I like the CAD super-D... But it's not quiet enough for general voiceovers like audiobooks, without music beds.

@@ObscureMics my bad. I know dynamics are measured by sound to noise (floor noise.) Sm7b is around 79 stnr = a theoretical 14-20 DB depending on the preamp quality + amplitude. Neodymium microphones require 20-40 less DB, making them much quieter. Electrovoice re27n, shure Beta series, many high-priced German and Austrian dynamics, are great, but expensive usually. Julian Krause did a thing on it and there's a calculator floating around. I know the beta series microphones are not that expensive. I just wish one of these canister, DARK, broadcast-style mics used neodymium capsules and cost less than 150

For a $59 USB mic, it doesn't sound bad. Off-axis sounds terrible, typical for an inexpensive mic. What processing were you using? Definitely hearing a fair amount of compression. USB mode sounds a LOT different to XLR mode. USB sounds like you used little or no processing. That said - If one does not need the usb functionality, $59 will get you a used SM57, which should be a way better mic.

No processing. That capsule absolutely sounds saturated raw. I will announce that im applying processing if i do during video. And yeah this mics just ok. Good for someone wanting that look with a solid sound

I bought this mic (after listening your video a few times) because i like the quality/price. I will buy a sound deck line M-audio or something like that, but meanwhile i would like to know if there is some way to enhance USB audio for recording podcast or streaming. Thanks in advance!

You can absolutely enhance it after recording with effects in something like audacity....a solid free recording program

It is decent. Sounds seems a little bass heavy. The issue with the headphone jack is no bueno on this go around. So many good mics at great prices these days. For what I am looking for I am gonna pass on this one. BTW this is such a great channel. really enjoy your content. Thanks for the review.

Strange that his didn't allow zero-latency monitoring in USB mode. I have this mic and the zero latency monitoring works perfectly.

If this mic can work on the ps4 I will buy it in a heartbeat not only does it look good but it's affordable

Ooooo.. That's a good one. Build quality. Tonor wins. In XLR mode. I like the Tonor. Usb mode am8. Hopefully that helps. I dint use usb much, so it's the Tonor for me

There ARE xlr to 3.5mm cables.... But they won't give you much power (volume) and wo t be as clean as an interface. But you can also just go with USB mode

Argh, i have been looking at microphones since yesterday (USB since XLR needs other things as well as i understand it). Im on a budget and want something cheap but "good". Why this has become a contender is because if i get money i mean i could go XLR eventually. @@ObscureMics ohh, i have considered trying to get in to streaming but to be realistic ill probably mostly use it for discord. I were gonna do a podcast with a friend, but seeing years have passed now and nothing happened im not sure that will ever happen. As for my budget im looking for around $100, i at one point wanted to get the "Fifine" that is/was so popular but living in EU (Sweden to be exact) that microphone is not offered on the european amazon and ordering it from the US with shipping and stuff it fast became verry expensive. Dang, that quickly got to be a lot of text. Thx for responding though. :)

@@ObscureMics i ended up going for a BM800 kit it keeps getting recommended by amazon. I could not find a review by your channel for it only that you made improvements to the microphone. Perhaps i just missed the video if you have one, if not it might be worth a dedicated video since i assume im not the only one that gets recommended that mic. And i guess it is a starting point to get some feel for it all, and it has to be better than my headset mic. Anyways thx for providing a channel wit a lot of information. :)

Meh. Nice to have a solid feel, buttons, XLR and USB, but if it doesn't sound good, I will have to pass. Invest in the sound quality first. For that money, I would rather have the XLR/USB Samson Q2u, which takes you completely out of the dark and into the overly bright. Neither is perfection, but the Tonor does not do it for me.
