As a half Tongan born in the US I never learned the Tongan language. I plan on learning this language by the end of 2023 and hopefully Japanese next year.

We have seventeen letters in our Tongan alphabet 🙂 teacher forgot the glotal stop, fakau'a. Without it the pronunciation of certain words are incorrect.

E.g. she had Osi, without the fakau'a, if pronounced without it, it sounds more like oosi, as opposed to 'osi

Good work! I enjoy learning foreign languages and now I’m interrested in tongan! Good job one thing: from the scientific perspective ,,ng” are TWO different letters, ,,n” and ,,g” It may be one sound that should be pronaunced, but they are two letters.

My patient only speaks Tongan and the language line we use that has many different languages does not have it as an option. This was helpful for simple communication and with pronunciation

This is wonderful to have for our kids that grew up over see. However, you need to have the glottal stop and the line across the vowel (faka'ua & toloi) to make the word correct. Like it's Mālō e lelei not Malo e lelei. Because adding those two can change the pronunciation and the meaning of the words.

Pleased to see this resource and a round of applause from me too BUT why not use the punctuation correctly each time? The toloi (macron) and fakau'a (glottal) are important cues on how to pronounce the words correctly especially for learners.
