Pacific Learners

Pacific Learners

Pacific Families - and in particular our tamariki - have been hit hard by COVID-19. The uncertainty around our young tamariki in regards to their learning and development is yet to be fully realised, however through innovation and storytelling we hope to address the cultural, social, health and learning needs of our young Pacific Learners.

Through a series of informative, funny and inspiring animated videos, we aim to tell stories through the eyes of young children that ultimately resonate with our Pacific families and tamariki.

Our characters all have unique personalities; Tevita loves reading and technology, Sione can get distracted and often distracts others around him, Talia is organised and has everything planned out, and Mele is a girl that loves fashion and makeup and Anaru loves sport, all kinds of sports.

This is wonderful to have for our kids that grew up over see. However, you need to have the glottal stop and the line across the vowel (faka'ua & toloi) to make the word correct. Like it's Mālō e lelei not Malo e lelei. Because adding those two can change the pronunciation and the meaning of the words.

I don't recommend learning all those languages at once. As someone who speaks three languages fluently I highly encourage you to focus on learning one language at once. Remember that you can only fully learn with immersion. Immersion is the only real way to learn a language. Also remember that a language is a flame that must be kept alive. A language is like a vehicle or a home, it needs to be maintained. It's like a muscle, if you don't use it, you lose it. You always have to be speaking and listening to your languages or else you will forget them little by little

Pleased to see this resource and a round of applause from me too BUT why not use the punctuation correctly each time? The toloi (macron) and fakau'a (glottal) are important cues on how to pronounce the words correctly especially for learners.

Loving this thanks, we have visited many times and love to use the local language as much as possible to show respect. Quick question, if Yadra means ( Good Morning ) and Vinaka means ( Thankyou ) how does Yadra Vinaka = Good Morning ?

I hate to be racist, but the Tongans are the only bunch who would do a decent job pruning grape vines. Looked this up just to say 'thank you' especially. Hope my pronunciation of 'my low armpit toe' goes alright.
