I doubt that this squeak is coming from the kick drum pedal. It's always perfectly on the e's and a's when counting sixteenths. The drummer would either have to always lift his foot off the pedal completely in order for the beater to swing freely at exactly the songs bpm in between kicks, or do pseudo kicks in eighth notes for no reason than to squeak all over the track.

@@rudolf2002 to your point of why would they add it in intentionally, my guess is a bad engineer recorded the drums and didn't notice the squeak. after they did that they didn't realize it until it was too late and tried to pitch it into key with the song so it sounds like an intentional part of the background percussion. kick is clearly copied and pasted too, it wouldn't have that same squeak over and over if it wasn't. you can also hear the squeak cut off very abruptly, which, fucking why would not even put a fade on it even if it was intentional or not actually the kick pedal. I'd also like to say I'm not entirely convinced it's the kick pedal squeaking but if it is, that's what I think happened.

The hard mute of the drum track as the ridiculous snare reverb is still going points to a very bad mixing engineer. But as the effects on the kick drum change over the course of the track, the "squeak" just keeps the exact same timbre, making me believe it's a sample. Like that chirpy snare you hear on so many trap beats. Mixed into the drum cacophony of the other at least 3 hi-hats competing for beats in this track. It also goes crazy only when there is a break in the vocals. There is just simply no way that when setting up the mics to track the drums a squeak this loud would go unnoticed. I have played drums live, I know about keeping time with body movements, thanks reddit.

I think regardless of what it is, it sounds bad and unintentional which is not usually very good.

This has an instrumental, it has drums, it has vocals, overall, this is the song I’ve ever heard.

That ain't a kick drum squeak, that's the sound of the Industry Plant machine working overtime to try and salvage this album from the depths of hell

Tbf, if you where being paid to prod for Tones and I, wouldn't you just say "fuck it, whatever" aswell. I'd say it's actually on Tones and I and her management okaying this mix, what's stopping ya from just saying "yo what is the deal with that squeak mate" and getting the engineer you are paying for to remove it

You'd have to be an unironic fan of a triple j industry plant who sings about a dancing monkey to not notice, it's one of the loudest parts of the song.

I don't think that squeak is from the kick drum. I honestly think it was an intentionally placed percussive sound. It kind of wobbles around after the kick drum and also wobbles around after the snare.

@@arrolate Maybe, but those drums sound particularly fake, like it's a bunch of real recorded drums triggered as samples. Really robotic and lifeless. I don't play drums myself, but something about the production makes me think it's not the kick drum.

It was once a well known/even beloved production quirk, almost to the extent that I think maybe they thought they could get away with leaving it in here. Like they were John Bonham or something. Difference would be though that this album is shit, and that the squeak on this one sounds more like a giant rusty gate swinging in the wind.
