Toronaga bowing to Toda Buntaro for his sacrifice is priceless .... also Blackthorne's diversion is hilarious ... 😂 Again, the writing is outstanding.

@@wh_kers They are all retainers. Somebody who is retained for their services. Hatamotos (banner man) are the upper level retainers Goshi (country/part-time warrior.) are mid level samurais. Goshi serve their lord part time while working in the fields at other times. Gokenin (house men) are low level samurais. Basically security detial. Ronin (masterless/dismissed swordsman). Ronins usually become mercenaries or bandits.

@@wh_kers they are all retainers. They are retained by the lord (daimyo) for their services. Highest level is Hatamoto. They have audience rights to the lord and the lord knows them by name. Goshi is a mid level retainer. Also called Country Samurai. They live in the villages in the Daimyo's domain. They are peasants/farmers who are given samurai rights. They maintain security and are to lords eyes and ears in the villages. Last is the Gokenin. These are the lowest retainers. Also called housemen samurai, they work as security detail to the lord's household/compound. When a daimyo dies due to old age, the son takes over. All retainers keep their job. If the daimyo surrenders and commits seppuku, Hatamotos dies with him. Goshin and Gokenin are released. They become Ronins, masterless/lordless swordsmen. They usually become mercenaries or bandits.

@@pangkaji so anjin is higher than hiromatsu? is that what you're saying? when hiromatsu shouted "quiet!" to other vassals and generals does that mean he's just annoyed? do all vassals equal?

"Shogun" has joined the series "Dark" on Netflix as one of my favorite foreign language shows. Absolutely incredible.

The end to this episode? Inspiring loyalty. A leader - a BIG leader - willing to do what the people on the ground will do - That's inspiring.

I friggin LOVEEEEEEEEEEE this show. I can't get enough. It's like you take and condense all the best parts out of GOT and made one season. The subtle acting, costumes, music aeverything is TOP SHELF

You guys are so perceptive and able to pick up pieces of the puzzle quickly. Impressive for first viewing.

Ooh! You know what today is! Episode 10 comes out! And Luffy's day out in Loguetown has some twists and boings of its own!

I believe the scene were Blackthorne is asked to demonstrate diving, is just a way of giving Blackthorne a bath without him knowing. He had refused a bath earlier, to Mariko's consternation.

@@maxmichalik4938 To me it was just a showing of Toranagas character. Observing and analyzing, being patient and waiting for his enemies to tire themselves out. Scenes often have to fulfill multiple requirments in what the scene is trying to convey to the audience. A bonding moment at surface level and a bath beyond that seems kinda weak to even consider it making it into an episode and a show of tihs scale. Having watched more episodes I would urge anyone to question and guess cultural and symbolic meanings in scenes and guessing what significance it might have to the story.

Incorrect. In the previous series, Toranaga learns a sailor dance from Pilot Major Blackthorne. The great Lord is willing to learn a skill from a Barbarian; he's honoring him.

Mariko is one of those supporting characters who radiates main character energy.

The shogun is dead and his son is an infant , this is a conflict between two top lords to become the Shogun other factions and interest just muddle the scene

Hidetoshi was the emperor not a shogun. Shogun is a lord that take the head of japan instead of the emperor. So here the lords are fighting to became shogun because the emperor is to young to rule Japan.
