In my late 50s and when I listen to songs from 'Sorry, Ma' it truly does make me feel 17 again. "Taken a Ride", "Careless", "I Hate Music." These all started a life-long love affair with The Replacements. Thank God I found their music...

I grew up on the Replacements. I listened to Tim literally every single day on my walkman on the way to school and it made me so happy. Still does! I also remember begging my parents for money to buy Don't Tell a Soul. I love all their albums equally...Bash and Pop's as well. Out of all the music I've ever known, no band evokes the same great feelings over all these years as the Replacements.

When I brought "Tim" home from the record store, my older sister and her husband and my folks had just gotten home from dinner (they probably had a couple of drinks in them). They asked what I bought and I showed them. They said to play it for them, and I did while I waited for them to dismiss it as noise or whatever. They liked it! They mentioned "Springsteen" ("Kiss Me On the Bus"), "Beatles" (solo on "Hold My Life") and "Chuck Berry" ("I'll Buy") as references. When "Dose of Thunder" came on, it was a different story🤣. It's still one of my favorite driving records!

Also, depending on the night, they could be the best band in the world to see play live -- or the worst. This could hinge on either how drunk the guys were, or how bad of a mood they were in, or how they felt about the audience, or how they felt about each other, or how they felt about that particular venue hosting them for that given gig, or how they felt about their mgmt, or how they felt about touring in-general -- or any combination of those factors.

Was a college DJ back in the eighties when I first came across them....soon started a band because of those guys....forward to 1987 or so we went to see them in New Haven CT....before the gig we stopped in at a local bar and.... there they were at the bar already juiced for the show!! We sent them drinks...they said thanks...and they poured out the bar to the venue!! Great memory!!

I was moved by the mention of Peter [Jespersen] mid-way thru -- especially when Tommy said he'd trust him with his life, given that the band had had a falling-out with him some time in the past; so, it's good to know that they've mended fences between them 'cuz he was their #1 fan from day one! Without him, who knows if they'd ever have gotten that first album recorded!!

“Sorry Ma” is my favorite Replacements album. Got it from a Best Buy when I was 14 in 2005. The Replacements were mentioned in, “Come as You Are”, by Michael Azzerad. He mentioned they were from Minnesota. Being from Minnesota, I had to check them out and there it was.

@@jwhines2 True, it's funny how the excessive "80's reverb" sound has aged so poorly that some new mixes are dialing it back or removing it altogether (the new mixes of the Velvet Underground material from "VU" and "Another View", The Misfits "12 Hits From Hell", Blast's "Blood")

@@zippymufo9765 Absolutely 👍 I remember an 80’s radio interview where they started putting reverb on George Harrison’s acoustic & voice. George told them that he hated reverb and to keep it dry. I think he did a Dylan tune. Reverb is cool as long as it’s tasteful on bits of a song. I’m pretty sure the new release of Pink Floyd’s Momentary Lapse has Mason’s re-recorded drums without the big reverb. They wanted it to sound less 80’s & more like the rest of the catalog.
