You got it almost right. He have to sing 8 notes higher then the original. I think that the key he start to sing in, is usually the key the song ends in. It's totaly insane.

I am trying to figure out how to sell my soul to Satan in exchange for a production of the musical Chess with Tommy as "The American", Marko Hietala as "The Russian" and Floor as Florence... but sadly I'm not very successful.

It means that the whole song is one octave higher than the original (or more precisely Josh Groban version) which already goes pretty high by the end, so it says something about Tommy's vocal abilities

I've suggested to him that he should do a colab with her on his page, my suggestions were either Meatloafs "I'd do anyhting for love" (that would only be a small part for Floor though) or the Meatloaf and Cher duet "Dead ringer for love".

I'm not sure if you liked it...🤣 Yes it started one octave higher than the original...But hey, can you think of any other male singer at this time to top that??? Or even a female... That one single (the highest) note is so high that in a few years i cannot even hear it...😆 And still all those high notes were very well in control. That was amazing.

The original song goes 8 notes lower from start. Pretty much you can se it like this. The beginning of the song is in the original version were the song ends. The challenge with it is that the original is already fcking high :P. Many singers goes their whole life without hitting the note he hits in the beginning. Then it just goes 8 notes higher from that to the end. So if the original song is a insane high note, this is insane x8 :D
