I've always been a fan of technique for how it felt to me and allowed me to do things. Seeing this guy reach great stick heights and achieving great sounds and quality of tone is inspiring and amazing
Igoe is a genius! Love the language he uses when he teaches.

Tommy Igoe in all my years of drumming I have never come across anyone as great as he is. The way he explains with kindness & conveys his passion is pure genius
He’s such a legends. Amazing drummer AND person
This guy gives great lessons. This is a great groove. On the extra fast samba, you can use quarter notes part of the time on the ride until you can get the strength to play it in all eighth notes. The left hand pattern will keep the feel going with the bass drum. Just like his explanation of the really fast jazz cymbal pattern, you can revert to quarter notes part of the time to keep from "running out of gas" on the pattern.
really really great feel there

Amazing teacher and drummer… I employ much of his philosophies and approach to teaching with my own students at American One Productions in NJ
His dad was a really great guy and amazing drummer.
Right beat to my Brazilian samba lover ears!
Wow! Sounds great. Dynamics, tempo, feel. Looks so effortless. Inspiration!
I love how passionate he teaches on the samba beat =D really interesting to watch

Didática perfeita! Congrats
So glad I discovered this tutorial. Will be happy if I can play half of the syncopation, but I'll strive to play it all.

Amazing!!!! True!!!!!!! Thank you for this information, Now I am changing the way I was playing bossa!!!

Bossa is in 4/4 (4ter note feel) while the samba is in 2/2. Quite different feels, and the basic snare rythm of bossa-nova is very specific. A theme like Wave (Antonio Carlos Jobim) is built around the bossa-nova clave. Most people don't understand that, you hear a drummer playing a samba, and a sax destroying the theme...
Thanks for sharing, this is i need to practice
Its like each of his hands and feet have a brain of its own. Amazing.
Tooop lembrar-se bateras unidos jamais será vencidos ☕ muito bom.
tommy é um mito
You make it look so easy man. Love watching this but gotta practice.
Excelente!! 👏👏👏🎉

Man... Samba bossa. I love, I play the first one, second is too fast. Lol. Well done mate.
Genius
genius Thanks. ;)
It is very difficult for a drummer from a country other than Brazil to play a decent samba. But Tommy did very well !!

I totally agree with you! His body movements are also very into samba.
What is the jazz tune in the intro? Up to about 0:17. I like it.
Tommy's words; it's really really easy...
5:23 dope
He's counting as if samba is in 4/4. I suppose that makes for easier verbal counting. But samba is usually written in 2/4. Correct counting would be "1 e & uh 2 e & uh."
SÜPERRR
Nothing inspires as much as that guy does.
Anybody know the intro song?
Samba is hard I'm Brazilian and I don't know how to play I'm still learning and I'm 50 already I just started unfortunately!
What would you guys suggest if you literally can not get this groove down, no matter how many times people teach it to you, how many videos you watch, and no matter how much you practice?

keep practicing it until you do. slow it down. play it one limb at a time, then two limbs, etc. work on your limb independence. play with a metronome at all times.
What sticks is he using
Where can I get the backing track of that song

Chris5640xxx it’s included with the groove essentials book. It comes on a disc, and I believe you can purchase the e-version of the book with the audio files as well from Hudson music

@1:55 "That's an accent, that's not an accent" WHAT?!
@user-tz6jl7qt8k

He was just saying to shank the hihat but don't accent it.
@zev1342

He showed an accent to show the 'wrong' way to play. And after that he convince the learner it is not supposed to be an accent like what he just showed, but the right way is not with accent like he played formerly.
👍🙂*I would call the “not an accent”, simply an inflection..👍🙂 😂And if you play the inflection too hard, it’s an “infliction”! 😂‼️
No se podra en español esto es muy intendible

Great instruction but the gulping though:)

Didn't know that Jamie Lannister do drums
👍😂So, what I think he’s saying is, it’s NOT an accent..
Samba is 2/4, not 4/4
This is a perfect american samba not brasilian

The left hand root rhythym is literally Bad Guy by Billie Eilish
