    Sungha will surely be one of the greats when he`s older. If you look at his vids he is excellent now! Go Sungha!!! :)

  • @ariefgant

    @ariefgant

    9 жыл бұрын

    richardd2063 He's unique, but I don't think he'll be one of the greats, maybe he'll only reach medium level at his peak. Take a look at Joe Robinson for example. He was miles better than Sungha back then when he was at the same age as Sungha right now (18). Sungha becomes famous because he covers a lot of hit songs. But technically, he's.a standard fingerpicker IMO.

  • @lethaihien12345

    @lethaihien12345

    9 жыл бұрын

    ariefgant technically standard ? he's perfect at any fingerpicking technique, from the classic one like tremolo or modern one like mute attack. He's already one of the best in the world now in term of fingerpicking. Would you please name some better fingerpickers please, if you can. And it's not the technique that makes someone great, but being known and loved by people. Even Bob Dyan is considered one of 100 greatest singers of all time (no.7 - list by The Rolling Stones). I can name few guitarists who has better style/technique than Sungha does, but I believe none of them is or will be considered one of the greatest.

  • @ariefgant

    @ariefgant

    9 жыл бұрын

    Lê Thái Hiển Then guess you only listen to him, or you don't really play guitar. I've been learning fingerpicks for 5 years and count (yes I'm a newbie). I've been listened to legendary names such as Django Reindhardt, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Tommy Emmanuel, etc. At least I know about what true fingerstyle is. Listen to those names and you'll understand what I say. Yes Sungha is still young, It's not fair to compare him with those legends. Don't worry, I still have Joe Robinson and Gareth Pearson whom already way better back then when they were at Sungha's age. They have way more complex technique and musical ability than Sungha. And of course, they're way better than Sungha.

  • @lethaihien12345

    @lethaihien12345

    9 жыл бұрын

    ariefgant lol if you say what Joe Robinson and G.Pearson does is more complex, then I'm pretty sure you've only watched some simple covers of Sungha and he's the only asian fingerpicking guitarist that you know. And how exactly do you compare musical ability ? They all compose songs, cover songs in their own styles. Oh, please don't say that just because you prefer Joe or Gareth's songs, you think they have better musical ability. And again, we're talking about being great, but not being more skillful. And I'm pretty sure the one who has way more views, way more subscribes, way more tours, way more songs - covers - albums - tours is the one of, if not the greatest among his generation. btw I do play guitar. and 5 years ? yeah, you're right about being a newbie.

  • @ariefgant

    @ariefgant

    ***** Of course he could be a great guitarist, but not one of the greatest like Tommy, Chet, Jerry, Django. Because no one can be matched with them. You know I'm just predicting, not assuming. Like when I saw a potential player in soccer, I could freely make my own judging regarding the player future. I know my prediction either could be correct or incorrect. That's not my point. My point is, I am free to judge someone's future.

    ill be honest ive seen tommy emmanuel live and hes a great guitarist, but not necessarily one of the best. i play a lot of his stuff and a lot of it is in open position and is relatively easy you just have to learn how to travis pick and it took me awhile to learn that because its pretty hard at first. But i respect tommy as a guitar player because he is really great. but there are others that are way better than him.

    I think our wonderful Aussie guitarist feels very humbled, at the same time remembering that he and his brother Phil, started at a young age performing guitar together. But then Tommy & Phil love to foster young talented artists here down under as well as overseas. And the young Sungha Jung must also be elated at being given the chance to play alongside Tommy and other great guitarists of the world.

    +T Rays Well said. It's strange how you can sometimes come across like minds through the comments section. I looked at your channel and was pleasantly surprised, you see I am a dedicated guitarist, who did at one time brew his own Kombusha tea (I just tired out of the weekly turnaround) and also is certain that our (the US) economic situation is untenable. Like "they" say, great minds think alike. God bless!

It hadn't even entered my mind yet that there might be more videos already up, and I hoped in my comment that there would be more footage. Sungha and Tommy???!!! This may be historical footage. Another of the world's most respected masters, bowing to Sungha's prowess, and not just sharing the stage with him, but happily jamming with him. Simply awesome!!

    Thank you SO much for this, ellelesrose! I thought I'd seen all of Sungha's earlier videos, but I don't remember this one at all. I love the way he digs in and has Tommy doing those double-takes, the first recognition and acknowledgement of his incredible potential. This time around, though, not only is it a bigger stage, but I'm seeing Tommy accepting and addressing Sungha as an equal. They're one-on-one as musicians, not "big star and little kid." Coming from Tommy, that's big!
