Michael- if you were wondering what happened with Phil, he died from an asthma attack in 2018. He was 65. Also, Tommy Emmanuel was the guest of honour on “This Is Your Life” TV show in Aust. some years ago. All his siblings were there, all musicians as their father had taught all of them how to play. The family travelled around (a bit like the Von Trapps), That was a great episode and is on KZread. Every time I watch Phil and Tommy play I think of what a great loss Phil was to his family and the world. Those nuanced looks between them about what they’d try next etc. were so special… RIP Phil Emmanuel!

Rip Phil. ❤️
I gave Phil a copy of Dire Straights first album around June 78 when he was playing with “ Gillian Eastoe and king Dog “ at the orient Hotel in the Sydney “ Rocks”.. a week later he played “ Sultans of Swing “ with the band … I regularly used to give him all sorts of mixed tapes with people like Alan holdsworth , Camel , Jeff Beck etc ….and be amazed when he’d play little passages and licks during solos for other songs 😳.. last time I saw him was at “ the Factory theatre “ a couple of weeks before he passed ..

So cool that your paths crossed. Cool story and memories I’m sure. ❤️ RIP Phil.
Phil passed away about 6 years ago. He was a brilliant guitarist.

Incredible ❤️
I saw them for the first time at the Bondi Hotel back in the early '80s. It was a hot steamy night. We were all sitting around drinking, when they came into the bar, jumped up onto the stage and played. Everyone was well entertained that night, the cold beer flowed, and we went home happy.
I could imagine them jamming like this for hours and hours.. No wonder They are so good and that was 30 odd years.

I could imagine sitting listening for hours too!!
Been waiting for you to do Tommy & Phil
i've seen these guys (brothers) live. The inventiveness and the creativity and the sync is amazing . This clip really doesn't do justice to the genius of these guys. Also, for simple acoustic brilliance please, please, please check out Australian artist Guy Sebastian song Battle Scars (only do the the home studio ANZAC version) you will love it. Guaranteed.

It’s on the list. 🙏
Tommy was once asked what it felt like to be the best guitar player in the world. His reply was "I'm not even the best guitar player in the family".
Yo! amazing as always! Imagine the fun these two shared. R.I.P. Phil.
I remember seeing them in Goldrush. Tommy was on the drums. No surprise...he was a pretty good drummer.

Nice. Yeah he plays drums on his guitar sometimes and it sounds amazing
I hate that the camera was only getting their faces on the double act

I found that a little annoying too…..what cameraman wouldn’t be able to figure out what the focus was there.
Yo. Happy New Year. Glad I finally got back to this one

It’s so good!! Happy New Year 🎆
RIP Phil....
❤off to see Ian Moss tomorrow night
Tommy is strictly rhythm, he doesn't want to make it cry or sing.
Yo, that was amazing! Of course, I've heard Tommy a number of times, but Phil was showcased here, cheers Michael.

Indeed!!
Phil is a bit older. Tommy always "plays second fiddle" when in the presence of his big brother

Exactly right. People new to the Emmanuel Bros don’t realise that Tommy used to play rhythm for Phil.
Yo, they are, indeed, playing like one person split in two - they just know what the other is feeling and where it's going to go.

💯
Your intro should be every companies on hold music. Put the phone on speaker and it wouldn't matter if they took half an hour to get to you . Tommy and Phil were / are formidable proponents of the guitar.
