Tommy Carruthers Showreel - Underground Edition

Ойын-сауық

After months of following, and filming the great Tommy Carruthers, my friend, Martin Dick, began to edit Sifu Carruthers first official showreel, and instructional DVD.
Just before Martin could be paid for his hard work, the showreel was snatched, and unleashed onto the internet.
This video also features original music, by Raymond Paterson, of the band "Diverz Palace", which was specifically recorded for the Tommy Carruthers instructional DVD.
The aspect ratio has been corrected for the purposes of streaming video sites.
Thanks to the great editing skills of Martin Dick, the fantastic fighting abilities of Tommy Carruthers, and his fellow students, for this amazing video.

Tommy Carruthers is the biggest bs artist going. Bruce would have disliked him. This guy doesn't spar or train fight full contact which you'd expect for someone who claims to be training for the "streets". You'd have to simulate the street environment in some way and he does none of that.

@@mrt445funny how you say that when Bruce’s very first student Jesse Glover did a whole video about him literally talking about how gifted he is and is the closest thing to Bruce he’s ever since since Bruce. It’s even on KZread. Go ahead and watch it. I’m sure you conveniently leave that part out when you slag him off online don’t you? You are bitter little man. Every time I see your comments you have nothing but utterly toxic hate spewing from your mouth. You are absolutely pathetic. Tommy is 63 years old you moron. He’s done all the sparring he needs to do. He’s had all the fight experience he needs. His time is spent teaching his students and staying in shape these days. You’re an idiot. If Bruce was alive Tommy would no doubt be his number one student. Bruce would be proud to see someone be able to execute the same technical proficiency of JKD principles and body mechanics which next to nobody seems to be able to do. All these so called “JKD instructors” but almost none of them look anything like Bruce Lee. Even Bruce’s own wife and daughter had Tommy demonstrate JKD twice for Bruce Lee’s birthday celebrations. Pretty good for a so called “bs artist” wonder why they didn’t ask anyone else. You really ought to have your account banned for the amount of bs and misinformation you spread about the guy. KZread is full of cowards like you. Why don’t you be a man and go to his school? See how that works out for you instead of hiding behind your keyboard talking nonsense.

All you people that are misjudging JKD, should learn what JKD is all about. It is by no means a "trad MA", its more of a philosophy that almost every UFC fighter today condones and accepts; To learn multiple martial arts and become a more complete fighter, disregarding the tools that are not useful to you and taking in the ones that are. All you MMA-sport fighters that are criticizing JKD and calling it a "trad MA", are just criticizing themselves due to their lack of understanding.

@@Nez949 Do you know what depresses me. The fact that if Bruce Lee lived longer he would have implemented BJJ into JKD and he would have loved MMA, he possibly would have created something like the UFC before we officially had it in the 90's. JKD practitioners like Tommy Carruthers are trying to act as if he knows how JKD would have turned out or how Bruce Lee would have responded to MMA because Tommy Carruthers hates MMA. Even when Bruce Lee was alive he already knew how to apply the main BJJ submissions because he studied Jui Jitsu. Tommy Carruthers constantly complains about MMA not being realistic eventhough in Brazil they have Vale Tudo MMA fights that have barely any rules. They ALLOW groin shots eye pokes, headbutts and hair pulling but JKD fans continuously act that these MMA events do not exist, and that groin shots and eye pokes are secret techniques that only they're aware of when even untrained people use them all the time... Vale Tudo proves that even with these limited rules BJJ and grappling in general are the determining factors in who wins not who gets eye pokes or who gets kicked in the nuts. anyone can apply a groin kick or eye poke effectively, especially trained MMA fighters. If I can kick to the chest, legs and head I won't struggle to soccer kick someone to the nuts, or if I can punch someone to the face I won't struggle to poke them in the eye..... These are basic things that I shouldn't be telling people. These attacks take seconds to learn but to become a BJJ black belt takes years and Bruce would have been a BJJ black in the 80's in addition to his fantastic striking skills had he lived longer. Tommy Carruthers on the other hand has zero sparring footage of himself proving the effectiveness of his own skills. He only has demonstrations. The funny thing is eventhough he has segments of him punching fast (which doesn't prove that he hits hard or can actually fight) he has choreographed fights that show that he has really slow body movement and footwork when closing the distance. He also thinks he has surpassed Bruce Lee and the Bruce Lee family today hates him for that, but he doesn't need to prove so by actually fighting people, that's the type of person we're dealing with.

The quicker your punches and kicks gather speed, the more momentum your punches and kicks will have. Momentum translates into force. The real drawback of performing quick rabbit punches is that you have to counteract your momentum in order to pull back your fist/foot for the next quick strike. Mastering quick strikes allows you to use your opponent's body parts to counter your momentum, instead of using your own strength to counter your momentum. Masters' strikes are both quick and deadly.

Scientifically speaking... Strength = amount of force used against an object (Work) Speed = rate at which an object moves or changes position (Time) Power = Amount of Work expended over a period of Time So neither speed alone nor strength alone automatically equates to power. Just like you can have a guy who's very strong but is slow, you can have a very fast guy who's not but is weak. Guys like Bruce Lee are exceptional in that he could lift heavy weights and had blinding speed.

You NEVER know when the other person is gonna fight dirty. Also by doing this you are letting the opponent dictate how the fight itself plays out.Fights are spontaneous controlled chaos in motion and you can never tell what the other person might be thinking. If you have a shot take it.

@franklouuu Look up Moti Horenstein, who started MA at age 5, was a junior champ in Israel, and studied Krav Magda. He fought in early MMA, before there were extensive rules in place. His record is 1 win, 6 losses. His 1st bout was against Mark Coleman - also his 1st bout - a pure wrestler with NO martial arts training. Coleman took Horenstein to the ground and beat him to a pulp. His second bout was against Mark Kerr, another wrestler with no MA training.

last quote, "The other weakness is, when clans are formed, the people of a clan will hold their kind of martial art as the only truth and do not dare to reform or improve it. Thus they are confined in their own tiny little world. Their students become machines which imitate martial art forms." sound much like you?

Bruce Lee never intended jkd to be a martial art in itself, in his Tau book he states that once you've read it you should throw it away as its only a suggestion,, not a ruled structure for training in. jkd is supposed to be a mindset towards other arts to form your own. so your right in the way that it becomes each persons own martial art

i was thinking more along the lines of "aaah, ref he poked me in the eye" (winces around like a pansy) , "do you need a few minutes?" "oh yes please.Boy I sure am glad youre not allowed to do that in real life...." This was an actual transcript from a Brock Lesnar fight.

@southtxguitarist That was also something bruce lee criticised in traditional martial arts. They were static and worried too much with useless moves. So he created JKD which is more a philosophy than a school. He said that people should learn simple and effective moves and discard the useless moves. He also said that fighters should have the liberty to fight the way they like instead of copying mannerisms. And finally, one should learn for several martial arts.

@TOWinkworthIpswich : (continued) to block , evade or deflect an attack. Which is also why I said the the fight starts well before the first punch is throw. Before the attack you should have been checking for exit routes. The moment you suspect that you could be attacked is when the fight starts, the only difference is the level at which you counter attack. Simply being alert of your surrounding & noticing exit routes & possible obstacles is already a form of self defense. ...
