    I'm glad they cut this scene. McMasters' death in the film seems more like an ambushed rather than this ridiculous notion that he would willingly walk into the lion's den himself. No, he wouldn't have, which is why the scene was cut. There were several moments of hat-in-hand sincerity here from Ringo, and Ringo asking kindly and gently over and over is out of character for Ringo, which is why this was cut. He obviously made several attempts to get him back. Doesn't make sense to ask him several times and to try to reason with him, if he was just going to kill him. That's silly and unnecessary.

  • @clhfev
    @clhfev11 жыл бұрын

    I never really thought Ringo was breaking character here. Whether or not he wanted (or cared) McMasters to come back, Michael Biehn plays it in this snide, almost sarcastic sort of way. Watching this, I never considered once that Ringo was being truly sincere.

  • @artistryartistry7239

    @artistryartistry7239

    Жыл бұрын

    That's a bad take. This scene is completely out of character for Ringo, and there are obvious moments of sincerity here in the acting. He makes SEVERAL statements saying he wants him back, giving him multiple opportunities to re-join. I mean, if he wasn't being sincere, why would he try multiple times to get him back? And there are plenty of gestures and statements that, again, aren't played up with sarcasm. This is WHY the scene was cut, because this characterization of Ringo is just "off" and doesn't work. If the scene was about a cat playing with a mouse before devouring him, there were many more effective ways to do that. The fact that this scene doesn't reflect that easily achievable dynamic does lend itself to sincerity.

    I still think they should've kept this scene in the film, but in another view it would've been complete ignorance on McMasters part to just walk into the Cowboys hideout not expecting to be killed for his betrayal. Been better if they just had him get killed during the river gunfight because the character was far smarter than to do something like that regardless of whatever BS story Ringo may have fed him. The animals shot up people at a wedding (which he took part in) and several even took part in brutally gang raping the bride once it was over. Did McMasters think the Cowboys were just gonna give him a gentle pat on the back and say we forgive ya buddy?

Might be he's lookin' to strike a bargain. If so, he probably figures he needs somebody like me who talks his language. Could be we got him. Earp: I don't like it. Mc: Might as well hear him out. Anyways, what choice we got? But no matter what happens, see it through to the end. If u don't I'll curse the day I ever laid eyes on u.

    Thank you for posting this, I knew there was something else missing besides this one scene. Some things just end up on the cutting room floor simply because the studio wants the film shortened.

    I think they even underneath the "come back to us" facade Ringo is putting up here, they intended to administer a hard end to Sherm, and that seems reflected in the sinister delivery of his demeanor here. I can see it both ways.

    Sherman McMasters WAS NOT killed by the cowboys. He survived the Vendetta ride. As usual Hollywood got it wrong. Or ignored history in favor of dubious drama. He died in 1892, more than a decade after the time of the Vendetta Ride.

    Anyone saying this scene should've stayed in doesn't understand Ringo's appeal at all (or what makes for good characters/movies for that matter). I'm not surprised this scene didn't make it in, I'm surprised it was even filmed at all. Ringo's dialogue here is terribly undermining to the character's persona and dangerous and mysterious presence. Ringo is a rattlesnake. Rattlesnakes don't plead with traitors, they bite them. If you think Ringo cajoling a doublecrosser to come back to their pack of wolves properly characterizes Ringo, like I said, you don't understand the character or what makes him great.

    This one should have stayed in the movie. It's makes the "they caught up with McMasters" scene WAY better. Really shows how dedicated they were to the badge. Although I can see why they removed it. I doubt I would ride up into the middle of my old gang wearing a star. How do you ride away alive from that? YA don't.

    It's just as well they didn't add this scene. It wouldn't have added anything to the film. From a logical train of thought, anyone with half a brain would know not to go back for a meeting with these guys in the first place. If for some reason that person did go back, he would at least know there's no chance in hell he's walking out of there alive if he refuses to join.

    All they had to do was 1. Put the English subtitles when Doc and RIngo were speaking Latin in the saloon, 2. Leave this scene in the movie along with another deleted scene, 3. Have a memorable soundtrack from Ennio Morricone and then you got the best western of all time bar-none. To me this movie is top 3 or top 5 Western.

    I didn't know until just a few minutes ago that that's Michael Rooker as Sherman. DAMN he's young. That mean it was like a little reunion in GOTG Vol 2. for Kurt Russell and Michael to work on the same movie after years of not doing so. Also, Johnny is played by the same guy who played Kyle Reese in Terminator, I didn't know that either!

    Yes Johnny Ringo was played by Michael Biehn who was known for playing heroes like Kyle Reese in Terminator was in The Abyss and Aliens In 1986 as Corporal Hicks who helps fight Aliens with Sigourney Weaver’s Lt Ripley. Biehn went on to play a mix of villains and cops later in his career like Navy Seal commander Anderson in Sean Connery’s The Rock and a villain in The Art Of War with Wesley Snipes.
