    The guards aren't actually gonna hurt anyone unless they're actively trying to disturb the actual tomb. This is one of many spaces around the Washington DC / Virginia area that are marked specifically with signs asking people to be silent and respectful. It's really as simple as that.

  • @sleepyvamp

    @sleepyvamp

    3 ай бұрын

    I have to wonder though to what degree the guard's behavior in response to disturbances had become "part of the show" though. There's a large crowd in most of the clips I've seen, and I can't imagine all of those people are standing there for more than a minute or two watching just to see them marching back and forth. It takes 5 seconds to take in the view of the surroundings and the tomb so the people are there waiting for something

  • @mark9531

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good afternoon Josh. You said; "step off the black mat when shouting at people?" Good question. While they are "walking the mat" they are saluting the unknown by doing everything in blocks of 21. 21 referring to the military salute of 21. They take 21 steps, turn toward the tomb for 21 seconds, etc. When they step off the mat, they interrupt the 21 steps. They do not return to the mat to complete the 21 steps. They walk to the end of the mat, and start the 21 steps over again.

    @@tommyodonnell9 Cant imagine it would be that hard. There are sledge hammer with half sized handles. You could hide it in your coat. Or a regular hammer. Thats besides the point though, the question is, are they allowed to kill you if you try to demolish it. So much for guarding it if you dont even have the power to protect it. That rifle and bayonet is not much use.

    @@Pugrug. I mean obviously their first reaction to someone trying to demolish the memorial would not be to KOS. But lets say hypothetically they did kill someone defending the memorial with gun shots or bayonet? What would the legal reprecussions, would they be in the right even if no violence was directed at the guard or spectators, but only at the memorial? Maybe technically it would be considered murder or manslaughter, but also what is the chance a Judge or Jury would convict the guard after the guard has sworn his life to protect the memorial and the memory of all our Brave Heroes.
