THIS STORY:
Here in Silver Plume, Colorado was a much-beloved man from the mining days. His name - Clifford Griffin. Clifford came from England, where he was raised. He became engaged, but his fiancée tragically and mysteriously died the night before their wedding. To escape the painful memories of his beloved, he moved to Colorado with his brother, and would become the owner of the "7:30 Mine".
Clifford spent a great deal of time near the entrance to the 7:30, which is located about 1,600 feet above the town of Silver Plume. Every evening he would sit near the edge of a nearby cliff and play his violin. The entire town could step outside and listen to his concerts.
One evening, after a particularly beautiful recital, the residents heard a gunshot. Assuming the worst, the miners of the 7:30 raced up the trail to the entrance, and were shocked at what they found.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

As a COLORADOAN, the story goes that he committed Suicide because of the loss he felt over his lost love. The monument was delivered by wagon up the winding road and was placed where he had dug a makeshift grave for himself. The note he left asking to be left where he chose to die. Sad story Good job getting up that road Ron

Clifford Griffin, emigrated to USA, is commemorated at Silver Plume, Colorado, USA, on the gold rush trail, with a prominent statue erected by his fellow miners to commemorate his generosity and the sad story of finding his fiancee dead on the eve of their wedding. He was 39 when he died in 1897. Clifford Griffin was the finder of a very rich silver and gold seam called Seven Thirty and it brought him great wealth. After his fiancee's sad death he withdrew socially from the other miners and built himself a cabin on the steep mountainside. His sole companion was his violin and at the end of the day its sad music would drift down to the valley below where the other miners gathered to hear him play. Clifford Griffin dug his own grave in the rock outside his lonely cabin, and shortly afterwards he shot himself. The statue was erected at the same spot high above Silver Plume, and is much visited today.

@@sweetestssands08 Sometimes the more you know. The worse it gets. Being the man was a recent immigrant. We can assume he had no family here. To offer the love and support he needed. His life sure took some crazy turns. They should put up a memorial sign urging people who are so depressed to reach out and get help. Back then the man had no choice. May he RIP 💔😔🌹🌹

That was a sad one. I am assuming they built the monument from boulders from right there on the mountain. I think the woman got up there with no problem because there were no trees, and the path was better. I suspect there were a couple mini slides there where you need to walk past the pines to get to the monument. Tree roots are probably causing the erosion. If you look close at the picture there are no trees, shrubs there at all. Just some tall grass which does not seem to be there anymore. Ron when you do that kind of a hike, please take someone with you in case something was to happen. If you slip and fall or faint from altitude, you need someone there to get help.
