Great video, thanks for doing this. It really helps for the 1st time setup of a solo game. One comment, at around 2:45 when talking about the Corporate Era cards, the Solo rules state to always play with the Corporate cards included. So this may trump the removal of these cards for early plays :)

Yeah, you’re right. I also (intentionally) started with one income for each resource... which you also shouldn’t do for solo. I just wanted a shot at winning if I was gonna be on camera! And you’re welcome! Thanks for taking the time to comment! If you get a solo game in I wanna hear how it goes!

@@TomTeachesGames Hey, I tried a sologame (first attempt at terraforming mars) and Im pretty sure im doing something wrong. Solo play is 14 turns basically. 14 turns = 28 actions top. Heat is 19 steps to complete, ocean 9, oxygen 14 so 42 steps total. Ofcourse there are a few cards that give you 2 steps per action... but besides that. How am i gonna do 42 steps of global parameters to complete the game with only 28 actions. Everything cost an action right, playing a card, using an action on a card, trading 8 for 1 plans/heat, standard project? send help

  • @TomTeachesGames

Oh man..... I am NOT really a strategizer.... But let me see if I can help a little tiny bit... You said "14 turns = 28 actions top" -- I'm not 100% sure I understand what you mean by that... Like, the way I read that suggests you're only taking 2 actions per turn? In reality you can take as many actions as you want and can afford. Like, once the round starts (you draw cards, and pay to keep some, etc.) then you take as many actions as you want to and have the resources for. So the amount of actions you take each turn is really going to escalate as your production increases.... Am I understanding your question correctly? and/or saying something helpful here?

Solo mode is Corporate Era only meaning that you dont start with 1 production for each resourse type as done in the standard game:/

Yeah, for such a great game the rulebook was pretty dang hard to follow -- especially for me. Heck, I remember recording this (a while ago) and especially during those parts I would have to read the paragraph explaining whatever, then hurry and record a natural explanation.... then do it again.... and again.... Definitely not natural reading.

Walmart has cheap tackle boxes that work great for organizing pieces for this game and Scythe. Less than $5 and keeps the game tidy

Absolutely! Most of my games have Walmart tackle boxes in them. They have two models these days I keep on hand all the time - there used to be a third, but they stopped selling that one, and that has broken my little organizing heart.

Tom Teaches I think I purchased the same one! I have one small one with only a few slots - great for resource cubes and another that is customizable. I really like some stuff that comes from companies like broken token, but I can’t justify spending nearly as much on the organizer as I did on the game

@@TomTeachesGames When you answered this, were you referring to the player boards or the clear plastic containers your gold/silver/copper cubes were in? I found quite a few player boards on etsy, but I haven't found as many trays/containers. I'm not sure which the OP was asking about, but I was wondering about the containers. But boy, am I have a time finding the right words to google. I found that circular one you have there, but I was hoping for something a bit cheaper. On the note of the player boards, some of those are nice looking, and I also see them as imperative as I also knock into the table. But it's tough to spend $30-50 to augment a game that cost me about the same itself. The Game Trayz version looks pretty awesome, though. Maybe if those go on sale or there's a coupon...

  • @TomTeachesGames

Oh! Great question. I the player boards were the ones I found on Etsy (Boardgame Boost). The containers I use are a brand called “Geekbox” (and on the logo the “E”s are backwards.) they come in packs of three and I always pick up a few packs from my local game store when I go. At least, I’m pretty sure that’s what I used in the video. It’s what I use the most... And I ALMOST went for the Game Trayz because I freaking love that company too.... but, for me, even though I don’t think the art is that great on the player boards, I like seeing it. I like all of the color and all that crap. So, having the big solid plastic color of the game trayz is what kept me away from those.

  • @EdwardPetersen

@@TomTeachesGames I feel the same way about the Game Trayz - both about wishing these were something that mimicked the art of the game, but also that they are a great company that can be trusted to make a great product. So, I'm stuck hemming and hawing because of the price. But I will revisit the Etsy shop. Thanks for the tip on the Geekbox stuff, I will search for that.

As of the release of the recent expansion, Turmoil, there are now official first-party dual-layer player boards for nudge-proof gameplay. As I post, they're out of stock on the Fryx Games website (listed price 160kr, no idea on shipping rates). It may be possible to pick some up second-hand from kickstarter backers who prefer their current solutions, or you could wait for them to come into stock.
