Tom Petty's daughter opens up about making "An American Treasure"

Tom was one of the really genuine good guys in rock n roll. Never tabloid fodder, never heard of him getting busted, and he always had a positive disposition. These are the losses that really hurt. Great talent and a good person. It’s still hard to believe he’s gone. His Greatest Hits and Wildflowers albums were the soundtrack to my high school and college years.

Both daughters Not nice - read texts between legal estate wife,Dana and Annakim/Adria. Excluding Dana from all Am. Treas. decisions is just indicative of a selfish, self-serving person. Why no interview with Wife? The legal heir to all Tom Petty material? Daughter - no wife doesn’t exist in this project?

I sadly believe you and according to the lawsuit that came about over his will as Dana in her paperwork filed in court that the Heartbreakers where not treated well be the daughters after Tom's death
I am so glad I got a chance to know your music Mr Petty...Rest in paradise
When Adria and her daughter, Everly, and Tom's brother, Bruce, and his children were in Gainesville for our Tom Petty Birthday Bash, an all-weekend long Petty party, they both spoke so completely from their hearts at the park dedication to Tom where he, Bruce and their friends used to play as kids. My favorite comment was Bruce's when he said that, after the dedication, his children and Everly were going to play in the park. Made my eyes well up. Thank you Adria, Annakim, Bruce, Jane, for being here and for sharing your family with us. It meant so much to us Gainesvillians for you to be here.

As a life long Tom Petty fan, I just moved to Florida... I might need to take a nice ride up to Gainesville and just be there. With Tom Petty Radio on in his car the whole time because that's all I listen to anyway... Literally the only reason I keep paying for Sirius/XM
As a teenage guitar player in England in the late 70s, this wasn't what you were supposed to listen to; but I played that debut album to death and copped a lot of chops that still stand me in good stead. Thanks Tom and the HBs.

You probably don't realize this, but the reason Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers even got to make Album #2, is because of their success in the U.K You guys literally single-handedly kept that band together long enough to hit in the U.S. Your cousins across the pond thank you.
One of the few rockers who got better looking with age! RIP Tom Petty.
Miss him, always every time I hear a song I remember where I was and how old and great he was
It's easy to see his expressions in her. So sweet.
Can’t believe it’s already been over a year without him. I am forever thankful that I got to see him and the heartbreakers for the first and sadly last time on the 40th anniversary tour for my fourteenth birthday, I’ll never forget it. Love and miss you TP💕🎸

Does it? I don't think either one of mine care much!! My youngest hasn't spoken to me in years! Daughters sometimes act ungrateful toward the many hundreds of times dad IS there for them!!!😔😔😔 My work schedule made possible my attending many of the school functions in our children's lives.😊😊😊 That still wasn't enough for her though!!!😔😔😔😢 That deeply hurts. It's her issue, not mine though.

It's incredible how I never met Tom, how I was only a distant stranger who was only connected to him only through his music. Yet his passing has broke my heart and made me feel so emotional and will miss him.
RIP Tom. Thank you for the soundtrack to my life!
Thank you, Adria! This piece was comforting and sweet!
Thank you, Adria. There’s a bruise on my soul in the shape of your dad. He guided us all through a wild era. RIP Grandpa Tommy
I know every TP fan feels the same way, It's hard to believe I'm living in a world without him.
TALK ABOUT A LOSS, WOW THERE WILL NEVER BE ANYONE LIKE TOM AGAIN WHAT A SWEET MAN ....I FIND IT DEPRESSING RIP MY BROTHER.
There is a point in this story got me very emotional is that Adria mentioned her dad is Grandpa Tom to his granddaughter. Adria is correct about her dad. Years ago back in the '80's in West Palm Beach, Florida at the old auditorium, I was part of civic club who raising money for our programs working at the concession stands. We the group were walking backstage to get to our stand to setup. As we walking, Tom & the Heartbreakers were walking towards us. I thought to myself; I yelled to Tom, What's up. Tom?! He replied back, What's up! Awesome dude! Thanks for the memories!
How wonderful to get to see Tom’s daughter speak about him and this labor of love that she, Dana, Ben and Mike made happen. How lucky Adria was to have Tom as her dad but how hard it must be for her that he’s gone. He truly was an American Treasure.
Will always miss Tom Petty.
Grew up on Tom and yes he is a treasure R.I.P Tom.
Adria is lovely. I'm positive that Tom is looking down on her very proud of how she's helping to contribute to his legacy.
thank you Adria for sharing this music
So far beyond grateful to have An American Treasure. The treasure box is perfectly named because Tom and his Heartbreakers truly are An American Treasure. Is it really and truly better to have loved and lost (Tom Petty) than to never have loved at all? I only ask because I've shed so many tears this week and again this morning. Sending love from the heart to Adria, Dana, Mike and Benmont for this beautiful gift. So much more? We fans shall wait patiently.
I cried like a baby when I heard the totally unexpected news. And, I still do. Your dad brought me so many emotions and so much joy. I could listen to him all day long. I saw him years ago in Pensacola Florida and it is forever in my heart. My daddy passed on when he was 65 so I know how you feel....I am very excited and thankful that you all are keeping our American Treasure alive and with us beause no doubt, Tom Petty lives on in this girls heart and soul. Rest in sweet peace Tom🎼🎵🎶💕❤

I had a listen to the album on Spotify and can say that It has some great unreleased songs on there that could have fitted comfortably on any of his studio albums. R.I.P Tom.
We're still missing him. I was fortunate to see him on his last tour. Something I’ll never forget. God rest your soul, tom . XO
Adria, your Dad was with you the entire time you were compiling this American Treasure. Much love to you! 💘

It'll take these kids generations to catch up with yesterdays Legends. The projection most won't make it through the entire catalog. We simply had the best, better than all the rest, better than anyone, anyone they've ever met. Tom Petty is Biblical. 45 year's later most of us will be gone. The infinity of KZread survivors will have all new names looking back etc. Time is an unstoppable undefeated monster.
Wow, this is so beautiful. I feel SO FORTUNATE to have witnessed him FRONT and CENTER on the Last DJ tour. His daughter is precious
I got to see Tom Live in Austin and that night he was really ill from food poisoning but came out and did the show anyway but told us all he was gonna sit down or lay down and he did and he sang so great and put on the best most down to earth show ive ever seen and he was not feeling well and did it anyway for us... THE CONSUMATE PRO it was sooo good the band was great and Tom just would lay on his back and jam walk around ect . I am glad his daughter can smile again and we should all keep singing Toms music no matter what. Wildflowers...
Its been over a year since Tom's passing and I still can't get over the hurt and the pain of losing him. Rest in peace, forever and always.💔😢
One of my regrets was that I never got to see him in concert!! "Break Down, You Got Lucky, American Girl and Free Falling" were my all time favorites from Tom!! Thank you for the music Tom!!
Love me some Tom Petty. His music just makes me feel good.
Love this. How could anyone give this a thumbs down. My husband and I are still grieving and I think about Tom’s family all the time. This was a beautiful piece. Thank you.
That was a fast year..... I always forget that he is gone, I still feel like he is still around....
Watching either daughter is like seeing Tom again. They have his eyes, mouth & that great sense of humor. So very sweet!
My first concert at 16 back in 1981 He played breakdown a fight broke out so he stared all over again and included Hit the Road Jack. Same night when Stevie Nicks joined to sing Stop Dragging My Heart Around and extra long someone lit several fire crackers stopped playing and started all over again. Tom Petty became a man that Was part of me from this night in Irvine, CA and tonight is just as important As his music returns through his family wife, daughters and Heartbreakers his family. Thank you for giving me a new chapter with Tom Petty and his impact in my life every day. Thought I lost him and the part of him that impacted me. This is unbelievable to continue today a year later with a new important impact with Tom Petty and his family. There is too much to share of all and how he is to me. With the utmost honored respect He affects my everyday life. His death meant more than the fan bummer. It meant My happiness gone. This past week it returned. Thank you for making me happy
He was beautiful.

Wow, well done Adria and co. You guys are brave and you have put together something really special. My heart goes out to you all. RIP Tom Petty x
I had no idea that the anniversary of his passing was coming up, I pulled out my 1971 Epiphone acoustic & thought I want to play some of Tom's songs, my music collection is stored away, I opened Spotify & just skipped around, a friends tweet the next day was like a shock, it's been a year? Really? Doesn't seem like it. This collection is going to be so great, some Song Writers are so prolific that they could never record everything, Somewhere I still have the 45 of Refugee I bought as young teen, it means so much to me now. :(
Thank you Adria! Long live Tom Petty's great music!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤️💛💖💚💜💙 I see his optimistic, hopeful attitude in you. Peace, love, and hope be with you.

I was just thinking the same thing....
To Adria and Dana you have done a great job considering how hard it must have been. They have also kept the price low, which is what Tom would have wanted. To get 4 CDS along with the background to the songs in a large booklet. In the Uk it's only around 13 quid. You would pay that much for a single CD. It must have been so hard going through all those archive videos. And it's not just a posthumous collection of poor songs. They are all brilliant. So Adria and Dana thank you.
I started my journey with The Beatles, leading me to George Harrison's CLOUD NINE album, produced by Jeff Lynne, and then those two comprised The Traveling Wilburys along with Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, and this dude named... Tom Petty. This Petty guy had a great tune in the charts called "I Won't Back Down," so I went out and got that single, and then its parent album, FULL MOON FEVER. I happily never looked back. R.I.P. Tom. ❤

Just saw this interview and what a great thing to do in remembrance of a dad and friends. I have been a big fan since a child who was born in Gainesville fl in 1975. I was luck to have a friend who’s uncle knew Tom and went to school with him so on a couple occasions I got to go behind stage at concerts in Gainesville when I was in my teens and I believe it was the full moon fever tour when I paint a picture of Tom and meet his daughters and band mates who I gave the painting to. They all seemed to like it but I never got a chance to meet Tom himself anyway his music has been a huge part of my life and great memories. Thanks Adria for going through all that for his fans ! I lost my father as well so I know that pain and if you see this I just was wondering if you all might still have that watercolor of your father I did all those years ago ? It would mean so much!
A good man's good girl! Thank you for all you gave! 💘
Losing David Bowie was huge, as was Prince but those losses didn't hit me like Tom Petty. Of all the songs in the catalog, that one that will no doubt choke me up everytime I hear it from now on is Here Comes My Girl. I don't know why that is hits me so emotionally now. Maybe its the lyrics set against the current political divisiveness "everytime it seems like ain't nothing left no more, I find myself having to reach out grab hold of something."

I get it. Bowie and Prince were amazing artists and performers but I can’t imagine sitting down and having a conversation with them. I think the difference for me is that Tom was every bit the artist but his concerts were as much about connecting with his fans as they were about sharing his music. When we lost Bowie and Prince I thought we lost music icons but when we lost Tom, I felt I lost not only a friend but the voice of my generation.

He must have been so thrilled when she was born.....bet he was a great loving "grand-pa Tommy"......as he was a great Dad. He must've promised himself that he was going to be a really good, kind and loving ❤ father to his girls. And he obviously was from what his daughter said about him. He grew up fast and had alot of responsibilities to alot of people.....his family, his bandmates, and band crew....and his fans....and he never shirked any of his responsibilities. What a talented, loving and special man. ❤ Rest in peace TP. YOU ARE MISSED.
