This move would be fine if patreon wasn't already a huge competitor in the non adult content creators donations market. Those on patreon have no incentive to switch to onlyfans.

I mean, I'd say it's because Patreon has some shitty attitudes about who they will and won't support on their platform, but saying that off the back of OnlyFans doing a mass exodus sounds hilariously tonedeaf.

The incentive to leave patreon would be due to patreons history of constantly banning businesses from using their services, NSFW or not. They've been sued over this exact issue.

I like to imagine what's going through bens head when he says smut baron, sometimes I think Ben sees the world in a unique way :)

Apparently, it was actually because banks kept screwing them over due to not wanting to be associated with a site with sexual content. They'd had accounts unexpectedly closed and such. I think perhaps the banks weren't working with them on the problem, so they did this to get their attention and resolve it immediately. They announced that they were not going through with the ban once they had sufficient assurances from their various finance holders that they'd still be supported.

@@Triairius mastercard is one of the credit card companies which actually handles transactions on the site. all the money that goes through OnlyFans goes through one of the main credit card companies

It was to do with MasterCard and visa refusing to process transactions if they didn’t stop.

this is basically what tumblr did. Used to have a ton of awesome porn and clips and they got rid of all that and suddenly tumblr was about as interesting as Google Images. Nice tumblr channel of kitten pictures or pictures of bridges. I didn't ever need to go to tumblr to find kittens or bridges.

It was definitely a publicity stunt, everyone is talking about it. There’s no way they would actually think it could work, that’s ridiculous.

@@zacko5242 It wouldn't surprise me if they're a small enough company that they don't have the resources to police all the material so they just went 'nope'. Google still struggles with getting youtube content policed correctly and they've got tonnes of people and money to throw at the problem.
