    Does anyone have any battery booster/power bank cheap but reliable enough to resort to? The other advice I would give to the community is to have a battery charger quick connector accessible from the air filter booth. Not only you would get your battery charging without having to remove the seat but, with the aid of some battery jumpers with a quick connector to that one, you could eventually help a buddy starting his bike. Happy new year Mark, happy new year everyone! 🎉

    Thank you for your great videos and true tested tips. I was not able to get these answers from my dealer. Questions: Do you leave the capacitor installed? does it drain the battery when the bike is not running? Is it true that the electrical system can be damaged while trying to start a TPI without a battery hooked up? Extreme hot and cold weather, how does this capacitor fair with ambient temperature ? Thank you

    I made an update video which goes through some frequently asked questions here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gIWZqdyHZ5ebl5s.html Yes, you can leave the capacitor installed all the time, connected to your battery. No, the capacitor will not drain your battery while the bike is not running. If you have a capacitor connected (and no battery) the TPI will run and no damage will occur. If no capacitor and no battery the engine will not run. The reason is the voltage produced by the stator is not stable enough to correctly power the fuel injection system. With a capacitor added the voltage is smoothed and the bike can run. You should note that some KTM/Husqvarna models are factory fitted with a capacitor (including KTM SXF/XCF/XC and Husqvarva FC/FX/TX) which will allow these bikes to be bump/hill started and run if the battery is dead. However, the 2020 KTM XC-W/XCF-W/EXC-F/EXC and Husqvarna TE/FE/FES do not have a capacitor and the BLS Capacitor will allow them to be bump/hill started. If kick starting then choose the option which includes the PreCharge Harness (allows for connection of a 9V for reliable kickstarting). Hot/cold weather is no issue for the capacitor. The capacitor is rated up to 105 degC. Recommend mounting in airbox so temps are not excessively hot. Life should be approximately 10 years.

    Hi, I saw another guy make theese, the ring terminals on his were open ended, so you can just loosen the batteryterminals slightly, push the connectors in, and tighten the terminals. Much easier, so might be worth it for a 2.0 version :)

    If you'd like to order a BLS Capacitor with spade connectors I'll be happy to supply it for the same cost. Just add a note when checking out. Personally I prefer the ring terminals, rather than spade terminals as the ring terminals are more secure. Yes, spade connectors are handy if you need to connect/disconnect regularly, but the capacitor can be connected permanently so I think ring terminals are better.

    Do you know how long the capacitor will hold enough charge to start the bike once it’s power source is removed? I’m assuming the capacitor will bleed off charge over time with no power source.

  • @RIPPERTON

    @RIPPERTON

    The cap doesnt need any charge to start the engine because it will charge up as soon as you start kicking. When running the cap is being held at about 13.6v by the alternator and regulator but would like to see a shot of a volt meter across the cap terminals. It will take about 5 mins to leak down to 0v.

  • @TokyoOffroad

    @TokyoOffroad

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes, that is correct. Note that there’s a gray zone between the battery operating correctly and being dead, in which it may be possible to kickstart (or bump/hill start) the bike, but not estart. But if the battery is really dead it will not start, or run. As explained in the video the capacitor will allow the bike to start (kick, bump/hill) and run even if the battery is completely dead, or removed.

    *Finally!* Had this problem with a 4T TPI ( -Husaberg- KTM FE450 2010) and i sold it soon after i was forced to push it back home (20-30km downhill route) That specific bike also had the tank wrapped around the exhaust which was _the greatest idea_ for riding on boiling fuel and waste a couple of fuel pumps (300€ x2) PER SEASON of NOT even racing! Seeing *this* product today is the first time i consider switching to a TPI 2T bike. (i'm a carb slave atm (2 bikes) and i hate it for ONLY ONE reason: *Rivers!* ) Have you seen how far oil/gas mix travels, making the water of a river undrinkable if a race goes through it on two or more spots? Doesn't make sense to leave it hooked up. If you have a flat battery then seems to me you will discharge the capacitor as well. Maybe put a switch in the circuit or quick connect in the airbox?

  • @TokyoOffroad

    @TokyoOffroad

    4 жыл бұрын

    There is no problem leaving the capacitor connected. The TPI bikes use lithium batteries and when they go flat they do not go short circuit. As such you can leave the capacitor connector all the time and when the estart doesn't work, due to a dead battery the capacitor will be there to enable starting by kickstarter, or bump/hill.

    I haven't tried, but think that adding a BLS Cap to carb bikes probably won't make a difference to starting. For Freeride good starting the key things to ensure are great shape are: 1) Battery- fully charged and terminals clean and secure; 2) Bendix bushings in good shape (XRC bronze bushings are a great upgrade from stock; 3) Bendix works smoothly, not gummed up, or damaged; 4) Starter motor is in good shape and spins quickly when power is applied.

    My personal experience is that with only a capacitor hill/bump starting works very reliably (every time): kzread.info/dash/bejne/qY13ktism6nIl6w.html For kick starting I found through extended testing it's not consistent. Sometimes it starts, but other times it doesn't. As such I'm now offering a harness which allows for the connection of a 9V battery (with protection diode), for kick start equipped bikes and when this is used kick starting becomes very reliable.
