Zyuohger was a good show! Yeah, I agree with Matt's assertion that the villains were boring and the plot was flimsy at best, but the heroes and supporting characters were great, the suits were nice to look at, and Misao has quite possibly the greatest story arc for a Sixth Ranger in all of Sentai! It's not my favorite Sentai ever, but it definitely makes the top ten.

I have watched this video many times, frequently- it´s always just satisfying and informative to hear 30 minutes of Toku ranting and hilarity.

Something I really liked about Zyuohger is that Yamato only ever got enough powerups to equal Misao (Eagle, Gorilla, Whale vs Rhino, Wolf, Crocodile), unlike Kyuranger where Lucky gets god mode and is immediately better than Tsurugi

Great stuff guys! Kiva has a REALLY cool suit that reminds me of 90's Image Comics. I can see people liking it for that reason alone. ...And Ghost has a great theme song whatever else is wrong with it. My personal Kamen Rider knowledge begins and ends with Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, sadly. All I know about the other shows is what I can see on clips.

Evolt was great at the start but after mad rogue was introduced they didnt know where to really go with the plot

I love all three of them, but Jacob's deadpan sense of humor is great! Plus, he's pretty open about his struggles with depression, so I relate to him in that way.

Here's my main issue with Amazons, as a whole. The writer seem to be under the impression that to make a show dark, you have to make the characters miserable. That's something that only works if there's either a lesson to be learned from it, or if there's something to be earned from it. Neither of those things are true in Amazons. Genuinely good characters, as in, they want to DO good, are punished for it, evil characters are rewarded or at least not punished for it, which is basically the same. Other toku shows have done the whole "put your characters through the wringer", the one I think about the most in this instance being Gaim. But, Urobuchi being an excellent writer, he knows how to make those moments pay off. Micchy getting completely humbled by the end of the show HAS A POINT! Kouta becoming a God HAS A POINT. Everybody's journey is fraught with peril, hardship, loss, etc... but there's something at the end that justifies all of that. In Amazons? There's nothing. The "good guys" don't gain anything for being good, the bad guys get away with most of everything. There isn't one moment of levity, not one moment that isn't darker than the previous one, and, in the end, EVEN counting the Last Judgement film (which, btw, is even worse), there's no sense of relief, no sense of closure. Sure the bad guys FINALLY get their comeuppance... somewhat, but the good guys didn't get much of anything. Dark and edgy is extremely hard to pull off in a satisfying way, especially if you don't know how to balance it. If you're just doing it for the sake of being cool, it looks like something out of a angsty teenager fanfic, and that's what Amazons is, an angsty teenager's fanfic. It's not even that the characters are unlikeable (and they are atrocious, don't get me wrong), it's that they don't even matter, from a story perspective. They gain nothing, in the end.

I agree. There are a lot of good dark Toku shows. Some of my favs are Ultraman Nexus and Kamen Rider Kuuga. But here's the difference between these two shows and Amazons. These two shows have dark and horror elements in their stories, whereas Amazons has dark and edgy elements in its presentation. Nexus and Kuuga didnt have to show CGI blood to make the shows dark. Nexus and Kuuga didnt have to make the characters miserable to make the shows dark. Amazons only care about its presentation. It wants to look edgy and dark using CGI blood, not using the plot/story. Before anyone said that Kuuga isnt dark, for a kids show, its dark, especially when they made it more of a J-drama with Kamen Rider elements. The mystery behind the Grongi is one of the things that makes the show interesting. They legit kill people for fun. I havent seen Ultraseven X yet. Ive heard that its good so im excited. If its good, then there's one more example of dark Toku shows done well.

Take everything that Jakov said about Amazon's, and you have exactly all of my problems with the new Transformers show on Netflix. I swear I was expecting Bumblebee to say "f***** Optimus" at any moment.

I think the deal with evolt is that he did things out of a whim, technically he acomplished his original goal when he got his black hole form and the rest was just him trying to get to other planets faster (in other words doing things out of laziness), wich is a reason why i like him but that's just my personal opinion. But i'll agree build became kind of a mess during the episodes sento's dad was on the show (mostly because it was set up for the movie)

I loved Zyuohger I loved Build, but I do agree with a good portion of your points, but I still loved it, it’s bottom of the top for me

There's only one show that I hate with a passion, and that is Kousoku Sentai Turboranger. Unlike the show that came after (Fiveman) who tried their best, Turboranger didn't even try and end up with plot hole after plot hole after plot hole

Can't wait to hear your opinions on the Amazons movie cause according to someone on the Kamen Rider subreddit who saw it in theaters, it is worse than season 2. And the RAW is already out so it's only a matter of time until its subbed so we can understand how bad it is.

Garo DarkShine is great! Ryuga is pretty cool in his first incarnation, very boring every time after, his team dynamic with Takeru and Aguri was solid, Vol City was cool to learn about, the twists were wild and the action was pretty tight. One of the better Garo seasons imo.

Marcus and Jacob are shock that Matt hate zyuohger

Why do people hate the mechs in Zyuohger? And NO! Saying it looks like Minecraft is NOT A VALID CRITICISM!

Are you kidding me? Grateful was awesome. Maybe it’s just me, but I like those forms where they combine all the gimmicks into one suit. Xross saber doesn’t do that, but at least it has a cool design even if it is a real pain. The transformation, I can listen to on repeat.

Thank you for that Build rant Marcus. I don't hate Build, but it annoys me when people ignore the writing problems of the show's final 1/3. It had the potential to be great, but it ultimately did not live up to its full potential.

I love zyurangerr even though it’s been a few to several years since. I watched just zyuranger alone all the way through from beginning to end by itself. Thought I remember alot of the minor tweaks context wise that saban changed. To the massive severe major changes and edits that tHan Saban had executed .When adapting super sentia zyuranger and releasing it to air on cable. Under tge English tittle of just plan normal mighty morphing powers. A title kept and used up till the the fourth season of Americanized version which was an adaptation of super sentia ohranger. Were they dropped the mighty morphing part an aired it on cable as just power rangers zeo.

You guys either forgot to add Kamen Rider Decade or thought that it wasn't bad enough to add to your respective lists. I also think that each of you is going to have to add at least a couple more titles to those lists by the time this year is over (cough*Kamen Rider Zi-O*cough*Rider Time Ryuki*cough). At least it helps me learn Japanese, which is why I started to watch Toku (it's more interesting than J-Dramas to me when it's good)...so there's that at least. By the way, I caught some of Ultraman Orb: Origin Saga. You're right, Jacob and Marcus. It's very boring except for Agul (because Tezuka) and Juggles. This channel is very enjoyable and informative, and here's another hug for Jacob if he still wants one.

Build had a lot of problems, mostly towards the middle portion and rushed ending, but I still was satisfied with how it ended. I also like Wizard despite Haruto being cardboard.

I think Jacob Rants might be better than Marcus Rants, just might.

We actually learn quite a lot about Haruto from wizard. We learn that his parents died which inspired him to never give up hope which made him become a kamen rider, he was then "adopted" by the woman who looked after him after his parents died, the stuff with his teacher as well as his dream to become a footballer (soccer player) but stopped as he injured his friend (bamba). Gaim on the other hand is absolute trash. Characters are either boring, annoying and forgettable. Writing is nonsensical as well as the story and the tonal change between the dancing arc and the next arc is painful. Some of the filler (kikaider) took me entirely out of the show as it didn't fit into where it came.

How can you hate Redman

Every time you guys talk about Kiva you mention Jojo being the belt, can we have a conversation about Kiva that doesn't? Not that I have a problem with it but that's been burned into my memory of every time you've talked about that show.

I never seen Zyuohger, I only seen clips of it n one thing I don’t like about the show is Misao being depressed like and the mechs which are just cubes

I can see ultramanginga being bad i dropped it after like 5 episodes because it felt boring and i thought the acting was terrible and it was was weird during those early episodes forgot which one and I dont care was when the mc was suppose to be angry and determined to defeat a monster he just screams like he's attacking but smiles while doing it

I’ll have to keep that in mind when I’m about to click on a Zyouhger episode, except for episode 28 and 29. Those were the only good episodes, that I’ve seen.

Go-Onger was great

Even though I do enjoy season 1 of Amazons, I do see the issues that Jacob has with it. Like I think my favourite episode for the wrong reasons was the one with the serial killer. I haven’t seen season 2, but from what I’ve read I’d probably hate it (alpha even more hypocrite, terrible lead, ruining the great designs from season 1)

I give credit to Zyuohger, the cube animals themselves are adorable and makes me hope Hasbro makes more of them when they bring it over~ (or at least let me see what Rhino looked like before he was gutted and mounted on the front of a truck!) If we're talking my least favorite toku, bottom 5 in no particular order: Ghost- Mostly bad characters, bad pacing, bad plot, and can we please stop waiting all our phoenix downs!!! Inazuman- soooooo boring! And they wasted fourze x wizard just to reboot him for absolutely no reason at the cost of Fourze's belt! (thankfully being fixed off-screen in Generations Final) Giant Robo- lazy suit design and outclassed by the anime in every way. Amazons season 1- A main lead who flips more than a waffle-house politician. (At least I can say season 2 had the courtesy of a decently tragic ending and actually being about SOMETHING!) Ultraman R/b- I am trying so hard, ok!! But it's so boring! I know it's not over yet but we're halfway done and nothing has happened except a man-child villain who's just a stand in for the writers to rag about their overly critical fanbase. (Note: It is possible for it to end strong but unless the last half turns into Miyauchi's coked out fever dreams then the first half still land it low in my book because everything in this series so far is painfully slow and just not fun to watch...)

To be fair with Giant Robo it was the first adaptation of the manga as well as being among the big 4 of Toku that got dubbed in English in the 60s along with Ambassador Magma, Specterman, and Ultraman

@@ssj4jason737 To be fair... I wrote this almost 4 years ago and my opinions have significantly changed since then. I still think Giant Robo is outclassed by the anime, but that's largely due to the anime being just really good and not on the toku itself. The toku isnt actually that bad (apart from being a little slow and the design looking rather odd)
