To be completely honest. The only connecting thread between Zuko and Todoroki is burn in the same place. Todoroki has much more in common with Azula. Both have daddy issues but we're clearly their fathers favorite, and all attention and expectation was on them to succeed due to both of them having something odd about their flames (Azula's flames were hotter, Shoto's flames were complimented by his ice). Zuko has more in common with Dabi. Both were tossed aside and abused by their father due to not being able to compete with their "objectively" superior siblings, only to fall down a dark path (one that Zuko was able to walk away from.) Dabi is what Zuko would have been without Iroh or aang. If Zuko didn't have someone to help him change and grow better he would have turned into a complete monster. Azula is what Shoto would have been without Deku, who was able to turn Shoto to the side of good. Zuko and Shoto have almost no connection. Sure they both have burns but so does Dabi, so that connection applies to him too. Shoto has daddy issues but, again, so does Azula, so that connection applies to her too. They both have fire but so does Dabi AND Azula, you get the point. (Edit: But Zuko don't have fire and lightning, he only learned to redirect it)

What’s crazy is Todoroki in that episode flat out says my mom poured scolding on my face because she couldn’t stand the sight of me.

Aaron the brave little soldier boy song is also sad because after they recorded the voice actor for Iroh singing it he died a few days later from esophageal cancer. That's why at the end of that episode (Tales of Ba Sing Se) they said "in honor of Mako".
