one thing i like about tocchet is that he always seems like he knows where the team is falling short, and is actively trying to fix it, there are some coaches around the league that sometimes you get the feeling they either dont know what is going wrong, or they have no idea how to fix it.

It helps that despite being a point producer in the NHL, it wasn’t expected. He was a 6th round pick when I believe they only had 6 rounds in the draft and even though he had a 100 point season in his final junior year, I don’t think a lot was expected of him and he had 39 points in his first full nhl season. He got where he got through a lot of hard work in one of the toughest times to play. So he knows what it takes and can impart that to the players.
Considering what an absolute monster Tocchet was on the ice, the number of punches he's endured in his lifetime, it never ceases to amaze me that he's so concise and analytical.
Bruins stayed alive, but PWHL Boston just completed the first ever sweep! Super happy about that. Onto the Walter Cup Finals
I really appreciate you covering the PWHL playoffs. I would never ask you to add more to your plate (my god, you produce so much already) but it’s wonderful to see my favorite hockey youtuber covering the women’s side
Tocchet has every right to call guys out. I’m looking at guys like Hronek, Pettersson and Mikheyev that simply need to step up their game.
@finneganfly

I think Mikheyev is beyond stepping up. (Maybe podkolsin instead?). He’s just a body on the ice at this point. Cole has scored way too many goals for Edmonton.
Spooner being out is devastating. They might make it past Minnesota but Boston is going to be a problem.
Damn shame about Spooner. I'm rooting for Minnesota, but you love to see a great player cook!

As a Minnesota fan I hate seeing this too. This team has had a tough time adjusting if thier plan isn't working and it took them 3 games to figure out a counter punch line setup against Toronto (literally watched thier lines switch in 1st period game 3). Now they are being asked to change on the fly in a do or die game 5 to address whatever changes Toronto makes? I hope they can but I'm not confident. This is just good hockey to watch, though if MN does win it'll be tainted without having Spooner on the ice. Either way I hope you enjoy the game
BTW, we could see the Memorial Cup field be set. Drummondville will represent the Q. London and Moose Jaw can clinch the OHL and WHL league championships respectively tonight. With all the sweeps going on, I’m really interested to see how this year’s Memorial Cup will go. Doubt it’ll be a repeat of last year when Quebec more or less ran over everyone.
I know the "Nobody wants to play in Calgary" Narrative has been around for a long time now but this is the first time I feel like the team itself is super worried about it too, they have PTSD from losing Gaudreau and Tkachuk at the same time

@@whoshotashleybabbitt4924 I wouldn’t usually, but Val was huge to that team. Even though the Avs won tonight, I wiuld be very surprised to see the Stars lose this series. As for the next round, the quality of play between the Canucks and Oilers is night and day compared to the Avs/Stars. Weirder things have happened, but as a super rough estimate I would give the Stars a 75% chance to make the finals right now.
Toronto Women up 3-1 on Boston Women, we know how this ends.
Well, if there’s one coach who knows how hard you have to work to be the best, it’s Rick Tocchet. Big guy but a 6th round draft pick when I believe they only had 6 rounds. He had a great final year in junior, but I don’t know that a lot was expected of him in the pros besides enforcer/grinder/bottom 6. But he got to where he got through sheer will and determination. For all the “passengers,” Tocchet has managed to get through to the majority of the team over the course of the season. But there’s more certain guys can give.
Man could the Stars use some rest! They’ve been playing every other night since game 3 of the Vegas series.

I left a comment after the game and I still believe, watching the big O goalie for Dallas that something is not quite right physically with him. I believe that it will be more evident in the next game. Just focus on his lack of quick responses. Especially with 2 ,5 hole goals
Canucks are my second favorite team & Pettersson is one of my favorite players..it’s tough watching him struggle. Not sure if it’s because of the playoffs & having less time & space. Maybe struggling with trying to figure that out or is it a confidence issue. Seemed like a good bit of the second half of the season he struggled. I don't know if it affected that series specifically, but I have to imagine having several hockey and basketball teams from the same cities in the 2nd round of both playoffs has caused some scheduling kinks. i.e. Rangers/Canes started before the 1st round ended; Stars/Avs started before Oilers/Nucks, giving Dallas 2 days rest, Edmonton 7, and Vancouver 5.
I don’t think that the fact that Vancouver hasn’t played well yet is a positive to be honest, if they don’t pick it up eventually their luck will run out or silovs will slip a bit and the oilers will have a blowout game. If pickard can stay at a .900 or above I don’t have much hope for the canucks
I think Dallas will close it out tonight.

I’m also not trying to insult the Canucks, I think what they have accomplished is impressive, and if they take out the Oilers, it’ll break my heart, but I will cheer for them in the conference finals.

I watch pretty much all avalanche games. The last 2-1/2 games they look like they have given up and are self sabotaging.... especially the best players. Passes are terrible, falling down a lot, looking completely disinterested on the bench. I like Dallas too, but are they really shutting these guys down that effectively? Or is something else going on? Like a sabotage from an employee spiking the Gatorade with bong water? Or the Mafia is making these players an offer they can't refuse....if you know what I mean? 😮😂

The Oilers have really been exposing the cracks in Vancouver's defense in this series. Vancouver is riding hard on getting "goalie" wins. Thats not a recipe for success in the playoffs. As Boston is also finding out this year.

Happy with the PWHL's success, happy people seem to WANT it to succeed, but some cracks are showing. They need more talent. And that's not something you fix from the top. Schools and younger leagues need to be looked at. I don't think it's once they reach the professional level that girls get discouraged from sports, I think it's when they are kids, from their parents, their schools. Right now, in terms of player talent pool, the PWHL simply cannot expand. MTL's team was playing short bench for essentially the last hour.... they didn't trust half of their team enough to put them on the ice. That's an issue. The problem before is that talent was diluted between two leagues, but now we have one concentrated league. And lack of talent still seems to be an issue. I don't think that's something you fix from the top.... that's something that needs to be fixed from the bottom. Schools, parents and minor hockey associations have to do a much better job at the teenage level, there are no efforts to that I can see to encourage sports to teenage girls, everyone seems, or at least says, they want to support female athletes but there seems to be 0 effort to create new ones. Star players don't happen by magic, they are trained and have passion at a young age. If girls aren't encouraged and pushed, how do we expect to fill the ranks of any female league?
