Fun fact. Toby Keith once stopped his concert and went up into the stands and grabbed a guy, had a few words with him, and then had him removed from the stadium. The guy was yelling nasty things and threw beer at the stage. Toby is big, and he really is a tough guy.

The first time I heard this, I agreed with you that he should have definitely helped his friend out, but after hearing it again, I realized that if his friend was hustling pool, then he got himself in trouble. The trouble didn't come looking for him. So once I realized that, then I was more forgiving of Toby not being keen on helping out in a bar fight.

Another good song by Toby is Don't Let The Old Man In. He was playing golf with Clint Eastwood when Clint said he was turning 88 the next week, and was directing as well as starring in a new movie. Toby asked how he keeps going and Clint said I just get up every day and don't let the old man in. So Toby used that to write a song, and Clint used it in his movie The Mule. Inspiration comes from anywhere!!

Country is not just the old twangy stuff. There’s a lot to it, crying in your beer songs; love songs; revenge songs; and quite a few with good humor. For the ladies, “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” by Big and Rich. Just plain funny, “I’m Going to Marry for Money” by Trace Atkins. Serious, patriotic, it’s like heart and soul. Very popular right now is Chris Stapleton, you choose. He’s country soul.

Good examples are Highwayman by the highwaymen (which is a group composed of basically the four most legendary country singers of the past century, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson). Also their covers of Ghost riders in the sky, a boy named sue, etc. Also, if you're not already familiar, John Denver's country roads, take me home is an all classic.
