Tobuscus | Fallen Titans #14

Ойын-сауық

Toby Turner. Tobuscus. The mind behind Nugget in a Biscuit, and... other things, surely? A force to be reckoned with, at least until he was suddenly missing in action. Today, in Fallen Titans, Quinton fights to remember why he decided to make a video about a person he cares so little about.

For those who don’t fully understand, Quinton’s point in “Even if Toby is ‘innocent’, have we really lost anything”, his point isn’t “his content isn’t good so it’s okay to ruin his life”, it’s “he still has a platform where he can make himself heard, AND he’s using that platform to make tired transphobic jokes”. His life isn’t actually “ruined” because he isn’t a mega-celebrity, and he’s probably still not some great innocent Angel.

I mean do I have to justify it? My then Boyfriend later said I shouldn't been "so aggressive" - When I said, that I had to because no one else (including him) did anything he said "I would have said something to him, but like, later, alone"- or some bullshit like this. Like WTF? why can't you say in front of everyone that that behavior is bad? Do you need to keep your "cool guy"-certificate or what? Sadly that wasn't that much of a red flag for me back then

Secondly, while I didn't finish reading the post, it's not so much "evidence" as nitpicking details to cast doubt on the story. None of the nitpicks are on their own substantial and they all have possible explanations. That's not "concrete evidence" that's conspiracy theory logic. If small incongruities are such a big deal, why isn't Toby massively contradicting himself about weather or not he was even in a relationship with her a big deal?

Chocolate Rain was the old internet's "This is America." A song that has a lot to say in its lyrics and in its performance about the state of the world around it, and yet most people got introduced to it expressly because people thought it was funny. Tay Zonday embraced the meme of it at the time, making commercials and so on while he was still in the lime light (no judgement, but doing stuff for Dr. Pepper is not exactly what the original song was about obviously), whereas the genius of "This is America" is that it not only expressly expected that response, but the song at least in part is about how that response is used to ignore and to mitigate the message of black performers, himself included. No one remembers Chocolate Rain as a song about systemic racism because it's a funny man moving away from the mic to breathe in. And a lot of people probably (especially at first) missed the point of "This is America" because it's a funny man doing wacky dances... all of which are taken directly from minstrel traditions.

@Cherry As an sexual assault victim myself, yes. I understand thay we never will know the truth behind a sexual crime, mostly because the nature of this type of crimes make them imposible to leave evidence behind, like i was abused for two years but the only thing that i have to back it up are my memories. For this reason when you look this situations you always are the possibility of being wrong, or you defend a women who is a liar and try to ruin a mens life, or you defend a rapist that already ruin this women life... you wil NEVER KNOW THE TRUTH. So is a personal choice decide with what mistake they can live... because whathever you choose to belive you are choosing to turn your back in the other side... for me, i cannot live knowing that i stand a rapist, i just cant. So yes, if you put it like that, yes im ok with ruining someones lifes, but you are ok with leave a rapist on the loose because you trust in a criminal system that has been proven to not work in sexual violence cases.

Thank you for talking about that last part with "There is no motivation to falsify allegations of SA" because it's something I've been afraid of when I think about my dad. I'm afraid of the people I know leaving me and not believing me and people online harassing me if I talk about the countless times my dad has molested and raped me as a child. Most of this fear is from the culture around blaming victims of SA, and also because my immediate family sided with my grand-uncle who raped my cousin. She went to court with him when she was 13 and my family said that I could never talk to or see her or her parents again. When I moved out I was able to reconnect with her and she told me that my grandfather told her she was never raped when she told him what happened when she was younger than 13 years old. What pains me even more is that I know my dad will never be convicted or even tried because the statute of limitations of rape is 5 years where it happened. It's just barely passed 5 years now since the most recent incident. If I come out and name him as a rapist and pedophile now, he will never serve time in jail, he will never personally suffer in any way, he will never feel the amount of pain he has inflicted onto me, and most people will choose to believe him over me because my diagnosed CPTSD isn't enough evidence to believe someone with a uterus who's barely an adult right now. The only thing I'll gain from outing him is that maybe he won't be hired somewhere just once because someone believed me.

What you went through is horrible and I'm genuinely sorry. The social stigma of immediately believing the man over the woman is disgusting and deeply-rooted societal issue that shouldn't have to even be something that has to be fought against. I do want to say though that there's more nuance to the issue of SA allegations than just "women are always lying" or "women are always telling the truth". Most allegations are indeed true, but false allegations do exist even if they're rarer, and the people making them have their motives for doing so.

It's strange to me that people (largely men) genuinely think that if a man has committed assault/rape, and is taken to court, that if he did it he'll be found guilty. That *isn't how things work*. Men are routinely given extremely minor sentences or are just given a "warning" when they're taken to court. It's actually pretty rare for men to be sentenced harshly for rape unless it's a chronic problem. It genuinely doesn't matter how much evidence you have. That's assuming the allegations go to court at all, which is also uncommon for various reasons.

Same shit happens when women are taken to court over sexual assault. I've known a few guys that were attacked, and their main fear if they come forward is being held as a monster for "attacking an innocent women" because people believe that they can't have been raped or attacked, because men "don't get erections" unless they like it.

Yeah, I told this one friend online who was also a fan of his about how there was evidence of him having a crackpipe on the background of one of his gaming videos. She didn't believe he was a drug addict but could see the accusations being right while for me it was reversed.

I met Tobuscus about a year ago at a convention. He was friendly and all but he was sort of off because of the fact that he hasn't changed. He still wears the same T-shirt, still has the sideburns, and still did the funny voices. This was funny back in 2012 but now it just seems tired. Same person, old act

You just don't understand the lyrical GENIUS that is required to write Nugget in a Biscuit 2. You see, "two biscuits" sounds like "Tobuscus", so it's like poetry, it rhymes.
