Toba is the largest eruption humans have ever witnessed... and here its story has been condensed down to a succinct 8 or so minutes. As far as I can tell, this is a pretty accurate description of the eruption, including, as it does, the resurgence of the caldera floor into the large island in the lake. My hat comes off in respect to the makers of this film: well researched and well written and presented, unlike some of the recent videos I've seen about volcanic and other natural disasters!

Tambora and Rinjani are both StratoVolcones as they built huge cones before their VEI 7’s. In Rinjaini’s case you can even see the newer cone developing which erupts frequently whereas because Tambora’s VEI 7 was much more recent there’s not as much rebuilding but unlike Rinjani (where only a portion of the cone got blasted off) the whole entire cone literally got blasted off

Fun fact: Toba's eruption was 3,000 times more powerful than Mount St. Helens and helens alone is thousands of times more powerful than Hiroshima

Pusuk Buhit (gunung berapi aktif tipe B, CVGHM) dan G. Sipisopiso di utara, serta lapangan panas bumi Aek Rangat (Pangururan) dan Batu Pintu (Simbolon-Palipi). Jadi untuk Pulau Samosir adalah hasil dari aktivitas magma setelah letusan Toba Supervolcano. I’m pretty sure with when it erupted there wasn’t even a giant cone like Mt Tambora for the ash etc to come out from. It was likely a huge resurgent dome (like today’s one that formed that island in the lake occupying the Caldera of this Super Volcano) that suddebly rose hundreds to thousands of meters suddenly and then blasting out all at once until all magma was used up

There is new evidence and analysis suggesting that this eruption occurred over just 15 hours. To be clear, it is not proven, and I'm not contradicting the author. The model of weeks also has good evidence to suggest it's correct. What we have learned recently is that volcanic winters caused by VEI-8s are of significantly shorter duration than previously suggested, 2 or 3 years rather than a decade. The channel GeologyHub has dedicated videos discussing Toba and most other known volcanoes.

If they could overrate an eruption, Toba should have been a VEI 9 along with Wah Wah Spring and La Garita.

It half is. It’s a Strato Volcano that’s got more power than average (most Strato’s only go to VEI 6) with just that 1 top vent (most have more than 1) which is why the entire cone literally got blasted off without any remnants left. It’ll rebuild over time from a new cone inside the Caldera formed but it will take hundreds of years

@@orryn3660 I’ve seen the image and it can’t be at 2/3rd’s of its original height. The whole cone collapsed to the 60 km wide base area and it was a little over 4300 meters before the eruption. You need to watch GeoglyHub

This video is somewhat out dated. There were no "crops" 74,000 years ago as agriculture had yet to be developed. While the population based in the relative area was likely disseminated the population in equatorial areas around the world recovered quickly and the old "bottleneck" theory of less than 10,000 human survived has been largely discounted. It was a terrible eruption and caused massive damage but not a massive die off like the Dino asteroid impact or the Permian Extinction.
