Toasty Tips for Storyboard Pro

Фильм және анимация

Whew!! Tutorials are not my usual thing!! But they're doing a fun thing at work where they ask employees to offer art tips, and this was something I felt secure talking about lol
Storyboard Pro is what I use to make storyboards at work and at home (which are now the same thing). These tips fall somewhere between the complete basics and the more complex functions of the program; basically, they're time-savers I wish I'd known when I started using it. If you've never even played with the program, this might all just seem confusing. And honestly, even if you HAVE used SBP, I'm sure there'll be a decent amount of pausing the video to keep up. @v@
I used SBP to make this, but it's not a great example of the boarding work you can do in the program, so...
Here's a storyboard video I made in SBP: • Escape from Divinity |...

    For a long time working as a revisionist I’ve seen boarders being careless with layer name consistency and blaming that to lack of time. Now I am a storyboarder and I can safely affirm those excuses were pure bullshit. It is perfectly possible to work while keeping the layers organized. Actually, it is essential. Anyone who works on the same file further on will be thankful.

    So, Harmony Essentials is an animation program, while Toon Boom Storyboard Pro is for boards! Typically they're supposed to work together--doing boards in SBP and animation in Harmony--so I don't know why you'd switch from one to the other? Unless you've been boarding in Harmony, in which case I can definitely say SBP is preferable for that haha

    yeah, no more photoshop! I think the last thing I made with that was actually the Church animatic, and it was such a pain in the butt...for such big projects, it's so much better working in SBP! I do also have Harmony, but if I'm being honest, I prefer Clip Studio Paint for animation and just, like...art generally. Photoshop is a garbage fire comparatively on both fronts. >.>

    Hey do you know how to turn up volume when adding sound clips?

  • @EmptyFeet

    @EmptyFeet

    3 жыл бұрын

    yeah! so, if you look at the sound clip in the timeline, there's a line running through the middle of the soundwaves. if you hold down the option key (that's on mac, but I'm sure if you have a PC you can find the equivalent with a little experimentation) and click the line, it'll create a node that you can drag up and down to change the volume! you can also add multiple nodes to create, like...volume keyframes, so if you need something to fade out you can add one at full volume and another at mute. hope that helps!

  • @dandeelion8777

    @@EmptyFeet thank you is there also away to speed up the frame rate so the panels look more animated?

  • @EmptyFeet

    @EmptyFeet

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@dandeelion8777 okay, so, this is a little hard to explain, but storyboard pro files (and most professional animations) already automatically play at 24 fps, meaning that if I make a panel that lasts half a second, it holds for twelve frames. it's not a matter of "speeding up the frame rate", just of drawing more panels that last less time (which is all animation is anyway).

I use flipa clip right now, which is great for beginner's in basic movement and the free music recording part since I'm very influenced in my ideas by music, but its lacking the more advanced tools I could use.
