    Cool stuff. I use an Esbit set that works with solid fuel or alcohol and it works pretty well (www.amazon.com/Esbit-CS985HA-Lightweight-Trekking-Anodized/dp/B001UEL76Q). But temperatures here in Italy is not that low ;)

    I have the original Snow Peak solo mini cookset, I love it. It nests all together with a 40oz Klean Kanteen, I ended up getting the 2nd gen, as well as the SNOW PEAK TREK 700 to nest with the other 40oz klean kanteen. I pulled the trigger on 2-450 ml toaks as well as the 750ml with no bail.. I needed to replace those stainless steel GSI nesting cups(They are now in my kit for my car) and I needed to get decent cook sets

    Just ordered this 1.600 ml. cookware kit and you have just reassured me that I made a good purchase. I was looking for a kit large enough to fit my Tentock Camping Cookware Outdoor Windproof Cooking Pot Stove Set inside of it. I just don't like the idea of cooking in aluminum cookware for health's sake. I plan on only throwing the stove portion inside of it and cooking in the Toaks 1,600 ml. titanium cookware. This way, I increase the cooking capacity, all the while using a safe cooking metal while still keeping everything in a compact unit. The light weight isn't the reason I bought this set, but that's just icing on the cake. Since I won't be using the pot part of the Tentock cookware, I'll be able to store all my fire starting gear inside of the larger titanium pot as well as some other odds and ends. Frankly, I'm surprised the price for such a large titanium pot and pan set isn't much higher. From the looks of it, I'll be able to use the Tentock stove with the included alcohol burner, or as a wood burning stove which would give me more options.

    Toaks also makes a Ti wood gasifier stove. I nest the 450ml cup inside the stove inside the 1100ml pot with lid and bail inside the 1600ml pot with bail and the pan with the 1600's lid under the pot. But I decide how much of that to leave before I go. They also make an 8"± (20cm) plate which could double as a frying pan using Mike McQ's improvised stick-handle.

  • @FlashGeiger
    @FlashGeiger9 жыл бұрын

    I use an Esbit 750 Ti cup/pot. Except for the bail it looks identical to the Toaks, to the point where I suspect they are made from the same dies in the same factory somewhere. The only thing I miss with it is the lack of measurement markings. I dealt with that by putting small notches in the side of the handle of the spoon I carry. One notch for every 200ml. (when stuck in bowl side up)

    Living Survival It's odd that the feature I like best is the shape of the handle. When drinking hot beverages, that bend in the bottom to hold your third finger means being able to enjoy your coffee without having to worry about burning your knuckles if you relax your grip. Silly, I know, but it's just comfortable to drink with.

  • @Ronald_Jon
    @Ronald_Jon6 жыл бұрын

    An easier way to cook your eggs is to boil some water (snow), which you did, break your eggs (leave whole or scramble) into a heavy duty freezer bag and then lower the bag into the boiling water. They cook pretty quickly and there's no mess. Simply rinse the bag out with the leftover water and reuse. You can also use this method with chopped vegetables, either raw or cooked (softened), scramble some eggs or put them in whole and mix them in the bag by stirring the ingredients or sealing the bag and shaking, put bag into boiling and cook. Instant omelette.

    I like that pot with the pan. But I wish they made that model with a bail handle. I don't carry a stove box. I grew up not using one, and they just seem gimmicy to me. I can save pack weight by making an open fire and hanging my pot over it. I'm a bushcrafter, and I often pack "tool heavy", but I try to save weight wherever possible. Carrying a stove is just pointless to me, living up in the north where no one cares if you build an open fire.

  • @livingsurvival

    +IamNemoN01 You are lucky, many places will not allow open fires so a wood stove is as close as you can get.

    +Living Survival Yeah, in upper Mass and Vermont you can build open fires in most places. And where I camp/bushcraft it would be too much of a hike/hassle for forest rangers or police to get to me, lol. I'll eventually break down and buy an alcohol stove or fire box for my Go Bag in case I HAVE TO go to an area where they don't permit open fires. I'm thinking of getting a titanium pot that will fit over my normal pot, and turning it into a stove (drilling holes in it and all). But being able to put my normal cooking pot inside, it won't take up any more pack space.

    +Living Survival awesome, I've found the video and watched it, looks great. I'm currently building a cooking set up, but cannot afford any brand names (when added together the whole set up would usually surpace the $150 mark) so I've done some online searches and found a few pieces of chinese kit, bought a woodgas stove, alcohol stove and 2 pot set for less than $35, they are compact but not light, will be testing everything out when they arrive in the mail.

    Daniel Sultana, I bought a Chinese woodgas stove for £16.00 against the UK brand name stoves for £50. It took an age to arrive, they had used the cheapest transport, but arrive it did, and is every bit as good as the branded version.

    +gamesbok wow my Original comment is close to a year old, I did buy the Chinese knockoff version and am very happy to own the set, the stove when stowed in its stuff sac fits perfectly inside the smaller pot of the two pot set added a fork, knife, spoon set, a lighter, a matchbox and a little tinder and I have a complete cooking system fitted inside a cook set. The only way I could have been happier for the money paid would have been if the pot stand allowed for feeding the fire while cooking.

    You did not show filling the pot with snow... DID you add water to the pot before filling it with snow? To all noobs, always add a little water to your pot before you add the snow for melting. Snow will scorch if you don't.

    what is the proper way to dispose of the bacon grease etc, when out in the woods. I don't want to lug it around then home but I don't want to contaminate the environment either. Thank you

    King of heroes, do you have enough titanium? For the regular Joe, I think just one cup or set of titanium cookware is enough; if you're not actually cooking with it, it's just a super expensive drinking cup. I get that you're an enthusiast showing off the products, and you wouldn't bring all this on a single trip :-)

    A bushbox XL I really like them, was going to buy one, but couldn't bring myself to drop £70 on it especially with the minimal use it would see, but any way it is a bushbox XL you can easily find them on Amazon :)

    Frying an egg on anything non-stick is a pain in the butt. How'd the Titanium fare as far as "Stickage"? I'm assuming you used the bacon grease for the eggs..because..yum.. :-D

    Titanium is stupid. Aluminum is lighter, conducts heat much better than titanium and is very much cheaper. As PT Barnum said, "There is a fool born every second". Using stainless steel as 1.0 standard. Titanium weighs .6lb and aluminum weighs .4lb Of the 3, titanium conducts heat most poorly, then stainless steel. By far the best heat conductor is Aluminum. Just look up the true data and dump the BS and hype.

    Ok,,, what EXACTLY is titanium and how much “titanium” content in a pan does it take to be called titanium?? 10% wool in a pair of socks is enough to be called wool socks.
