To the old Lantau Island in 1950 舊香港
On my first holiday in HK I took a ferryboat to Sham Shek Tsuen and was transported ashore by sampan. Then followed an hours long arduous climb to the Po Lin Shi monastry where I arrived in moonlight. The monastry has changed so much that it is unrecognizable now.
I have also a video clip on KZread of the film I took there.

Wow...that's so precious!!!
I reconigze every places, each mountain, each rock and small river
Thanks a lot! The old Lantau is really beautiful!
Incredible films that are truly time capsules. It's so fascinating viewing everyone. Thank you so much.
Thanks again. Great chance to view those seaward area, outlying Island.
I appreciated. These pictures let me see the old beautiful peak lantau.
Mr. Rogge, I appreciate.
She is as old as I am !
There are still many wild cattle on those hills, the descendants of those cows! I have walked all over Lantau with my father. We lived in Discovery Bay, Lantau, from 1990-2004. For a long time the Po Lin monastery has been busy due to the Big Buddha statue and tourists!
@huwingcheng . I do not recall that chair services on the island were available in the early fifties. At any rate we would not have used them (I never did) as we loved to walk instead, although to Po Lin Shi monastry it was quite a climb arriving in moonlight!
Amazing video, a piece of history, and the beautiful background music.
I remembered on top of Lantau Island, there are some cement houses and a swimming pool. When I was a small boy I had seem some Kwailos being carried to the top of Lantau Island with chair. (1 person carried a chair on each ends) That is what they called Summer Vacation.
