To survive a year alone in the Wild forest of SIBERIA: to build a log cabin like my ancestor
This video is about my life in a simple cabin in the forest, which I built as a shelter among the vast taiga.

if you get 5 ft underground, it STAYS 50F degrees, year round. No need of firewood.. In mountainous terrain, of course you can't dig that deep. however 3 ft undeground keeps temps above freezing in winter, if you are insulated with debris and keep the shelter small. You want it small anyway, so as to minimize the work required to create that shelter and to minimize the risk of being killed if the shoring collapses. In a month, you can scrape up enough dirt to make a mound that's 6 ft high, 20 ft long, and 10 ft wide, Then tunnel into the mound. Not having to emerge to cut, haul and process firewood, not having to leave that 'sign" and have smoke giving away your location, is well worth the work needed to have the dugout shelter.

Doesn't that only apply to areas without permafrost ?

@@krulerwest-oz7364 permafrost can be dealt with, by means of fire, hot rocks, hot water. a bit at a time. Mounding up dirt that you've scraped up eliminates the permafrost problem. you can avoid the need of tunneling into the mound by creating a split -log framework. cover the log frame of a "tunnel" small Od poles and debris, so that your first layer of dirt doesn't just fall thru your frame work. Dampen and stomp down each 1" thick layer of dirt as you add it to the mound/framework, so as to compact it enough to not fall thru later, when the small poles have rotted away and only the big logs remain. You can probably get away with having just a 6" thick layer of compacted dirt, 2 ft of dry debris and then another 6" thick layer of compacted dirt. Every few years, tho, youll have to replace the debris, which will of course rot. The lots will rot, too, if not treated or not being cypress or cedar logs. I'd say that for safety's sake, when you need to replace the debris, it would be best to also replace the logs, This means build a new mound from scratch, so to speak. Cabins can be shot thru, burned, turn up by tornados, etc, So nothing's perfect.
Very nice tidy homestead. Where did you get that fresh vegetables and green herbs? What kind of energy do you use to get electricity. Greetings from Italy ❤🎉

Stupid question possibly but why is the roof section open like that?

For what it's worth I don't think this is a stupid question. I'd like to know about the roof design too.
many hate the idea of being confined in a tunnel, but the Viet Cong did so for 30 years, while fighting first the Japanese, then the French and then the USA. You only need the tunnel-mound for the winter and nothing says that you have to STAY where it's cold, other than perhaps for your first winter of shtf. i dont see any reason to continue fighting the cold, having to cut, haul and process firewood. on and on and on. Sheesh.
