To Skatepark Or Not To Skatepark: The Ultimate Dilemma

Ойын-сауық

You see it all the time, an expensive RC getting busted at the skatepark. Is it wrong to test the duribility of any RC at a skatepark? Do you do it? More importantly, SHOULD you do it? Lets chat about it. Its not for everyone, but sometimes it can be so worth it! Come watch the Xmaxx get sent so you can scratch that itch.

Some good points covered. Maybe you see my community post/poll recently about the same topic. If not out of 523 votes 37% Approve of these durability tests, 52% Didn't approve and 11% Had alternative opinions. Like I mentioned I have no problem with people enjoying their trucks the way they want to but it starts getting to me when channels label something as bad after a bad landing on concrete. Automatically the RC is Trash and written off! Completely unfair as there are many factors to consider not just durability. I also think it can be a bad image for the younger generation who watch some of those send to the moon type videos and think its normal to treat stuff in this way. I'm not one to make blanket requests which all channels should follow. I fully support other channels do as they please but its not something I will support on my channel anymore. I think its an unfair test to label an RC as bad after smashing it about at a skatepark. I know more than half of my audience dont approve so I wont be doing those types of vids and the other 37% have more than enough channels out there who do that stuff so they can go watch them :) . I wont follow the crowd just for the views or just because everyone else is doing it so its must be right! KZread is about being individual, getting your own voice heard and backing yourself all the way which is why I am always more than happy to speak out and voice my opinion which a lot of people have grown to enjoy about me. Nothing against you or anyone else bro just my personal opinion that i wanted to voice and so glad quite a few people agreed me with (Proof im not making a fuss for no reason). I hope you have a successful 2024 and its good to see you are steadily on your way to 20k! Enjoy man 💯😎👍

So 272 people don't approve, not really solid evidence and not half your audience. My kids used to watch Wrestling (as did I), but never once did they jump off the top rope at school and elbow drop their class mate because they saw others doing it lol. If a Kid takes their RC Car to a skate park and smashes it up, it's their fault... nobody else's :)

@TomleyRC Its an unfair test a lot of the time and lots agree with me regardless of numbers on that poll so no need to make it petty haha. Its just my opinion please dont be offended by this. Like mentioned above just because I have my reasons to be against it doesn't mean I expect everyone to be in agreement. Everyone carry on as normal haha! Everything okay mate? You seem stressed. I’ve been in the hobby about a year and a half. Relatively Zero experience in anything automotive. I started rc’ ing with the help of KZreadrs like yourself. So many videos of everyone sending rc cars. I quickly built a ramp (using techniques from your video) and sent my wl toys 12428 and my Holyton brushed 1/12th Amazon special. They both broke instantly. My spirit was crushed. I started to question if the hobby was for me. After reflecting I realized like you at the start of this video that sending your rc at a skatepark or a crazy ramp is simply a waste of money (at least for beginners). For me the life lesson learned was risk and reward. With this mentality I can find a healthier balance to my driving and Ive grown more in love with the hobby day by day. Anyway thanks so much for the awesome video and overall great work you do 👍✌🏼

Dude I’m with you! I almost always mention that I’m too hard on my RCs and that others don’t need to be, but tests like this are an excellent indicator of what might break for them. I always mention the dangers of cold too. Awesome job! I made a bad purchase as my very first “expensive” RC because the videos I watched were too easy on it. No good skateparks by me so I make use with ramps and curbs 🤣🤣. I think hard bash channels are useful, and I think soft bash channels are useful. All comes down to what you want to watch! So just before I did a bunch of upgrades on my Kraton 4S I took it to a skate park and bashed it until it was in pieces. Knowing it was about to get completely torn down and reassembled anyway. That session was the most fun I'd ever had in all my RC adventures. So I do believe that skateparks CAN serve a purpose for the hobby.

Park bashing is definitely an assumed risk. To me it was obvious from watching Talbot that things were gonna break no matter how much you spent on them so dont take anything you dont mind destroying. This is the whole reason I have some little HBX's. Theyre durable enough and cheap enough that a complete demolition isnt too painful

It also varies on cars. If your sending On-Roads like Monster Trucks. It’s literally abusing the car. Or jumping a Crawler at 10ft. Every car has a limit no matter the circumstance. Most Badgers pretty much are able to conquer these Parks. But if you sending a Bandit like a X-Maxx. It’s abusing it.

It was cold (not -10 but cold), and my 6s Kraton EXB survived 90% of it... and I'd say i was sending it harder than you were in your vid. Its always the "just one mores" that getcha! Just this one more jump and ill pack it up! 😅 In my case i landed wrong off a jump and broke the rear bulkhead...hahaha. That said, very well articulated breakdown on skate parks. Great points all around. Generally, my rule is it either has to have a ton of suspension travel and wheels and tires to back it up and or be cheap enough that I don’t care if it breaks, because we know it will at this point. The two cars I will take to a skate park are the Arrma Gorgon and the Grom both built to handle big jumps, and overall very durable and inexpensive to fix. The first five or 10 minutes I usually spend trying to do fun technical stuff and then when I know the batteries are getting close I will usually try to go for big air knowing that I’m about to pack up 😂

First thing you need too know about rc cars, they break...no matter if it's on a skate park or a carpet track. I am personally not a big fan of skate parks but some light bashing is fun with the right car. For testing i prefer rough terrain, a 1:5 scale of road track or a bmx track. On a skate park the car will brake no matter what, especially the youtuber testing way lol But yeah it's your choice how to enjoy the car, either by caging it behind glass or sending it to the moon.

Anyway almost every KZreadr I’ve seen at skateparks mentions, multiple times that they don’t recommend it and it isn’t normal or that they are doing it to see what it takes to break it…for science 😁…and i say this as a noob who has already experienced an rc not matching the performance i witnessed on KZread. Fast forward to now and I still bash at skateparks, but with a little less vigor than the days of ole. They don't have to be death sentences for rc's, and I think you showed that in this video. I actually just made a video on the topic are KZreadrs ruining the hobby. Not exactly what you pointed out but fairly close. I think too many too the moon channels and total carnage are scaring people from the hobby like you said there are limitations and if you drive it normal for the most part its going to last you dont have to launch them 50 ft in the air to have fun and you dont need a ton of m2c parts, a new esc and bigger motor to run and have fun. They are already expensive and capable out of the box if you want to launch them except it will break and maybe you need more gears or a esc for air control but its not needed to go have fun. Go have fun thats what it as all about dont let carnage channels scare you.

Skate parks are silly, at least for people who do not live and breath RC. we treat RC as fun a few times a month, we are not experts and we don't want to be. Its all bout racing around and having fun. If we start "sending" our cars into orbit to come crashing down on a concrete surface they will break, no doubt. Why would you do that? What is the point of doing that? The only reason skate parks are on you tube is click bait, nothing more. Its difficult to find a location to run RC's that is not a skate park that looks exciting/interesting to watch on a small screen. So, leave the costly RC nonsense to the you tubers who do this for a living, for everyone else leave the skate parks alone and your wallet will thank you.
