It's a great stable car. very important to lighten it as much as possible and then it's competitive yet VERY durable compared to other cars. I raced mine for 2 seasons

it's great to see you do a deep dive into a non "top tier" car. id love to see a skilled racer run a bunch of cars (all set up properly and with choice of tyres) and compare best lap times from a series of laps on the same track / conditions with each car. it's very rare that someone can out drive their car compared to how common it is for someone to buy the absolute best and not then really drive very well, with the better car making up for some of their shortcomings.

Buggy doesn’t look bad out there. It’s good to see some diversity on the track.

great video man, one advantage that the tlr typhon has is that if arrma can keep this car in this version for the eternity, you know you'll have part support any time in the future, big brands make revisions and updates to buggies and that means parts changes and your kit holds no value and you won't find parts for it, that's why Traxxas slash is so reliable. it has been the same for 15+ years

Ive raced this car for a few years now, prior to this it had been a few years since i predominantly switched ro 10th scale. Ive ran most brands, and my clapped out mugen was ready to be retired, so i picked this up. My home track is hoosier hobbyplex, an extremely high grip indoor track. With a bit of a driver mod(going on 20 years of racing), it is quite capable. We dont have much 8th scale support but around here its hard to find a shop that doesnt have arrma parts well stocked and that sold me. For people interested in racing give it a try! Just grab a couple packs of diff gaskets a o rings for the shocks also and go enjoy racing. Ps: Kevin Tran is one of the only other people giving good advice in the facebook groups as most of the community are bashers who i dont think take racers advice very well!

Extremely important video, I'm glad someone who actually races finally made a video on this rig. The TLR Typhon is a great car, but its only major difference vs the 6s Typhon is the chassis, shocks, and arms. I think they're a good entry level car if you're still very on the fence with racing, but you really want to race, put the money in a more certified platform like Tekno or Associated.

the TLR typhon also has hinge pin adjustments with the pill inserts whereas the 6s just has centered holes at its ABCD blocks

I bought my son and I the Losi 8ight RTR’s and they’ve been awesome. Full stock other than topping off diffs and lock tighting every thing we finished 6th and 7th out of 10 at our local track for our first ever RC race. Needless to say I spent 1,250 on 2 cars and some racers spent over 3 grand on there kits cars that we either beat or nearly beat.

Great video! I bought my TLR Typhon on a great sale through Amain to dip my toe into 8th scale racing. I have never driven another 8th scale buggy though so I have no idea where to start on tuning. This video definitely gave me a great starting point. I can attest to the durability of this as I have crashed this buggy way harder than any of my RC’s multiple times and I have only slightly cracked my wing. I always watch your videos when they drop, keep up the good work.

I’ve had my Typhon TLR for about a year now, I have spent time and money to reduce the weight on this car. I’ve shedded 1.5lbs over stock, I use the Hobbywing Xerun pro G3 and the Hobbywing 1900kv motor which reduced the weight quite a bit on top of other weight loss items. All I can say the car is much more snappy and is plenty fast on a 17T pinion and doesn’t get too warm. Very happy so far! Thank you for the video, look forward to seeing you race it!

To be honest, the Serpent RTR, as long as you don't crash, can hang with the Top Kits. That's how good it is.

Great review Roach I'm already a fan of your videos but came across the link Kevin posted on the tlr typhon fb group. Kevin steered me in the right direction when I first scooped this roller up. Im running the same 1515 combo. It's summer in NJ and we run on an outdoor diy woods track with a little elevation change. The 16tooth was running hot so I dropped to 13tooth and it's good now. Still has a pretty wicked top speed even geared down. Roach, your videos on the history of different companies are great too

i race a kraton 6s in the truggy class. the only changes i can remember making are all the fluid, shocks and diffs. its a bit harder to drive than a tekno tuggy but i do alright and best of all im having tons of fun with something i already owned. i just had to buy a transponder, tires and wheels for a total of $200 which any race level car would need anyways

I've yet to race my tlr typhon but I regulary run it on open practice days. Every time there were multiple other buggies run with. All the tlr rtyphon really needs to hang with any other buggy is a complete fluid change and some good tires. The track I run is very bumpy so my setup leans to the softer side but I currently run. Front shocks : 6 hole tapered optional pistons, 35wt oil, Tekno Green front springs Rear shocks: 8 hole tapered stock piston, 35wt oil, Stock spring Ride height: 25mm front / 27mm rear Diff Fluid F 7k / M 5k / R 3k Rear camber -3.5 Front Camber -3 Increased front caster by moving 1mm shim from the back of the upper arm to the front.

Thank you for making a video on the typhon. I have slowly modded my TLR. Mugen center shafts and AE cvd shafts on all four corners. Oils in the diffs and shock oil as well. Also went larger on some of the piston shock oils and Durango front lighter springs. Lighter sway bars.

For the cvd I had to use the stock arrma outer . The pin is different size and binds the bearings. Also bought front outers and used for the rears. RC8 B3.2 for the cvd Mugen seiki center shafts E2260/MUGE2262 115mm and 84.5mm On the 84.5mm I recommend to grind some on the outer ball to get some clearance when the chassis flexes. Did it to mine and no issues. The center shafts swap saved 13 grams of weight and the cvds 30grams total all four of weight savings

Hi Roach, just have to say mate that I love your RC content. I love the attention to detail and the way you articulate your thoughts/videos, it's a real pleasure to watch and listen. I'm 50 and am thinking of taking up racing for the first time here south of Sydney. I bought an Associated RC8 3.1e back in 19 that's yet to get its tyres dirty. ( I have a Kraton and 3 Corally cars for weekend fun) Watching you channel definitely gives me great info to take on board. Keep up the awesome work , cheers..

Ive always thought this car was a better racer than basher. I just has the right amount of adjustments for dialing the car into the track conditions arguably better than the competition. And that it’s tough on top of the adjustments makes it an all around good option. The downside is that most tracks, area dependent, probably won’t carry the parts needed for the car vs the competition for things that may break in a race, so sticking up on extras is probably smart. Great video. Thanks
