Mt first 4x4 was a new 1982 FJ40, same color as this one, purchased in Texas. One of the best vehicles I ever owned and it was a sad day when i had to sell. I've followed your channel for years for you have captured the essence of the FJ40 in your work. Thanks for everything you do and for sharing these videos of your art.
great restoration. My dad bought a new FJ40 in 1965 in Safford Arizona. At the time Toyota didn't have any dealerships in the area and Toyota's were bought at gas stations etc. Ours was bought at a shell station I believe it was and off of a brochure as none were stocked. Dad paid like 2600.00 for it and the rig was amazing. They did get fancier through the years but ours done what it was designed to do, be an offroad go anywhere rig and that is what it done superbly. It was the same color as this one you are showing, 3 on the tree, 2 levers for 4x4 and a little heater between the seats to heat the back area. Learned how to drive in that rig when I was about 10 years old, still wished I had it.
More of these please, love the individuality along with all your knowledge!
I love the work you guys do. I have fond memories of the FJ40 riding in my dad's as a kid. I'm couldn't tell you how many times I read the shift instructions on the glove compartment door or almost stuck my fingers in the rear heater. :) I may never be able to have an Icon or TLC restoration but there are two FJ40s waiting if so. Thanks for keeping them alive.
man- love your touch on the restoration, Jonathan. Original where it can and should be, updated where it's not obscene and makes sense (headlights, stainless screws/nylon washers, etc.) Smart!
Would love to see more of your TLC 4x4 work here!
Awesome. One of the best vids to date Jonathan. Thank you for taking the time to provide some insight from all of your experience.
Great vid! Just started my interest in FJ40’s and this shined a whole lotta light into the the vehicle! Thanks!
I love the channel! I am restoring a 1977 FJ40 with my 13 year old son. We just started a KZread channel and are learning a TON!! Thanks for the cool vids and motivation!!
I just got an 82 in rough exterior shape, but mechanically sound, 2F rebuilt! I use this video to compare to when I want to know what's right and what's not. Thanks for all the videos!
Outstanding vehicle as usual. Watching and dreaming. I have decided (when I win the lottery) I want a TLC vehicle instead of an Icon. Now I just need to win the lottery - lol.

Wow never knew your story awesome too by the way thanks for sharing and bringing these oldies back better than ever 👌🏾
Beautiful vehicle. Excellent and informative video. Your passion and attention to detail shines through.
truly admire the effort you put into these restorations. For most of my life I have tried to update my vehicles. As a teenager, I installed an eight track in my 1965 Chevy Biscayne. Later, I saw how a bar-buoy drink holder could allow me to safelyplace my canned drinks in front of me on the dash. I was rarely content with stopping with these mods, but your vision and risk makes my heart swell with encouragement to go further. My current obsession is a 1987 Suzuki Samurai. I hope your focus on restoration is rewarded handsomely so it will continue inspire us all.
Thanks, very nice fj 40. A beautiful edition to anyones garage. Wish it was mine.👍
Perfection at it's best. Pure bliss. Superb work Jonathan. Best regards from the Philippines.
Great work, I am a big fan. I hope you are able to pass your wealth of knowledge and workmanship/skills to the next generation as people like you are a rarity. well done video. please keep it up.
Your level 3 restoration is the best in the planet. Great job!
Great! Very informational and knowledgeable. Thanks
thank you man for your wonderful presentation and your nice car. Today i'm 51 years old and living in Sweden since 21 year. I hade an identical car like yours when i was 20 years old and i lived at that time in my lovely homeland Kurdistan. When i saw your car i felt happy and sad too because of you reminded me my first car .
You do good work, Jonathan. I had you do some work on my 1977 FJ-55 many years ago (You were in Van Nuys then). Even though you advised me to buy the '72 you had on hand. 15 years later I'm still working to get mine up to par. $23-K was cheap! I don't know what I was thinking.
I love the things you do Jonathan. Please keep it up.
Beautiful respiration I used to have a FJ 40 back in 1982 when I was in high school like an idiot I sold it and I have always wanted another one the rest of my life. That is one of the most beautiful Toyota Land Cruiser I have ever seen. That thing is gorgeous.
This Guy knows how to Restore Land Cruisers the Right way I myself have done a few Land Cruisers 20yrs ago when you could still get all new OEM Parts this Guy does it Right good on him, he's a Perfectionist like myself. ROCK ON !!
Gorgeous restoration! I’ve wanted one for 45 years

I've owned my FJ-40 for 46 years!
That was so amazing man, the fj40 is my favourite car ever and it is my dream to own one, one day. I loved this video because you know so much about them. 👍🏼
Very good restoration! beautiful
I will pick one of these up on Saturday and WILL gladly pay you NEXT Tuesday. Great job.
thank you for your time God bless you.
amazing... just beautiful machines.. great work
I own a 67 FJ40 and it's a driver+. This baby is over the top Congratulations!
I've never known much about these vehicles, so it's great to learn from a subject matter expert. You have a nice matter-of-fact delivery, with the exception of the (humorous) "DON'T get the aftermarket weather stripping!" (That made me chuckle.) l While $100k is a hell of a lot, your expertise and thoroughness justifies itself. Your departures from original are all well justified and usually in the interest of longevity. Even though I'm a Jeep fan, I love the dual doors of the FJ. And Toyota inline sixes are phenomenal engines. Again, thanks for sharing this gem of a vehicle. Obviously, it promotes your company, but it's also very entertaining and informative. You guys also do the 1940's Dodge Power Wagons, right? Those are fantastic. (Again, if I win the Powerball, I'll come to you for a CJ-7, FJ43 and a Power Wagon.)
Thanks for sharing this video, very nice.
Wow! Awesome video! Good job on the resto and on the rundown.. I have 3 fj40s . '69, '71 & '76. I've always loved them, way more than jeep. But I like the newer jeeps. ..cuz they have those tapered hoods, like fj40 lol
Beautiful. My Dad owns one. Twas a 1967 TLC. he bought in 71.Original color was orange but was repainted apple green. Fond memories of it.
Excellent video and info. Cheers
This takes me back to my youth. 1969 took a road trip out west and my friends uncle had a 68 LC. Three speed on the column and the 4wd shifter was mounted on the dash. She would do 90 all day long and held 8 or 9 quarts of oil. Noisy as all get out, bare bones, but rugged to the hilt.
many thanks for taking the time to do this vid
Great overview Jonathan!
20 years I must be getting old remember when you started, First time I saw one of your fj40/ICON builds I took about 5 or 6 things and applied them to my fj40. and you keep getting better and improving the process all the time... and for those that bitch about what it costs try and do what he does cheaper. I have no idea how many man hours I have in each of my fj40's but its an insane number and they are no where near and nice as these.. You found the holy grail doing something you love, making a living and providing a product people love.. Keep going...... Would just love to be able to buy some of the parts you use. I understand why you don't as dealing with that market can be a total pain and not real profitable... With digital printing and other techs hopefully, you can figure a way to lower the cost and make them marketable... Think about using someone like Summit racing or another outlet for a ICON line of products. I know they won't be cheap but love the quality and creativity.. Ohh it took me a while to find a set of sun visors like your ICON's run but its one of the best mods.... if you could market them at a reasonable price point .... they were $$$$$$$ but they rock. Good luck and thanks for improving and making classic cars/4x4's even better.....
I like my 1965 FJ40 thank you very much. Yes older but like a fine wine. It's a California native but it's been all the way to Peru and back - twice. Bone stock and at the time we got her $1000.00. C U out there.
One of your best and informative videos.
Hey Men, excellent restouration more ditails, great Job 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

have you bought one yet
Video quality of video is Great. Thanks.
I was lucky enough to have started my career at a Toyota dealership in early 80's. Beautiful truck! I am a Jeep owner now but ONLY because you can't buy a new FJ40 and i love that 2 door classic look. With all the advancements in technology if they only still made them today.
If I could afford to, I’d be a repeat customer to talc or icon, I love his trucks. All of them!
Drone work is getting to the genius level
Love the fj. !!!
WoW, Beautiful Love the FJ 40 👍💓
Your work is of breath taking quality .
by far this one is 100% much beutiful and better restored then all the others on KZread.
Congrats to me finally I made my dream 💭 come true I bought 1980 fj40 it need ton of restoration on the body and paint but the engine f2 restored and transmission is very good I love ❤ this car 🚗 very much
Lovely work - just superb
A lot of useful information ; thanks !
Mate, you're a freak. Your knowledge of this vehicle is awesome. I don,t think ill get one now...I wont be able to give mine as much love as it will need. I don't have the skills nor the money. Thanks for the great video though, tremendous presentation.
Very nice work! A little expensive $ 100K.....but you get what you pay for.....attention to detail...perfection!
Thank you so very much for the most informative video yet on the FJ40. I’m currently in the market but cannot afford anything already restored. If I can find one it would be my fourth. First an old pickup FJ40 model whose number evades me, then a 1990 followed by a 2001. Looking for a simpler vehicle that allows me to work on it as well as play. Thanks again.
Very Good video on a proper restoration. You bring good light on a factory restoration with some added perks to the vehicle. All which can be reversed and not lose authenticity. You also bring a good point on the cost of restorations at this level. I am currently working on a '72. It would not make a good candidate for a Stage 3 restoration. I am however making it a resto-mod. Trying to keep what is original together, but also not fretting if something steers away from original because of costs or scarce parts. I think keeping a budget in mind is a important factor in a restoration. One can get either overwhelmed with keeping it pure or in too deep money wise. Great job on your restorations. I understand how much work goes into a proper restoration and you do a good job with the details!
Wow.....Amaizing Cars. It is my dreams!!! Great !!!! Thanks. I am cuban citizen .
Nice review , thanks
You sir make some awesome toys!
👍nice review!
@ICON What’a BEAUTIFUL RESTORATION !! I know this post is 5 years old now, but I still have a couple quick questions. 1.) How long did this project take? (start to finish/selling point) 2.) How much did this specific FJ sell for? (Final sold price) KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! I look forward to watching more of your videos. Great content, with thorough explanations & info-details. Very helpful. 🤙🏽
This is BEAUTIFUL 😍😍😍
Beautiful truck.
amazing videos
A bona fide automotive _gem_ !!!💓👌⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Beautiful and worth it.
Thanks for keeping the America consumers well informed! Here in Miami a lot of people are bringing the Colombian and Brazilian Bandeirante and asking high numbers for them just cus they look similar and branded Toyota but there’s no comparison to the USA market except that the Bandeirante has four strong Diesel engines but again not us parts support on those so is a dead end road in my view.
Amazing LC, brilliant. I had same color.
Love this Vehicle!
I have a 1996 90 series 3 L, 4 cyl, turbo diesel import. Great vehicle for rough terrain and self contained camping. This cruiser here would never go off road if I had it, just eye candy in my carport.
So this is actually BETTER than it would have come off the showroom floor!
Jonathan is a true artist.
I still have the factory tool kit from my ‘76. Miss Ol ‘76.
I was 10, 14 years old when those Land Cruisers came to Burma donated by world bank for petroleum corporation., it was an era those days..1977-1983....miss them....
Beautiful machine.

Wow.. just wow perfect.
So nice restoration ireally like it ..
Parabéns Pelo Vídeo!!!
I may have to pay you guys a visit ;)
Quite the difference in the engine compartment. It does look like spaghetti for sure. As always you have made it look like a new vehicle but not as cheesy of finish.
very good.... very good👍👍👍
Roll on the day you post the completed Rolls video! When's it coming?
Hi...very informative video..I thank you. Can you answer two questions that I can't seen to find the answers to. First question... do all or certain model years have the lockable storage box under the driver seat and if so where do you get them? Secondly is it possible to swap sixties and early seventies front side door panels with the "X" access panel onto later seventies and eighties models? I like the old school stock look of them on a more advanced eighties model for all the reasons you mentioned in this video. Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer. Cheers my friend!
Good speech on the imports, and yes that would apply to your TLC company, but an import could just be treated as a RestoMod by your other company ICON, where an LS motor and so much more is replaced regardless. You do know your FJ's, I'll give you that
Superb
Outrageous price, I bought mine brand new for $9000.00 in 1981.
I've always wondered, are you considering adding another vehicle to your repertoire? Something that's you'll do multiple versions of and perfect over time like you've done with the FJ and the broncos. Thanks!!
Why am I thinking that in order to have an FJ40 like this I will need to commit a bank robbery, or go into politics? P.S. That FJ is artwork!!!
I have a 66 fj 40 Frame up 350 350 air disks brakes auto trans love it
My grandfather had one , 1978 , it was really solid vehicle I hope the manufacturers build old classic cars , I know it’s impossible but it’s a wish
Love it.
This is the ultimate restoration of any vehicle I have seen. Can you please tell about the 4x4 system of this vehicle, any locking differential in it? Thanks.
