+Cooro “Snow” Fox Well to be fair, the reason it was ignored is because the original release was ONLY midnight screenings. It never got a first-run full release, not even close. It has a cult following now, but when it was released most people didn't even know it existed.

The trouble is that it suffers from typical sequel syndrome. Being that it wasn't as good as the first one Wich sequels rarely ever are. But what makes it worse is that when the first one was so amazing and the sequel is just not as amazing it often gets overlooked.

What I love about this movie is how ahead of its time it was. It portrayed how the mass audience will blindly obey and believe whatever the higher ups/celebrities say or do no matter how off the wall it is, with the help of the media (TV Shows, news stations, etc.) and corporate branding constantly controlling how the audience thinks. Not to mention the desperation of wanting to become TV or social media famous, no matter what fucked up things are going on behind the scenes (in this case Brad being basically trapped)

People don't understand that Richard O'brien was not only a visionary, but a future traveling fortune teller who was way before his time. Denton the town portrayed as always filmed live on TV is an exploration of Reality TV and peoples obsession with it, not to mention an examination of Mental illness among the population, which we all know today is a high number of the population. The Music scores ranging from Dark and slow, to fast and punk, with a perverted look at Fetishes, incest (the doctor and his sister), and dress up (with reference to cross-dressing in "Little Black Dress" song") tells me that Richard O'Brien was more then just Observant. He was literally a Visionary. Why did this movie bomb? well for me it didn't I was an instant fan the moment I saw it back in the 90s (the start of the Reality TV Revolution. The Movie Bombed because the people Feared this was their destination,. Your thoughts?

+Jeremy Powell Yeah, it failed for very simple, and very mundane reasons. Some jackass thought that it would be a good idea to make the movie inaccessible, and thus rare and desirable, by way of a limited and highly restricted release. The problem is that critics ended up not liking the movie... and as we all know, critics are infallible. Thus, the movie was doomed to the realms of obscurity. Barely anyone even knows that Shock Treatment exists. Even your most die hard Rocky Horror fan has never heard of this film.

+Zeina107 They actually did release this in theaters, for midnight screenings only on Halloween 1981. I don't know why Fox thought it was a grand idea to release it once at midnight. If it was released in late September-early October, then it would've probably fair well. It would've also been nice to probably release it with RHPS so they can at least get their money's worth on a 2 for 1 deal.

It was flawed, had good ideas and intentions, but the actor's guide strike crippled it although the two actors are great as Janet and Brad, they aren't the same as Rocky Horror and that will always annoy some people. The music is great. The problem is they shouldn't have tried to strike lighting in a bottle twice and just released it as a normal film.

As a senior in High School I saw this movie at the premier showing in downtown Denver...late October 1981. Wow...that long ago. I saw the premier advertisement in the newpaper, went out and bought the soundtrack on LP (still have it) and stored the newspaper advert in that LP sleeve. It IS a good movie and does stand up on its own. Of course I have a DVD of it along with as many of the RHPS boxed sets I could get (15th anniv, 25th? anniv) Love both. I was just in Adelaide Australia where my daughter's in-laws had a late wedding party for her and the lady DJ played Time Warp. My daughters eyes and mine locked and we jumped up on the dance floor and tried to perform it as best we could remember. I introduced my daughter to RHPS back in the late 90s...so cool to hear that song being played so far from home.

This film had alot to live up to for Rocky Horror fans, but personally, it almost succeeds on many levels. Yes, Tim Curry is absent from it, but the cast, new and old, do a decent job trying to rectify that fact. The musical numbers are once again pretty good and in many ways, the story is ahead of its time, i.e. reality tv. But this film could almost stand on its own as well. Some sequels to movies work well, excluding horror/slasher movies) this one does.

This film was ahead of its time. Very much a cult. I think a few things put people off it - using a different cast, bad release schedule and people expected a story more like RHPS. I think a lot of the songs aren’t memorable enough, except for this and “Bitchin’ in the Kitchen”. Never the less, the more I see of it, the more I like this film.

The third verse: If you're one to sequestor a hint of desire You're a bloke who can turn down a whore With the birds and the bees, we fly higher and higher I've known lovers under covers in Nador But if a girl steals your heart when you're not into hooking She will take you for all that you've got She's a thorn in your side - at least there's her cooking It'll shake you the way she moves in as likely as not You need a bit of ooooh...Shock Treatment Gets you jumping like a real live wire Need a bit of ooooh...Shock Treatment So look out Mister, don't you blow your last resistor For a vista that'll mystify ya You're riddled with stories, you're riddled with fables You can't think for yourself any more You're a broken down chap who's clearly unstable Physician, my condition please restore

People have to remember that when this movie was made The American Screen Actors Guild. was on strike making it impossible for Barry, Susan, to be in the "sudo-sequel". ALSO Frankenfurter (along with his creature) died on "that fateful night". He should have listened to me and gone Behind the curtain and not up it.

Although I've only seen this film once like two or three years ago honestly when comparing this to its predecessor Rocky Horror Picture Show, this honestly I was kinda glad I didn't know about it but more in the sense of not being over rated like it's predecessor. Yes Rocky horror is a good musical however it's just a tad over rated. Whereas this on the other hand is not over rated but honestly one of those obscure films you can't help but enjoy and appreciate some of the creative camera angles.
