Hi. So, a lot of people seem to be ''confused'' as to what I'm showcasing here. - No, this is not fluid simulation - No, this is not photorealistic - Yes, the water looks like gel - Yes, it's a flat plane of water rising - And no, this has nothing to do with THG This is a water&physics TEST - ''test'' with big letters, but I should've worded myself differently. There's no fluid simulation (you can see that in my latest video), but in this video it is physics interaction by the water as in buoyancy, foam and collision with the furniture and environment, that's the simulation i was testing. I didn't worry about reflections, color and translucency of the water as that wasn't the point. Don't get me wrong, I love the feedback where I learn more on how to get a more proper result - but obviously when comparing the water visuals of this TEST to different AAA titles this is no winner, I'm highly aware of that. When I published this I had NO idea this would get over 130.000 views, this was merely a test for myself which I wanted to publish to my KZread because I thought it looked cool, not photoreal - but cool. I'm just a solo developer working on a Titanic project who likes to post bits and pieces here and there. Again, I love the feedback from you guys, but this is no benchmark of how UE5 can look. Thank you!

I think it's just a misunderstanding. Seeing you're a solo developer this work is great, not cool, but great and shockingly good. You can just change the title so something else so that people get the real idea what video is about. I clicked thinking that it was a fluid simulation. But seeing this comment I want to tell you congrats on your work, from a solo developer to another.

For a physics simulation it looks good, but for a water material demonstration, it could use a bit more detail. I have no idea what Unreal 5 lets you do, but the water seems to rush in without any direction rather than originating at the doors and hallways. The particle effects in those places looks good, but they're very basic fountains with little structure other than minor spray. In real life, those smaller areas create currents, so at the very least, they should have some sort of direction and viscosity. Second, there are few to no caustic effects which is basically the easiest way to make water look more visually convincing. (Those squiggles of light that you can see inside of water which most game engine kits have in their shader settings) Lastly, the water needs a lot more reflectivity as it looks incredibly unrealistic without that extra detail. I know most Unreal dev kits have this capability and it could be as simple as boosting the reflective strength in the material. Also, yeah the TAA is seriously blurring any detail you have here, so maybe choosing a different AA in the rendering settings could help as well. That said, the buoyancy of the items looks good and the way you put the virtual camera into the water does make it look quite visually interesting.

Hi! Thanks for the detailed feedback, it is as you said not a water material demonstration. At this point UE5 was still pretty new, and the way I made the water material it didn't reflect anything at all. This is not fixed and the surface looks much better. If you're interested I literally just posted another simulation short. Thanks again!

Thanks for the link. It definitely looks better and it's nice to see the currents form as more water is let in. It'll be very interesting to see it all come together where the flowing water pulls the table and decorations into those spirals created by its inflow.

Wowee wow I can't wait for none of these physics or water simulation to be used in games and for all the focus to still be on trees and textures and stuff.

I just have to say this! 110 years after the dissaster happened. We can now simulate that horrific evet with this quality. That it self is kind of horrific. Using VR and UE5, you can now place your self in the Titanic under the event it sank and took in water. This huge leap in technology is something i think should be mentioned in history books... WOOW! I know i thing or 10 about Unreal Engine. I just started to learn more about fluid simulation, and wow. This is the perfect scenario to test fluid sims to check if they hold up in realistic performance... I would sooo much like to get a copy of the titanic project to try out different fluid simulations to replicate how it was inside at that time..
