One thing they got the most accurate of all these cinematic recreations was where the band was located when they played, was next to the port side entrance of the Grand Staircase.

The band went in between where the first class lounge raised roof was, and in between the gym on the starboard side.

I have heard that its more likely that they played a bit further aft and starboard
@Maniac61675

That’s actually inaccurate. The band played mostly inside the Boat Deck level of the Grand Staircase were the piano was located, and only came out during the last 20 minutes and they were on the starboard side.

In the 1976 novel "Raise the Titanic!", which the 1980 film was based on, a character named Dr. John Vogel, who specializes in restoring historic instruments, is given a cornet salvaged from the ocean floor that belonged to a fictional member of Titanic's band, Graham Farley. Vogel says that while he tests the instruments he restores, he cannot bring himself to play the cornet that symbolizes a small but heroic act during one of the greatest maritime disasters in history. While very much a work of fiction, considering there were no brass instruments in Titanic's band, this still very well sums up how the heroism of Titanic's band has made them legendary to this day. They absolutely did not have to do what they did. Nobody really needed the band playing during the evacuation. But they chose to, knowing there was nothing else they could do at that time. May we never forget them and everyone who died with the Titanic on this day 112 years ago.
The one thing that bugs me about nearly every film showing the band is that the band members (the majority of whom were in their 20s and 30s) are depicted as being much older.
The way the 1953 one starts normal but when they play a jazz start but realy sad version but when it starts it just shows a group of people on a lifeboat turning around crying is sad cause you are far away so you can hear the echos of the music when it cuts to people singing the song🤧
Top honors to the cast from "A Night To Remember." And when Wallace Hartley plays the Church of England version of "NMGTT" his violin sounds like it's weeping. Brings me to tears every time. I DO have to give a shout-out to the Wallace Hartley character in 1997's "Titanic." When the band finishes "NMGTT" he says: "Gentlemen, it has been a priviledge playing with you tonight!" And so it must have been. It's always a priviledge to be in the company of heroes.

A night to remember and camerons titanic are my favorites! 1953 is very sad as well.
I find it interesting how many versions include brass or woodwind in the band, when they only played strings.

The Legend of the Titanic (1999) is as close as we can get to that
Idea for a future video: if I recall a woman in Titanic (1997) asked for the lifeboat to be held so she could get her bag and the officer dumps her into the boat anyway
@Hirundo-demersalis
Ай бұрын
Yes, a woman asks Second Officer Lightoller if he can hold the boat so she can get her luggage. He responds by lifting her up, plunking her down in the lifeboat and demanding that she sit down. A bit harsh, but he knows there's no time for such nonsense in an emergency! There's also a brief scene of him angrily tossing suitcases overboard, as they're taking up too much room in the lifeboats.

Ah, what a fitting way to end Titanic Month although that full orchestra in the 1943 movie and that singing in Titanic: The Legend Goes On is quite ridiculous, I've certainly enjoyed seeing these again with how intriguing the different depictions have always been

The Night to Remember is how we would hope it happened, but it was likely much more chaotic and unorganized. The sight of the ship sinking while that song plays over the water must have been profound for the lifeboat passengers.
Video concepts: People playing with ice. And The Funnels Breaking. (There is also a funnel breaking in the 1996 Verison if you probably miss it. It happens before the final plunge.

No. Only A Night To Remember played the right version of Nearer my God to thee.
You had to include those god damned animated films. ಠ_ಠ
Fact: There was an argument with people whether the final song was Autumn or Nearer My God To Thee. Survivors like Harold Bride said it was Autumn. It was featured in the book version of A Night to Remember but instead they put Nearer My God To Thee. Nearer My God To Thee has three different versions and two of them are British versions. They're the most likely ones.
Another excellent video in this series! Well done! Perhaps the next one should be about Collapsible B, showing it being launched, boarded and the survivors balancing on top of it. Absolutely unbelievable and harrowing story of survival and human endurance!

1943 made me cry just look at it😢
It's interesting that "In Nacht und Eis" has a much different version of Nearer My God to thee, having a different verse as it says, "That shall be the answer, my banner as you also lead me here," which is odd because the 1st verse in the 3 main versions (Horuby, Propior Deo, and Bethany) follow the same lyrics but a different tune. But this version shows many different lyrics and a possibly different tune on the screen, as they have shown us on the music sheet. So if it is possible back in 1912 there were actually 4 versions of the hymn but the other one shown in In Nacht und Eis probably had faded into view as the public back then who were mostly Catholics or Anglican in Britain would have known Bethany and Horuby better. Also, why didn't you show the television version of A Night to Remember in 1956 as it too showed the band and was the 1st one after S.O.S. Titanic to us "Autumn"? And by the way, this isn't a song d'automne; it's a hymn tune called Autumn, and no, Autumn isn't actually a hymn but a hymn tune. Back in the day, for a hymn, you would have the lyrics sheet and a hymn tune for the lyrics. The hymn tune Autumn was used once for hymns like "Hail Thou Once Despised Jesus" and "God of Mercy and Compassion," which was the version used in S.O.S. Titanic; it's even listed on the movie soundtrack called "God of Mercy." Oh and also the Band of the 2012 version of Titanic sounded like they were actually going to play song d'automne but the tune went different entirely.
The only thing I would say are missing from this clip is The band scene from A Night To Remember the Kraft Television Special (I am aware the film version is here!). Still a great video! I always watch Titanic films/TV shows for the musicians.
Let's do the South Hampton scene of the Titanic film and TV next year.
At 4:24, when they released the Blu-Ray version of S.O.S. Titanic I wish they didn't alter the angle of it.

Ok the 1953 Verison was definitely inspired by the 1929 Verison .
And then there's the "lol...what?" 1999 animated clip
I was born on the 15th of April!
Should we even acknowledge the animated Titanic movies?
I completely forgot that the band got a lifeboat to themselves in the 1999 film.
One big issue is Titanic 1953 and Titanic 1943 shows the band playing brass on the deck. Major error.
