Tipu Sultan
The Fourth Anglo-Mysore War (1799) saw the defeat of Tipu Sultan and further reductions in Mysorean territory. Mysore's alliance with the French was seen as a threat to the East India Company and Mysore was attacked from all four sides. Tipu's troops were outnumbered 4:1 in this war. Mysore had only 35,000 soldiers, whereas the British commanded 60,000 troops. The Nizam of Hyderabad and the Marathas launched an invasion from the north. The British won a decisive victory at the Battle of Seringapatam in 1799. Tipu was killed during the defence of the city. Much of the remaining Mysorean territory was annexed by the British, the Nizam and the Marathas.

Sultan Fateh Ali Tippu, also known as the Tiger of Mysore (November 20, 1750, Devanahalli -- May 4, 1799, Srirangapattana), was the first son of Haidar Ali by his second wife, Fatima or Fakhr-un-nissa. He was the de facto ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore from the time of his father's death in 1782.
He was killed in 1799 by the British.
Sir Walter Scott, commenting on the abdication of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1814, wrote: "Although I never supposed that he [Napoleon] possessed, allowing for some difference of education, the liberality of conduct and political views which were sometimes exhibited by old Haidar Ally, yet I did think he [Napoleon] might have shown the same resolved and dogged spirit of resolution which induced Tippoo Saib to die manfully upon the breach of his capital city with his sabre clenched in his hand."

Read the History of Yashwant Rao Holkar. He lived for only 35 years. The British didn't mess with him in any way. He kept his kingdom completely free as long as he lived.

Tipu Sultan was indeed a brave and very sceintific person too in finding new methods of war. However, he did not reward his nobles adequately for their services which made them treacherous towards him. That was irrational and the only reason for his defeat. He should have shown his intelligence in other fields also. He should have conducted some tests like they do today by sending French officers posing themselves as British to offer his nobles a heavy amount. PLS REPLY IF U CAN! THX! END!

Tipu sultan was the only Indian to have defeated British two times...also Tipu is the first one to use the modern rockets for military use. After his defeat his rockets were reverse engineered and used by British. Then the brit pigs call those rockets as Congreve Rockets. This myth should be changed. Congreve did not invent military Rockets, Tipu did. Never before Tipu rockets were used. Same rockets were used by Brits against Americans, and still mentioned in Star Spangled Banner.
