The introduction of this programme was so good in those doordarshan days 25years back , I remember I was in 7th class my history school teacher used to tell us to watch this programme without fail we understood the value that time but over the years we did and still do . Love u Sanjay Khan

We will forever be grateful to our brave Marathas for their sacrifice.they died young at places which were far far far away from their homes.they could not even see their loved ones.may their souls rest in peace

This was the best tv serial series till now which was produced and directed by Sanjay Khan in the year 1990. While watching this tv series it seemd that I have arrived in that era. Really, our Patriots are the best who lived and died for our nation only by keeping away enemies from our country forever.

This serial was aired on DD when I was in 7th std. I have not missed a single episode. It was for 1 hour. 8pm to 9pm slot. Thursday.

The maratha's are great fighters. Story starts from chathrapathi shivaji , tanaji malsura , vishwas rao, bazi rao I, bazi rao II etc. They played very important role for the freedom of india.

Amazing serial!!! Great work by Sanjay Khan to show the might of the Marathas!

Indian cinema and Indian tv traditionally dealt with people issues of love, family relations, social classification and so forth.........in that light it was intriguing to see Doordharshan tackle a subject related to history, war and politics, which was reasonably done. There was still the OTT acting, the annoying music at specific times, BUT it was for me the first time such a theme was tackled and portrayed in detail. I did watch JUNOON in the mid 1980's,.... but still

I remember channel 4 used to air a 30 minute episode of this serial in 1994 in England, back when we asians had hardly any asian programmes aired to watch in England and there was no asian channels just terrestrial TV. Ahhh the memories

Awesome man

One of the greatest Hindu Empire of Hindustan which was powerful to that extent, with the help of jackals of that era this powerful kingdom was brought down. There were traitors in the Maratha empire and also there were traitors among Hindustani's as well. Even the British feared to face the Maratha Army face to face. Their war strategies were that fine and especially Mahadji Scindia who after the third battle of Panipat rose to such power that his army was the strongest and most modernisied army when compared to any army of Hindustan at that time. N number of times i have watched this serial but never get bored and every time i would want to watch it again. The title music is just astounding as well the BGM and music for Bhajan song are just amazing. I remember watching this serial on Doordarshan when i was young boy and i love to watch this serial even today. Jai Bhavani. Jai Shivaji

You are right - had it not been for some traitors and arrogant idiots to failed to evolve with times, marathas would have literally kicked britishers out of India under the right leadership of more leaders like Mahadji.

Wow, reminds me of when I was little and watched Channel 4 with my parents and when Channel 4 had proper programmes!

Have been closely following the discussion here : we may argue heroes and foes in both sides . But the bottom line remains the same : Abdali and several of the invaders that attacked the indian borders before him came with no goodwill message - plunder, forced conversions and terrorizing the non-muslim crowds by destroying the local culture was always on forefront. and behold, I am not a hindu sympathiser when I say this. reality remains, most of the invaders thronging to india were attracted

Abdali never dreamt of crossing Narmada to challenge the Marathas in their den.He just didn't have the allies,resources or inclination to achieve that.Compare this to Sadashiv Bhau who went to Panipat without the support of any ally or resources and perilously entrapped himself in North.Abdali like i said wanted to keep Marathas at bay in North India and he achieved this objective until Afghan influence flattened in early 1770s.

Even after the major debacle of Panipat, Marathas under the likes of Mahadji rose back to prominence. Moreover, even after the 'so called victory' of Panipat, Abdali never ever ventured back into our country.

Pankaj Shinde no shinde who went towards Madhya Pradesh were known as scindhiyas. Shinde were great warrior and scindhiyas were cheater fraud and these were the people who let English people in back in our country

I concur with you on whatever you have opined.Its such a shame that we just couldn't get our act together even when invasions have been the part and parcel of our lives since times immemorial .I believe modern nation of India is capable of preventing such barbaric cruelties against our own people by outsiders.

Yes I watched this during the 1990's but missed the final parts for some reason, as it was shown on channel 4. They shifted it to a ridiculous hour something like 5 in the morning on Sunday, from the original schedule of Midday Saturday.........so if you can please upload the whole series....this is an improvement on Tipu Sultan in my opinion, with the acting especially, and plot scenes etc

Marathas had the ambition of securing the dominance of India so they had to fight it out with the rest of the contenders either small or big.The first Anglo Maratha war(1775-1782) was forced on the Marathas which was a stalemate but the Marathas bungled in the next two and paid the price.

Even Maratha lost the battle,they defeated Britishers in First Anglo-maratha war lead by Mahadji scindia and in second Anglo maratha war ,Maratha themselves were divided which led to cause of defeat!

The war was neither won by Abdali nor lost by marathas it was a victory for the british who used the oppurtunity to conquer india after the defeat of marathas and the pyrrhic victory of the afghans. Had this war not taken place both india and afghanistan would've been a far better place today.

Abdali has carried out attacks far into India.He ransacked places like Mathura,Gokul and Vrindandavan along with Delhi during his fourth invasion(1757).It was Abdali who droved Sabaji and Dattaji Sindhia from Punjab to Delhi.Abdali's last invasion came in 1767.Marathas under Mahadji got the control of Delhi only in 1771 which facilitated the return of Shah Alam to Delhi in 1772.

hahahaha.... Abdali was beaten brutally by the MArathas in 1757. He came to know about the Maratha might and was afraid to fight the Marathas alone. THe only power who had defeated Abdali. Abdali in his previous invasions had slaughtered the SIKHS and JATS. Abdali lost heavily in the battle of panipat as Marathas even being half of their force were wining for the better part of the day from 9 am to 2pm. It was only the over zealousness of the MAratha Sardars who chased the fleeing Afghans got the reserved forces of Abdali to take over the fronts and in 2 hours the tide changed. Read some credible books before barking here...
