So if the hard drive is bad and you change it, what key combination do you hold while pressing the power button to boot from the DVD OS-X Leopard disc? On an INTEL Mac PRO TOWER?

Whoohoo!! Jan 2019, I got the black screen on a 2012 Mac after my husband moved my Mac. I was freaking out this is my Tax computer. Option+Command+R+H worked for me. I also have on my MacBook Pro which I caused the ? folder after trying to fix it 5 months ago. I will give that a try next.

Option + Command + P + R worked like a charm. After the first chime the screen went dark and I freaked wondering what's up and the screen came on again and chimed a second time but just in case I let It chime one more time so 3 all together and it went through its starting protocols. It wasn't until I saw my desktop that I could relax. Hey thanks for putting this up.

In a window keyboard which one woul it be the command and shift? I have a wireless keyboard mac but i dont yhink it would work with the imac like that

same here. i have an older macbook pro and had the sierra followed by high sierra. after my first sierra update, stuff like this started to happen. it got worse with high sierra. it sux! DON"T UPDATE.....No one at apple will confirm because of current lawsuits....I'm down grading Apple developers as MS....it sucks now!!

@@philmedina9523 shit, I've had my laptop since 2008. Some dude convinced me to update because it was a little slow. Fd up my computer. First time I'm experiencing issues. First and last time I update.

If your iMac hasn't been used in a while, and you turn it on, it has a white screen for a short time. The apple loading icon pops up...if you don't have a keyboard / mouse connected, will a couple of different icons pop up? I got a hold of an iMac (A1312 - a dumpster find!) Yesterday, and did a short test on it. Thank you 🤓

Will this work with a regular keyboard if I don’t have the Apple one ⌨️?

What ended up working for me, was holding down, Shift-Command-R-P simultaneously. That helped me get out of the start up freezing. From there used time machine to get everything back to where it was. Thank you for the video!

It could be updated to the latest MacOS can slow your older system down, Apple might do this and making your older MacBook Pro slow so Apple can sell you a newer MacBook Pro.

After the 2nd chime, I released the keys. Then it had a 3rd chime and the full screen is white. What can I try next?

After watching I tried pressing command key plus R key and it is showing a spinning globe with the writing starting internet connection. Please I really want to fix my Apple Mac so can you tell me what I'll do.

Most likely it's your hard drive, try a new hard drive and see if you get a menu by pressing those commands in the video. Good luck.

But I pushed command-r and cannot get into the recovery utility nothing else is working and I can't get past that one grey screen with the apple with the spinning wheel I've tried every trick I could find on the internet I'm pretty sure it's my hard drive but I don't know how to fix it can you help me

Omg thank you soooo muchhhh The first one was lit I was facing black screen issue and was about to do the unplud power eject ram one tutorial but I couldn’t eject the ram no matter what Thought of giving the first one a try its been 3 hours and the mac screen has been working well thank you so muchhh Option+Command+R+P really did the job

The new hard drive from where? There are lots of seller selling old or refurbished hard drive as new. When Mac OS X senses bad hard drive it will shut down on you. Have you tried to air dust your old unit or clean it?

My imac is of 2005 and the imac charge the bar is stock

CMD + OPT + R + P does not make the iMac beep. It makes it boom. As per Apple instructions, the function option-Command-P-R is designed to Reset NVRAM or PRAM. Apple PCs do beep, especially the Mac Pro, which is used to update the firmware by pressing and holding the power button, which will flicker the power button LED and then give you a beep code. I have another suggestion for viewers. Sometimes, this could happen if you install Windows 10 using BOOTCAMP with the OSX being older than Mojave. So, upgrade your OSX to Catalina and that will solve the problem. I tried that on iMac 27 Mid 2011 with Core i7 CPU. Eventually I ended up booting using Catalina and used Disk Utility to remove all partitions, created a single APFS partition and installed the Catalina. Then I used Catalina's BOOTCAMP to install Windows 10. The iMac runs well now.

Does iOS have a recovery partition (factory reset feature)? If you have an iMac and you turn it on but don't have a keyboard / mouse connected, will you see a couple of strange icons? Thank you 🤓 found, yes found, in a dumpster!! an iMac A1312 yesterday. I did a short test on it, but had no keyboard / mouse connected.

OMG thank you so much. I tried all of the ideas until one of them worked for me, which was shift, command, R, and P. I did have to reinstall the OS, it took forever, I fell asleep while it was doing its thing, woke up this morning, changed the cord to a different outlet just as a precaution because one plug works the other one doesn't and when I turn off my fan on the other side of the room I hear a pop. Long story short its back up and running. I really down about it and I truly appreciate you. Blessings.

Nope.

My problem was that it turned on, showed the loading bar, that suddenly disappeared and I was left with a white screen. I just did everything you said and I’d did that starting sound ( for the first time btw, felt like I was finally going somewhere) but now, after the loading bar appeared for a short time again I’m left with a white screen again.. how do I fix this? Also, my model is one of the bit older ones, I got it from my grandpa to keep it if I can fix it…

That is the prohibitory sign, you need to reinstall your OS because something is incompatible or interfering with boot. Boot with command and R key to enter recovery and reinstall macOS - Mac OS X

Too make you out of the hard drive problem is to hold alt and power button and keep holding alt untill you see a drive. Plug in your WiFi cord ( yellow) in your Mac and you will see maconotsch hd or Rocorvery mode. Then wait 1 min or a minute. Then you will see os x el utilitie. And then go to disk utilities and erase your drive. Then reinstall your os el captain to reinstall your max.

Hey if you can help please I need help. I can’t boot into safe mode, recovery. I tried fresh reinstall but it said it couldn’t be completed. I managed to get to disk utility but there was nothing there, just this blue circle (2gb) . I’m so lost.

1) I forced shut down the mac by pressing and holding the power button. 2) I booted the machine in recovery mode. (for those who dont know, you have to press and hold the command+R buttons and then press and hold the power button till your machine starts OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support) 3) Once the machine booted in the recover mode, You'll be presented with options like restore from time machine, reinstall OSX, etc. 4) Now click the apple logo on the top left. There will be an option called "Startup Disk". 5) Click it, it'll open a window showing available hard drives 6) Select the hard drive in which the OS is installed and click the restart button. Your machine should boot up

if you have a usb then yeah but if it doesnt then the actual imac needs to be on to connect it

I did cont option p and r and I have the apple logo with the bar under it and it’s taking forever to finish. More than 3/4 of the way done.

What do I do if the iMac is not even responding to the keyboard!? My caps lock indicator light does not even come on. I have it plugged in with the USB cable. I am hearing only the initial "chime" but not a second chime. How do I get the keyboard to respond? It's brand new!

Disconnect and reconnect the keyboard. Make sure the connector is completely inserted into the port. Connect your keyboard to a different USB port or to a different Mac. If this solves the problem, your Mac may need to be repaired.

I hope you can help me. I have a 2012 macbook pro 13" It used to say something about the start up disk. I think it was start up disk full Haven't used it in a while, now i get the gray screen of death I was able to get to the screen with option to choose mac hd or recovery. Choosing mac hd just restarts and then black screen. Recovery allowed me to connect an external to back up, but it's not showing any of my back ups (which i definitely have) So i'm thinking i need a new hard drive Is there any way to recover my data that's on my laptop? I don't remember if i backed up the latest stuff that was on there? If i switch to a windows or pc laptop, will i be able to put the mac stuff i have saved on my externals onto the windows or pc laptop? Thanks in advance for any help

Most likely it's your hard drive. You can try to hook on your PC and use a USB data cable to see if you can read your old hard drive. Good luck.
