I just started gardening, and I'm here in Florida between Sarasota and ft. Myers gulf side very hot and humid. I started my vegetable plants and put in the most sunny part of my yard. Needless to say I killed them all. I started some more and put them under a big shade tree, they're doing much better. I don't know how I started seeing your videos ,but I'm grateful I did. I'm learning a lot and enjoying learning tips and tricks from you, keep those videos coming. I watch them every morning, while having my coffee. Thank you!

Under shade cloth, they’ll do just fine in summer heat. (At least 40%-60%, depending on time of year). Nearly no cost to tie up corners using a stone and zip tie.

I “borrow” binder clips from the office to secure my shade cloth. 😂

When my daughter was little, she wanted her bedroom painted, and I told her okay and that she could pick out the color. She wanted a deep purple and explained to me that after we painted it purple, she wanted to invite her friends over to sponge paint over the purple with silver paint and teal green paint. I was very skeptical about it, but said okay. They had a blast sponge painting, and they each put their handprints and the date that they did it. Robbie, it was absolutely beautiful. The designs they made while sponge painting was beautiful, but the best part was their handprints. Thank you for mentioning the purple paint because it brought back beautiful memories, and it put a big smile on my face. ❤😊😊❤

I love it ! What a beautiful memory to have . I have spray painted several large pots & rusted watering cans ( turned into flower pots ) purple , as well as arbors & trellises throughout my gardens . Also some are teal . You would be amazed how it just gives a pop of color where needed .

@ellenfisher6341 I have been painting old flower pots that I have collected over the years. I have been painting them a Lagoon and a paprika color. The lagoon is kinda close to a teal color. I bet your gardens are beautiful. I have my grandmother's old metal watering can and never thought about painting it. Thank you for mentioning it. 😊

@@jwater63 , I will have to get some of that Paprika color . One of my favorite things to plant in those old watering cans are Hens & Chicks & other succulents . I am thinking about applying a vintage , etc decal to one , then spray painting a clear Rustoleum paint over it . If I was an artist ( which I am not ) . It breaks my heart when one of those cans gets a hole in it , but @ least they are given a new life 🥰

This is my first year container gardening and you have helped me so much! (My husband thinks I went overboard 😮) Great video, as usual. My potatoes are growing already, they are in 10 pound grow bags. 🤞 I'm planting my little sweet potato slips tomorrow. What a joy!!❤

Thanks Robbie, the sunshades are a great idea. I plant mostly under mesquite trees and other shade areas because of our intense summer heat. (zone 9a Tucson, Arizona) It was 110 yesterday and heading for 103 today. Just a small amount of time in the sun and many of my plants are toast! I am taking another of your tips and planting melons (watermelon and cantaloupe). My chickens love both and so do I. 🐾Zoe🐾🌵💙🐝🐣🐣🫎

Robbie, white will keep the truck bed's soil and plants cooler if heat and sun is a concern.

Go for it! Try the purple. Just remember dark colors attract more heat from sun.

Crimson Sweet is my favorite watermelon to grow because although it is bigger than Sugar Baby, it has less seeds!

That is a clever idea using those car shade things to mitigate the sun! So far my melons are doin alright in he sun but this could be useful for any leafy greens. I up-potted some giant spinach and it wilted and died right away outdoors. Next day it had fully disintegrated. I think you should do the purple!

With potatoes, they’ll start to grow, and you’ll see the plants growing in your container green plants looking a little like a tomato plant, when the plants either die back or start to die back, meaning they’re not growing anymore and they’re starting to turn yellow or brown. That’s when you can harvest them.❤ once you start growing potatoes, I think you’ll grow them all the time

I thought it was asparagus lol. But then I finally realized that it was a potatoes growing 💗 thank you Robbie for the info that you provided I greatly appreciate it 🌺

I have a big maple now blocking part of one of my raised beds that now only gets about 5 hours of direct sun. Peppers are supposed to have a minimum of 6 hours. Could I use one of those car reflection shades to put on top of the soil to reflect more light up to the peppers? Last year I didnt get the abundant harvest as what I use to before the maple blocked the sun.

Hi Robbie this is Linda is the shade for the watermelon do we use use it for the whole summer or is it just for the high temperature times I was wondering if this is a question I saw someone buying cow manure bags and they said they were buying it for fertilizer for their plants is that a good idea???

Watermelon actually loves the sun, so it’s basically just for the young tender plants. They grow watermelon plants in the middle of the desert. Make sure you keep your watermelon Plants watered well at the base. Cow manure is good if you know where it’s coming from, if the cows are fed antibiotics or things that are no good you don’t need it. I just compost leaves that I’m growing and it works perfect

Why do you have emus? They will ear your garden. Emus or Ostriches?
