Hey David, Is Neuro telemetry same as medsurg? Or is it like Neuro step down? Please tell me. I am confused. How many pt are you allowed to take?

Neuro telemetry is like a med-surg floor but mainly with patients who are neurologically compromised. But they're floor level acuity, not stepdown or ICU. So instead of pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, GI bleeds, or general post-op patients you'll see stable stroke patients, seizure patients, brain tumors, etc. Again, their level of acuity will be med-surg, meaning they're not sick enough to need stepdown or ICU.

Hello Kati! Love your videos and how informative you are! New Neuro nurse here 😬 Nursing School does not prepare you for the real world out there. It’s scary , stressful, short handed floors being overloaded floors and I’ve been in tears already many shifts. How do you build up confidence and realizing you don’t have to know everything ? I’ve already seen bullying out there as well in the nursing world. I just want to be a good nurse any pointers? I feel like the Neuro floor is definitely a challenge and a hard floor to be on. I’ve found in the computer system A lot of the wording I’m still trying to figure out what that looks like on a patient. Do you have any videos that go over those terms on what a patient would look like as far as assessing like there’s so many different terms when you’re new Trying to get understanding of what kind of eyes these are , the different expression like language, there’s just so many different terms in those different assessment areas in the computer that sometimes you’re not even sure what that means. I didn’t know if you had a good video on demonstrating that as I’m a visual person .the new terms so I didn’t know if there was something out there or maybe it’s in yourNeuro course? Could use some help in that area determining what different descriptions of these Neuro assessments on all these descriptions would look like. Would you happen to have a list of Nuro abbreviations that doctors might use in their notes? I’m having a hard time with this knowing what is what didn’t know if you might have something like that handy I thought about even looking into your Neuro course.

I'm at a neuro RN but rather a cardiac RN, but I would personally attempt to contact a spouse, family member or caregiver to help you better determine your patients baseline. You'd be surprised by how much helpful info family members can provide you.

Wholeheartedly agree with Michele. It is REALLY tough to get a baseline on someone with an underlying chronic pathology and I often rely on the family or support to ask, "So is this normal for them?" and learn more through that - and also try to see if the chart has any additional information as well to clue me in on normal. If they came from a facility, you could always call them as well to see what the patient's normal was also. But the family, esp if they're at bedside, will likely be the best source of information.

I had a brain stroke never got it treated but God did miracle in me... I have 2 years now and have experienced issues though subchori hemorage whatever thing 😒 🙄 😑 😐 so I dah know

Hey Kati, I am looking for a job on Neuro telemetry unit , but I have no idea what they do. Is this floor same as Medsurg? Or it is like step down Neuro/telemetry unit?

Ugh I’ve been Working on a neuro trauma unit for 7 months and called my first rapid response last night. So scary.I called a code stroke And after a stat ct... and 5 min of tpa... my pt was talking again

I graduate in May and I have a neuro ICU interview tomorrow!!! WHEN I get it, what course would you recommend me getting? I saw both the Breakthrough ICU or Neuro wise and think both would be great!!

I'm so sorry I am just seeing this comment. Definitely Neuro Wise! If after 4-6 months you feel super comfortable and then start getting floated to ICU, I would consider Breakthrough ICU - but you may not need it.

Hello! Is it okay to not expose in Medical-Surgical unit? Im thinking just to accept nueroscience unit as a nurse job.

If the patient is noted to be confused after asking those questions, it is a good idea to orient them? Or will this jeopardise your assessment after 2 hours? Great video BTW! Prepping for an interview 😅

Yes, I'd orient them at that time. So if they said it was 1967, I'd say something like, "Ah, okay so it's actually 2022. Does that sound right to you?" and just see what they say next. I don't think it would jeopardize anything! I hope the interview goes well!

If they are AOX4 and could not remember who the president is, are they still oriented to time? Might be a dumb question but I just want to know

I would just use a different question to ask if you're not sure. You could ask what holiday we recently had, or if they know the year and month! If you're ever not sure, think of a different way to assess the same thing and compare your findings. No questions are dumb!

Meee! As a LPN. I’m so scared

Most Nurses don't learn by listening to explanations. They are visual/tactile learners. Just tell them to be patient take things in small bites, and build on their knowledge. Look up disease processes as you encounter them. Get the Hickey Neuro Bible. Be Patient with themselves. Above all else if you don't know-ask. Do these things and you'll do just fine. Not 15 mins of gobably goop about ICPs and how hard to pinch your patient.

Annoying af.
