Tips for Finding Vintage Bargains in Antique Decorator Boutique Malls!
An unexpected car problem leads to antique shopping bliss in a new place! Southern Pickers in Tifton, Georgia has been on our radar, and when the (usually) trusty van says it's time for a mechanical "spa day", we get to see what picking we can do in this interesting hybrid antique and boutique mall.
Stylish is the word for the displays here, and the blending of antiques with art, crafts, clothing and new decor gives us a chance to show you how we divine the old and vintage items from those other items that contribute to the magnetism of the mall. Fortunately, antiques are in abundance, from handsome carved American oak to enameled Victorian pitchers, and vintage finds vary from a scarce Gene Autry cap gun in original box to 1930s pocket watches and 1960s costume jewelry!
How do we find the real deals in such a varied group of wares? We offer tips (Look down! Look up!) and tricks (like how to quickly tell if an "on sale" space is worth your time digging), designed to make a collector excursion to fun antique venues like this worth your while. We show what we find and why we think it's worth buying, and point out some other potential bargains along the way.
Sweet dealers and viewers, honest mechanics and the lure of more vintage shops yet untouched make Southern Pickers and the other shops of TIfton a welcome new stop on the long stretch between Atlanta and Florida! We go home with fun finds for our collectors and a new appreciation for vintage in the cotton belt.

I appreciate when you point out fakes. I’m not terribly knowledgeable, but even I have spotted fakes in antique malls, thanks to people like you teaching us.

So glad the car repair was affordable!
Thank you for turning your lemons into our lemonade! So many neat items!!❤️
Sorry that Leroy’s vehicle broke down. But you got a great video and fun shopping experience for your troubles. Safe travels
‘And this guy, who’s looking for a fight’…you made me laugh out loud! I always enjoy your videos. And your humor.
There was a Colonial Revival during the 60s. It was used on the TV set for I Love Lucy when Lucy moved to Connecticut and that set the Americana style across the US. Currently, the next trend for interiors is No Trends, meaning that if the style has a name, like Farmhouse or Boho, it's out. What is in is layering time periods, mixing and layering different time periods to give a generational collected feel to the home. The idea is to unite the different types of furnishings with color. Personally, I am glad to see gray everything go away.

I like grey as a neutral, it was never meant to be the entire color scheme! Your observations seem true to what I'm experiencing
So informative AND enjoyable. Loved shopping with you, thanks!
Loved that chandelier
I get less interested in making collections of like items as time passes, and have come to appreciate all vintage & antique and have fav. examples of most everything that interests me and am drawn to.
George…you’re amazing! I met you once. And you’re the same in person as on KZread! Genuinely smart. Thanks so much for sharing your experience, thoughts, and great knowledge with us! Can’t wait to be in your presence again. I’m here in Florida. Rennigers Market is my stepping grounds. Lol😊
I also like that Japan tray set. I like Royal Albert chins and love the cups.
Quite a diverse collection at that antique mall. Another fun video George! Thank you!

Yes, that is a fun store. I enjoyed the Blue Ridge. Lots of new and old.
The clock wall pocket with the red, yellow and blue anthropomorphic birds was amazing. My grandfather had his own radio show when he was 17. He was Maury the Yodeling Cowboy. I always think of him when I see singing cowboy items. He played guitar and sang into his 80s.
Another fun, interesting, and informative trip. Thank you, George.
What fun! Those displayed wallpockets were to die for! 😊

I have to agree with you. I wanted all of them. I collect wall pockets and especially love the clocks.
Sorry your car broke down. Good that it gave you time to shop for us
Hi George. The Blue Ridge sugar & creamer caught my attention. I've found two sets recently to put in my booths. Thank God for google lens, as I of course couldn't find any marks identifying what they were. I love the blue opalescent hobnail vase! Any shiny thing like opalescent or iridescent fascinates me, just like a small child!

Be leary of Google lens. It can help you, and it can be your next enemy. I have seen items on there and of course other venues that are totally misidentified.
George, I have to agree with you. I do not care for the mixture of new and old booths. I had one place I loved going to for antiques/vintage. When I went back, they were more new and handmade items. Give me an "antique" malls anyday. Also thanks for all the information you give us. I learn so much from you.
The blue hobnail vase would have come with me!💙 The snack trays are nice. Also, like the bird plates. Love Royal Albert, Shelley, and Paragon !
Good morning George, when are you scheduled to do another online auction? Always a great time, hope all is well. ✌🏼💚
Hi George! My favorite thing I saw was all those wall pockets. I do hope and pray that your mom is doing better❤️ Safe travels to you❤️💛💚💜🧡

Well glad to hear they were able to fix "LeRoy" for you lol. They have funny places to break down that is for sure. Glad you were able to shop while you waited too. This is a fun little shop and a lot of unexpected good buys. Have a safe trip and great rest of your day
Another great video! Glad Leroy could be restored to healthy driving!
Love Blue Ridge Pottery.
Frame 32:04 My Mother had that exact bowl your showing & 2 birds that faced each other. I never knew they were Fenton. Like I've said before, I learn something new each time I watch you ! :~)
Great video, thanks George!
Love the blue Hall deco cookie jar! Never knew! 💙
George, you made the very best of the car trouble ! 😂 😂
loved the Florentine box you picked up George!
I just love watching your videos, especially because I learn so much! I’ve been by Tifton coming from Florida. In May I’ll be in Tennessee for a graduation. I’ll be thrifting in Murfreesboro and surrounding areas. Then in August in Texas! Thank for sharing your knowledge with us. 💝

Great episode! Thanks George!

Wow, didn't realize this video took place in tifton. I live in alapaha right up the road Have bought several items from southern pickers.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and the pricing on these interesting items
Stop next door at Bula’s and visit my booth…Sammy’s Corner! Love your videos!
Such a fun way to spend unexpected time. Of course shopping was probably contingent on the cost of repairs! Nice to find someone honest and good in a strange to you place! Thanks for another great video George ❤

Hi George! My brother lives nearby in Douglas so I’ve been antiquing in Tifton! Great vid, as usual!❤❤❤
That brooch is gorgeous!
Nice save we need to get carving tools! Stunning!
My wall pocket addiction days are under control now but the one you featured is sweet. 🍬
We have 2 booths there. The one with the dress bust jewelry was one of them Thanks for shopping with us
All that Currier&Ives, I bought about 500 pieces at an auction, so me and my 3 sons all have it for daily use, teapots, serve wareit was a great buy in 2010 for about $100...
I love the tea cups. I have collected several and some tea pots.
Cool video, George! The Hakusan pieces appear to be done in a Kutani region style. Very neat. Agreed, just after Meiji Era.

Very nice antique shops, glad it wasn't newer stuff.
Definitely, interesting to learn from you where many iteams came from and their current value.
Good evening, George! I liked that Russian nesting doll set, with the Russian Orthodox motif. Mom has one of those fruit pyramids. Hers is a large one, and it is done in full colour. Loved that 1890s game bird plate. Those types of plates have always been a favourite of mine. I have one plate with sheep on it. I've not seen too many of those. I used to have that set of Inidana Glass pitcher and stemmed tumblers...I gave it away. As to painting antique or vintage furniture...I'm not a fan of that, at all. Unless it originally had a painted finish, I would've put it in my house. Those Gene Autry books would be a nice collection to have. I like that sort of series in books. That electric blue pitcher, from about 1900, looked like a Northwood piece. There was a fish on a shelf, in the J's Junkin' space, that really caught my eye. Couldn't tell if it was a vintage one or not, though. That "catsup" dispenser was interesting. It is mostly spelled "ketchup" these days. Several interesting items there. Thanks for the take-along!!! I hope your mom is doing well!!! All my best to the both of you!!!

My goodness, I apologize for being so very slow in responding! I thought the Russian Orthodox piece was an interesting ("meta" by today's parlance) juxtaposition of the dolls with religious culture. I like the fruit pyramids, I imagine hers is sumptuous! The Indiana Glass set is good quality but just more common, with your advanced collection of beverage sets I imagine it just didn't have a place. I find the "catsup" vs "ketchup" issue strangely interesting, apparently it depends where you live whether those two condiments are actually the same or not.

@@TheAntiqueNomad With everything you've had going on, it would've been perfectly OK if you had just let the replies slide! If the Indiana Glass set I had had been in the green, I would've probably kept it. The blue is just so common and seems to be everywhere. It seems I remember mom once had a "catsup" dispenser when I was younger. It was red and had some kind of figure on it, with the word "Catsup". Whew! That would be more years ago than I'd care to remember 🤣 I'd like to still have it, though.
Looks like a Juliana brooch to me!
Welcome to Georgia !
$55.00 on an off condition Charlie's Angels lunch box is NUTS. People started OVER pricing lunchboxes in the late 1980s / early 1990s when a guy named "Mr. Lunch Box" put out a PRICE GUIDE to lunchboxes . He wanted to boost the value of HIS collection by doing so. It wrecked the market within the next few years . Then prices came down a bit . Then he moved on to collecting CEREAL boxes ! Talk about hard to find. I collect them myself . The ones from the late 1960s are the most desirable.
$200 for the Myott ?? For that price i would expect a rare 'Sol' J&G Meakin or an early Midwinter at very least. But then i'm in the uk. :) Love Holt Howard. Would buy up all the pieces i saw over there . Lovely stuff ❤️
Grateful!!!❤
Hi there! I love your videos! I am learning a lot about vintage craft and glassware. I am curious though....when you say "newer" items....at what point in history/age are you talking about? Newer stuff from now? The 80's, 90's? I want to learn how to look out for these items so I am not confused between newer and vintage. Thanks. :)
Nice place for Leroy to break down. Lucky you, lots of great finds!
Good eye friend! The beaded brooch is indeed Juliana and is verified in the "is it juliana?" database as item # 6283. 🎉❤

You were in Tifton, Georgia, and didn't give a shout-out!!! LOL 😆
How do you tell which wall tapestry’s are desirable, and the cost?
Believe it or not my grandfather (my mom's dad) & Gene Autry were cousins on his dad's side !!! He told us grandkids that he lost touch with him when he moved to California & became the famous singing cowboy 🤠 !!! I believed him cause my grandfather never lied or made stories up that weren't true !!!! We have other famous people in our family on my grandmother's side !!!!!
Are you headed to Spokane soon for Custer?
George, don't buy another Dodge!!! Yall stay safe!!!
Good information on the fake marks. I would like to see a side by side of fake and real.

Loretta has been caught in a new love triangle. Miss Ima Mann saw Loretta making several visits to that new Chinese restaurant, House of Eight Earthly Delights and Bait and Tackle Shop. Come to find out, she is dating the identical twin brothers and owners, Long and Harry Wang. The Wang brothers were completely taken by the way Loretta could swallow both their egg rolls without choking on the special sauce they had just whipped up by hand in the kitchen for her.
