So, the "hip flick." I think I get the dynamics but I'm not sure, is it a flick like when you playfully bump a friend with your hips? Gonna learn soon & getting a head start.

C to C requires a spine like a rubber band. Prefer the sweep.

Its a well described video and well demonstrated but I dont know anyone that does a C to C roll. As the other gentleman said a sweep roll ( some call it a screw roll I believe) is the way to go unless you are a nimble 24 y.o. girl like the one in the video. Its hard to generate the righting motion for most of us after the blade is already out at a 90.

I got my flat water roll down to like 99% everytime. Went to my first real heavy class III+ drop/hole and it was a series of 3 nasty holes and the last one got me... I just could not pull it off... just one attempt that was surely sloppy and I was sure I was going to bash some rocks so I pulled out. Before that I got pulled back into a hydraulic and flipped; was so freaked I didn't even bother holding onto the paddled. Any tips for getting that roll when your really in some rough stuff getting beat down? One of these resulted in a pretty unpleasant swim... I caught a rope luckily... thank you kayaker breathern.

Practice rolling in deep swiftwater, then gentle eddy lines, then stronger eddy lines, then find a slower section of water with rocks, roll and let the current push you into the rocks and roll, then find some pretty friendly holes and intentionally flip right before them and practice rolling up, then go to progressively worse holes and try.
