Many FPV drone pilots started on the EMAX TinyHawk series - and for good reason - they are easy to learn, fun to fly, and very easy to fix if you crash. After a couple of years, the TinyHawk 2 is now being updated by the brand new TinyHawk 3. EMAX has taken the best parts of the TinyHawk 2 and made some improvements with the TinyHawk 3. They have also bundled everything you need to start flying FPV into a single kit that comes ready to fly (aka RTF). Check out what we learned in a few weeks of flying the TinyHawk 3 both indoors and out.

    i didn’t realize they had released a third version of the TinyHawk 3. This looks like a solid FPV drone for beginners, and for indoor flyers during the winter months. Great review Kelly, you really explain everything so well, that even FPV newbies like me can understand it. And thanks to Kris for helping out with this video.

    I agree with you about focusing on 1s because most tiny hawks are doing inside spec racing. It was nice to be able to use the extra power of the 2s battery when flying outside. It's beneficial for pulling out of dives with less risk of bottoming out. I also think that the goggles would be more than use able like you said with a simple antenna swop. A good patch antenna like a Menace Bandicoot for penetration in the house.

    Just getting into FPV, coming from DJI gps based drones, almost all of them except the matrice line.…. I’m finding fpv more exciting. I recently got the DJI FPV combo and it’s made me realize I better start smaller after trying the simulator lol Picked up this TH3 kit and must say the biggest selling point to me personally is the ease of getting started and the detachable screen! As I progress and already having the DJI V2 Goggles, I’ll be able to utilize the screen in the future vs having an enclosed cheap kit goggle setup would go by the wayside as I adapt to other drones that can utilize my DJI FPV Goggles. Thanks for sharing!

    Your video is amazingly detailed. It is the best review PERIOD! I bought the Tinyhawk 3 RTF kit and I have the monitor on the controller as I wear glasses (I'm a senior). I have had the kit for a two weeks now and I am flying around the ground floor of the house. Not fast or pretty but still doing laps. I can say EMAX knocked it out of the park with this beginner kit. Today for the first time I recorded some flights. My problem is I do not know how to playback the DVR video. I read the manuals and searched the web and found nothing about video play using the monitor. I did attach the Micro SD card to my PC and watched them there. Please point me to a source that explains how to watch the videos on the Tinyhawk 3 monitor. Thanks for your great channel.

    Thank you for your kind comment. I will try to check on DVR payback later this week. In the mean time, the manual says this: "Select the "DVR" option in the menu, briefly press B to enter the "DVR" mode. At this time, press B or C to select the video, press R to play, B to adjust the forward playback speed, and C to adjust the reverse playback speed." Let me know if that works for you.

    I am a total newbie to the drone hobby and thanks to your review I bought the Tinyhawk 3 kit. The drone comes with the VTX set to 25mW. I noticed that you any most reviewers fly at 200mW. I tried changing the VTX from 25 to 200 in the monitor menu. After saving the change on the monitor menu, the VTX was still at 25mW. How exactly can I get this done? Do I use Betaflight or are there other steps required when using the monitor menu?

  • @readysetdrone

    @readysetdrone

    2 жыл бұрын

    You may need to unlock the VTX. I believe I pressed and held down the VTX button (which is near the micro USB port) while plugging in a battery -- continue to hold down the button for about 10 seconds. You might need 3 hands to do this. After this, try changing your settings again. Be sure to save and reboot. I've had mixed results unlocking these smaller analog quads, so I hope you are able to get it done without any problems. Emax customer support is always there to help if you need them. They've been really helpful in the past whenever I've had issues.

    I have not tried it, but I found this in the manual. "Remove the screw and open the back cover of the E8 Transmitter housing. There is a toggle switch on the left side of the board. Set the toggle switch to “L” (left-hand throttle mode) or “R” (right-hand throttle mode), and swap the positions of the levers (the 6Pin cable connecting the joystick to the mainboard does not need to change positions)."

    What is the estimated range for these without losing visual in the goggles? Out from about 100yards +/-, I frequently lose video on the goggles and I panic hoping the picture comes back. Is that normal? Is there anything I can do to extend the range? Is the image effected by power lines at all?

  • @readysetdrone

    @readysetdrone

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you go to the googles comparison section of this video at 2:42, you can see the general distance on screen in feet and meters that I was flying. The range is greatly improved with better goggles. I tried my custom antennas on the Emax goggles with minimal improvement to the signal, but my fatshark goggles and antennas made a world of difference, as you will see. I'm not sure if power lines will interfere with the signal. I'm inclined to say that they won't, since the video feed is being transmitted in the 5.8 gigahertz range, whereas power lines are in the 50 to 60 Hertz range. I actually have flown between power lines and didn't notice any video breakup.

  • @readysetdrone

    @readysetdrone

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'm sure it's possible, but if you update the control link, you probably won't get much more range because of the limited video range with these goggles and antennas. As we mentioned in this video, when using a different (more expensive) set of goggles and antennas, the video range was greatly improved.

  • @readysetdrone

    You can if you want, but in my testing (not shown in the video) using different antennas didn't make a huge difference. A more expensive set of goggles with a patch antenna and a circular polarized antenna would be better. If you want to try upgrading the antennas, this omni antenna www.getfpv.com/lumenier-axii-2-5-8ghz-antenna-rhcp-2-pcs.html ... And this patch antenna www.getfpv.com/lumenier-axii-patch-antenna-rhcp.html would be good upgrades.

  • @SunriseWaterMedia

    @SunriseWaterMedia

    It should come pre-bound, but if not, the two inner trim buttons, when held down, will put the radio into bind mode. The button near the micro USB port seems like it's the bind button. If that doesn't help, Emax's customer support is really good. Send them an email and they should get it sorted out for you.
