Tiny Trout Worms for Big Bluegill

Спорт

In this 13 Mar 24 excursion to a MDC public pond in W Central Missouri, tiny three inch plastic trout worms enticed numerous bluegill and, of course, bass. The "back story" is that these worms were sent to me by a You Tube friend (Northwest Angler) in the mid-late 2000s. In the "old days" we didn't have what we call Micro Finesse - anything - and I certainly didn't have anywhere to fish for trout or salmon. So, I've had these little worms hibernating for nearly two decades! Unfortunately my friend Northwest Angler no longer has a You Tube channel.
Recently I've caught some trout at a stocked pond in Sedalia (on dough bait) so next time I go there I'll try a couple of these worms.
Rudie Tootie appears and provides his opinions and advice to the delight of his fans hahaha.
Enjoy the show!

Ha, thanks Bill. Those little worms aged wonderfully and were good as new. Unfortunately, once they are all gone that's all she wrote. Of course I have a backup plan and my Bear Paws friend is making some garden worms in the same red/strawberry and black tail. There's several places where these little worms should be good this spring. Hope all's well on your end. Hi to Mike, Don

Thanks, Dennis. I'm a big fan of panfishing and was happy to see that some of the BGs are starting to wake up from the cold winter water. We are having warmer air temperatures hereabouts so it won't be too long before the spring frenzy is in full swing. Now all we need is some more rain!! Have a great week, Don

Thank you, Virgillio, for the nice comments and glad you liked the show. Bluegill are the "gateway fish" that most people have fun catching as children and grow up enjoying the sport of angling. They get quite big in a lot of southern states. Around here a 9" bg is very nice. Best wishes, Don

What a healthy bluegill population! We stocked ours with bluegill and hybrid bluegill at the tail end of summer last year. Have caught maybe 5 so far.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Mysteeds. There's a couple of other places I like to fish that have really nice hybrid gills. Those rascals really fight great, and I hope you have a lot of fun in your pond. A nice thing about panfishing is routinely catching lots of bass, too. Running into a big bass every now and then really makes the excitement go through the roof. Best wishes, Don

Thanks a lot, Jack; much appreciated. I forgot to ask you about the size of the panfish in your pond - sorry about that. Although this body of water isn't all that remote, it is a pain to fish from the bank and the hydrilla becomes problematic since it has had a low water level for several years. However, there's apparently a good food supply for the BG population. Competing with lots of smaller bass can't be too good for them. I've had great luck with Bear Paws garden worms for panfish; these little guys were an inch shorter at 3". Spring is almost here, yay! Best wishes, Don

Thanks for stopping by, David; much appreciated. I get a lot of enjoyment catching panfish in the late winter/early spring....when the dang wind isn't blowing 25+ mph 😊😊 There's always a bass bonus because the Bs love tiny lures, too. All the best, Don

Thanks a lot, Big L; much appreciated. Hope all's well on your end as well. The windy weather conditions of late have kept me, and my new kayak, off larger bodies of water..... but don't be surprised to see familiar looking jig heads hanging from those Mr. Bs jaws this season 😊👍. All the best, Don

Thanks MadMatt. Hope you have a wonderful spring season. The grass here has already had to be mowed and the weeds need to be sprayed.... so fishing will have to wait till the chores are done 😮😅. Have a wonderful week, Don

@Winkiedoodles thank you!! Oh my gosh..that is crazy. I'm out in Illinois. We got from having 1 or 2 60-70 degree days..to having it feel like 16 degrees out and high of 30. It's been freezing. And the wind has been insane! Get them chores done and get back out there! Take care buddy👍

Thanks for stopping.by, lead5s, much appreciated. I think you are 100% correct about dropping the worm in beds in the shallows. Those were mostly big males up in there; likely clearing spots for the females to spawn. Have a wonderful week, Don
