Tiny House Cooking - Ham, Potato, Green Bean Soup

Soup. Probably the easiest meal to make in a multitude of variations. And here's another one I like a lot! Find my favorite kitchen items here - amzn.to/2Wyygb4
***************************************************************
If you are new to my channel and Fy Nyth (Welsh for "My Nest") in general, welcome! I'm Ariel. I live off grid (as in no physical connection to public utilities) in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming. I've been living this lifestyle for over four years now and love it! What will you find if you follow my channel and watch my videos?
Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. I split my own wood for heat, carry my water by hand, and attempt to grow as much of my own food as I can between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from my mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.
I live in a somewhat harsh and cold climate, but enjoy the stunning sceanery and wildlife that I am surrounded by on a daily basis. You'll also see videos of of the nature and wildlife around my home. If you are interested in my photography or purchasing a photo, I'd love if you follow that over at Facebook.com/ArielCelestePhotography or ArielCelestePhotography.zenfolio.com!
For a bit of my background, as a child, I was fortunate enough to be able to spend much of my free time exploring and playing in the woods. Little has changed now that I'm older I suppose. I moved to a place with a bigger woods and still enjoy spending my time outside gardening, hiking, exploring, and photographing the natural world around me. As the eldest of seven children who grew up in a homeschooling family, I had the opportunity, not always appreciated at the time, to learn to do quite a bit of work. I've enjoyed a wide range of jobs, everything from greenhouses and flower arranging to wilderness therapy with teens, to milking cows. Mostly, I enjoy doing the kinds of things that I think provide a real service or value to others. Some of my other hobbies include backpacking, hosting people, cooking, preserving food, anything to do with nutrition, reading, journalling, and sitting around a fire and talking to my close friends.

Hi Ariel, I have been enjoying your videos. Every tome I watch you I an amazed how much you resemble my sister in law. She is a little older than you are, but when she was your age you could pass for twins. She also is not as adventurous as you. The family joke is that she won't leave her zip code! Your cooking looks very tasty.

its official - this is a hit - and has been requested that i make it again - i did make it this morning and used bacon end bits and frizzled them first to start the fat reducing down on them then just went for it as per your recipe - i even had home made chicken bone broth in the freezer - used 1 and have 1 left in there so have to make more now - it is sooooooooooooooooo yummy and with a slice of home made bread a perfect end to a very busy day with the first of spring activity starting in the vege garden

Hi Ariel, I can't believe you're still getting snow above you in the mountains. Is that normal, or are you too having a nice low temperature this year? As I've said I'm in Los Angeles, and we've had such a wonderfully cool spring, that we haven't had in many years. I like your recipe, and will give it a try. Would've loved to see the finish product 😋 I like to make northern beans, with a ham hock, and onions in the crock pot... Just bought my beans, so I think I'll make it this weekend. You mentioned that you cook for other people, I like to share also. I especially like to bake desserts, and always share with my neighbors. Have a wonderful day dear, and enjoy your beautiful soup Tfs 🌺

Love your cooking videos but you lost me with the "turkey ham"---ugh! I know; it's your recipe, but the idea of pseudo-ham just sends chills up and down my back. I can see 'tarians using tofu, of all things, but nothing substitutes for the texture and flavor or honest to goodness baked ham. I'm not a pork enthusiast, but real ham does get my vote. Come to think of it---nobody asked my opinion!

  • @FyNyth

;) I know lots of people probably like that. I just never liked pork personally, so the thought of eating it just kind of grosses me out. I just don't like the taste. But you can certainly make this with real pig ham too!
